  1. This is correct. What he seems to be doing is listing his net cash flows instead of his net income. To the extent that he has a limited amount of cash to invest, this is something he should also be keeping track of. For example if he has put a net total of $20K into his existing comic inventory, he needs to take this into account against his available working capital. Even if every purchase will eventually lead to positive net income (in theory) there will be a point where he is going to have to set a limit / budget for his purchases until his sales catch up with the buying or the money will have to come from somewhere (food, shelter, entertainment) that was not originally intended for the comic business. It should be expected that cash outflows will initially exceed cash inflows but there will come a point that the selling needs to keep up with the buying. Also, time spent buying, inspecting, returning, and pricing comics bought takes away time and effort that could be used to increase sales.
  2. In Maggie's defense she was poisoned in a botched attempt to kill her. i could see why she took a hard line with Gregory.
  3. I thought my posts went poof but they moved the discussion to the moderation area.
  4. We are talking about restoration. Are you implying we need to ask if every book is restored prior to purchase? I am saying that it is the responsibility of any buyer to ask about the product they are buying. If restoration is important to a buyer then of course they should ask and not assume. As a seller it is simply not possible for me to know what is important to every buyer. I understand resto may be important to the majority....maybe. How do I deal with that? I offer no questions asked returns. I do tend to ask a couple questions. At some point both the seller and the buyer need to have the confidence that the transaction is complete. 6 months even seems extreme to me but PayPal is enforcing that. Try flipping the -script. If a buyer buys a restored book and it is graded universal label by CGC then can the seller ask for the book back? How do you know if a buyer cares if a book has been restored? Given that a restored book is worth about a third or less in value of an un-restored book I would have to think that we are talking about a very small population that has no opinion on the matter. Please let us know what percentage of your buyers have received a restored book from you (without you disclosing in), noticed the restoration, and let you know that they were happy with the transaction. How can there be any trust between buyers and sellers if a buyer has to ask if a book has been restored before a seller feels inclined to share that information?
  5. For me this is one of the differences between a good seller and a bad seller but not probation list enforceable. Isn't the probation list there to protect boardies from bad sellers?
  6. In most cases, after a year goes by I would say that the buyer is simply out of luck. They have had more than enough time to look the book over. If the buyer said the book was in near mint condition and is only a very fine condition, the buyer has had the book in hand for enough time to see that there are spine ticks, bent corners, etc. If the difference is less noticeable and CGC says that the book is a 9.2 or even a 9.0 I think we can all agree that this OK as buying raw books is not an exact science and the buyer is taking an implied risk that the grade will not be exact, especially if they needed CGC to tell them the grade was off. Restoration (married cover, color touch, trimming, etc.) is not something that is always easy to detect and not something that a buyer will necessarily notice even if they took extreme care and devoted a lot of time to each book purchased. When you throw in a history of past dealings that turned out well, the buyer had even more reason to trust the seller and assume that the books were as described. Whether the seller knows about the restoration or not they have advertised something that is clearly not even close in value to what they represented to the buyer. If the restoration was subtle enough that it was necessary for a third party to evaluate the book I do not see how a 60 day return window is acceptable in such cases (does a buyer have to fast track all books in case one of them happens to be restored?). Throw in the fact that this is a buyer who they had past dealing with I find it hard to accept that they can simply say sorry Charlie instead of attempting to do something to make it right. Reading and not responding to the PMs until called out sound very shady as well, Knowingly advertising restored books without disclosing the restoration is not something that could or would be tolerated on these boards or anywhere else. If the seller did not know about the restoration the expectation should be for them to apologize to the buyer and take a return of the book for a refund (unless a partial refund can be agreed upon). Hiding behind a return policy (one week, one month, 60 days, etc.) in such cases is not something I find acceptable. Perhaps five years or even two years of time gets the seller off the hook but in this case I think the seller goes on the list.
  7. Just sold mine yesterday. Guess I missed the teaser.
  8. +1 1,350 slabs! That little guy in your post was me pricing the books and getting everything ready to launch the thread. The same little guy was me again when the mods killed the initial thread. This time I will be prepared and with any luck the thread will be epic.
  9. Down but not out. The original Dr Chaos Modern Sales thread was deleted by mods but will be back within the next few days bigger and better than ever. One slab has been removed for quality control reasons and five other slabs sold leaving 1,345 modern slabs (I think about a dozen could be considered copper age). A note to the admins and mods, if there is anything you do not like about my thread, please PM me to let me know and I will fix it. No need to delete things willy nilly.
  10. He uhm must have left his Paypal in his other set of pants. At this point it seems that he has no intention of paying you and you have been nothing but patient in giving him more opportunities than he deserves. Thumbs down vote for the buyer from me.
  11. All sellers who have had threads here learn that other posters can't resist posting into a sales thread with their two cents bumping some of the listings from page 2 to page 3 or 4. I woke up early on Sunday and thought, hey while no one is around I will take those first few pages for myself to avoid that but it seems that my creativity was not rewarded. Not sure I follow this. Doesn't someone posting a comment in your sales thread bump the thread to the head of the line? I don't see how it can cause it to drop to a lower page. In any event, count me among those who prefer the one book with price per post. That way I don't have to navigate back to the first post to figure out what the price is. Or scroll through a long line of books all in the same post. What I meant was that if you have a bunch of books and it takes about three pages (of your thread) to post them all, having other posters chime in while you are posting those books spreads them out over additional pages making it harder for the buyers to find those books when looking through the thread.
  12. Stay tuned for Son of the Dr Chaos Modern Thread Returns the Sequel. There are some online auctions this week so I am not sure if I will repost tonight or a few day from now. Either way the new thread will be bigger and better.
  13. Thanks! I don't think the thread was deleted. When I click the hyperlink in my signature I get a screen that says access denied. I think if a mod or administrator is kind enough to help me that I can get the data back. Otherwise I did it once, I can do it again.
  14. Just some of it. I can recreate the thread but it was looking epic when I finally went to bed last night. Thanks again for your purchase.
  15. , I am just hoping the mods will help me get some of the data from the first page back. I made changes in the thread that are not backed up on my computer (who knew the thread was going poof?).

  17. Adding hyperlinks was part of the plan. I was just using the space holders in an attempt to avoid clutter. In retrospect it seems to have been a mistake.
  18. I was hoping to avoid clutter and fill in that information at the start of the thread instead of putting my buyers through an Easter Egg hunt but I can see where the moderators could have taken issue.
  19. If I remember correctly you were posting first pages and pages of placeholders, a few of these are sometimes tolerated if the books are coming fast behind, but usually threads are removed if nothing is actually posted for sale (with grades and prices). My advice is to start a new thread, check the rules, and then just post one book after another, hard and fast, which is how people generally like it around here... ...well that's at least how I like it. I was up until 2:30AM last night posting an index with a list of all of the books for sale. I still had place holders for the individual books that were to be listed with pictures so that they could be viewed easily without posts from others cluttering up that portion of the thread. It is a large job but aside from business hours (I have a day job) I had planned to put a lot of effort into filling in the blanks. If you haven't deleted the thread I would appreciate it if you would put it back up and give me the opportunity to finish it.
  20. Hello, My rather large sales thread seems to have disappeared. I did not have pictures up yet but all of the books are slabbed and I posted rules for the thread. Please let me know if there was a problem with the thread and what I can do to fix it.
