  1. NMSU just hired a new president and chancellor, designating them as separate positions for the first time. Total combined salaries are $950k/year. The former pres/chancellor was earning $385k/year. This in the setting of declining to hire new faculty nor provide raises that were funded/approved by state legislature.
  2. Sorry to hear about this Ted. Hope they catch em.
  3. I'm very upset that I had to look at those incredible books.
  4. Look at the data on administration growth. Bloated administrative budgets/hiring seems to be a primary driver of increasing costs. To a degree this has to do with heavy handed governmental regulation, but a lot of it is useless bureaucracy.
  5. Advocates of high taxes in the US don't realize what high taxes get you in other countries. Here we just get screwed for paying them.
  6. 56 is common enough to exclude it from the intended scenario though. In this situation the definition of rare was clarified and can be determined.
  7. GPA can't apply to this situation. For unique or near unique items, you either pay the asking or don't get the book. I assume you are happier with the books than you are frustrated with the price paid?
  8. I love the interiors on early Fox books. There was really no formula and you can see they we're just testing the waters to see what would work.
  9. Mitch Mehdy's Action 1 comes to mind. I think Beerbohm claims the first sale over $2k which was the SF Tec 27 IIRC, but don't quote me on that. You could torture yourself digging through his posts.
  10. It's not named after the shop. It's named after the city's nickname. Just like River City, Crescent City, etc. The Broncos play in Mile High stadium.
  11. I don't mind at all. It currently off the wall as I had to make room for something else. It will be rehung elsewhere.
  12. Standard rules apply. PayPal, check, MO. No bad actors. I don't recall the last time a WWII Okajima was offered, they are not common at all and prized. The top tier would obviously be an anti-Japanese cover, but those are even rarer. This one is a German cover, but has a brutally racist story toward the Japanese (see pictures). Given the back story on this pedigree, that puts this particular book well into the top tier of desirability, and makes for a pretty remarkable piece of history. As such, I'm asking a high price, but not far out of line from what other camp coded books have been fetching; however none of the recent sales had quite the WWII or anti-Japanese ties. Asking $2000 shipped world wide. Book grades at an attractive VG. It looks much nicer, but has some bug damage along the back cover spine. There's also a piece out of the margin of a page that looks production related. Paper it typical white for the collection.
  13. Salidas have different stamps by era. Church books lose the D & C codes with time.
  14. I have the same issue. I can see the prices in my bid history, but any links are denied permission.
  15. I want a Kaluta Shadow page because I know the page I want and where it is and I've seen it and it's spectacular.
  16. I just checked, I haven't won anything on Clink since 1/17. I think I've won something in every HA auction over that time frame.
  17. The ability to track books? Back cover scans? Batch bidding? etc...
  18. Now that you mention it and I think about it, I have largely done the same. I still go through the Clink auctions, but my buying with them has dropped pretty dramatically. I can't remember the last auction I won with them. Plus dragging it out so long is pretty painful with my schedule. I simply don't have time to sit through all of that. I hardly even look at their BIN listings either since they changed the click from the front page. It's silly, but little things like that can really impact how much you look at a website, and out of sight, out of mind. CC still has some appeal to me, but they're a distant 2nd to HA.
  19. Clink's UI is terrible. The usability of the site, particularly for auctions, is awful. The database needs to be cleared of books that sold 2 years ago, and the pedigree search is so cluttered with "CVA exceptional" and "one of 3 top graded" nonsense that it's just about useless. But there's no incentive for them to drop the coin to fix it, and we all keep buying, so why change.
  20. I think his style has evolved, but not necessarily improved. I really like his 70s work. Shadow wasn't consistently his best stuff, but some of it is incredible. His 1970s and 1980s work is the sweet spot for me. I'd love to have a Shadow page, a nice DC horror page or cover, or a Conan the King cover (yeah, good luck!). I'd say he's been about as consistent as one could be over a 40 year stretch.
