  1. Maybe I missed it posted somewhere else on the boards, but CGC posted a quick video of the Wolverine 50th signing on IG:

If it wasn't posted to the boards, it's a little disappointing - I love seeing the artists actively signing books, but don't use much social media, so totally missed this.  You'd think their own (very active) message boards would be the first stop for fun marketing videos like this (shrug)

So Frankie's came back from bankruptcy?

Tbh I have no idea. On a few occasions there'll be somebody in the auction giving the host a rough time about it, but whatever happened was well before I knew anything about them. The sense I get is some possibly shady stuff went on a while back, but I have only had good WhatNot experiences with them, so no complaints here (shrug)

  3. I've both bought books and won give aways from Trinity Comics, Frankies Comics, Unknown Comics & Artgerm Collectibles.

One Stop Comic Shop has some really fun shows (less frequent, but some really interesting stuff - I think one show he did was all 9.9s?)

Frankies & Unknown do multiple daily shows - mostly with their exclusives, but with the occasional gem, it can get repetitive, but is fun to have on in the background. I haven't had many bad experiences  - the app can be glitchy, but in general it's been good fun and the books are generally high quality (at least from the above). My achilles heel is that if you win a giveaway, the shipping is free, so it's hard not to pick up another book or two...

I've watched some other sellers - Bry's Comics and Mike Mayhew Studio are fun but generally out of my league $ wise - I also can't stand the mystery boxes - they seem way overpriced and when the hosts show the books, very rarely do I feel like I miss out on anything.

I will say that the platform is pretty unique & offers an opportunity for the hosts to do some really interesting things, especially during conventions. Trinity recently did a show at C2E2 (? maybe it was megacon?) where they were running books but also had E.M. Gist sitting next to them, doing live remarks and answering questions during the show. Another show they had one of their artists call in from Italy and answer questions & generally hang out with the people there.

Artgerm Collectibles did a show at a signing - all of the artists from the collective were in a hotel room with piles of books, but the majority of the show was users asking Artgerm random questions as he signed books. The end of the show was watching Artgerm do a remark on 10ft banner - it was pretty fun.

Curious to hear about other peoples experiences - I tend to only follow / watch a handful of sellers as some of the other shows I've seen are just really, really boring.

This is a selectable service and ONLY needs to be added if there is an additional unverified sig already on the book.

Thx @MattM CS - I know everyone's excited about the new JSA service, but the Authentication seems like it should just be an add on to Grading, and not listed as tied to Grading under 'Primary Services'  (especially since the SS books are already 'authenticated')

my 2c, but seems confusing to have those shoved together at the top level

  5. @MattM CS I just was looking at the submission form for an upcoming in house signing, but once the signature option is selected, the only options are 'Authentication and Grading' and 'Pressing' - this implies that the in-house signing is going to be authenticated by JSA - why would anyone elect to have JSA authentication if it's an in-house witnessed signing? Would any book submitted get the black JSA bar? or is that only if there's an additional existing sig on the book?

Seems like the options should be Grading & Pressing with the add-on of JSA authentication rather than present the options as Authentication and Grading... or at least start with 'Grading' so it doesn't seem like Authentication is required...

Autographed comics will no longer be encapsulated with the CGC Qualified green label or CGC Signature Series Qualified green/yellow label. Instead, comics with not genuine or unverifiable autographs will be encapsulated with the CGC Universal blue label

That is a huge change!  thanks for the clarification @MattM CS

Alternatively, if it is determined that the sketch will not negatively impact the grade of the comic... [and] ... If the autograph is not genuine, the comic will receive the CGC Universal blue label.

This makes zero sense to me @MattM CS - so if there's an un-authenticated signature and a sketch on the cover it would get a blue label? Why wouldn't it get a green qualified label?

I read this as:  say I submit a book with my best impression of a Stan Lee signature and a really good drawing of Wolverine, done by me.

If I don't select the JSA authentication, I'm going to get a green label 'Name written in pen'  - but if I pay the $25 for JSA authentication, and it fails (which hopefully it would), I'd get a blue label? ???

  8. @MattM CS are the new yellow/black labels going to work similarly to the current system with custom labels?

I have several non-custom labels with the 'CGC Sig Series' centered. All of the custom labels have the 'CGC Sig Series' left aligned to make room for the custom label image.  If you get a custom label with the JSA Authentication, will that label copy also be left justified (and then the custom label appears above the black header? seems like it could get pretty crowded...)

    Thx!

Teenage mutant Ninja turtles number one first run. 8.0 off-white, is that considered good or average for a modern book?

Are you looking to compare it to all modern books? (that might be tricky) or just copies of the same book? You can see the number of books per grade via the CGC Census - here it is for TMNT #1 1st print:

    https://www.cgccomics.com/census/grades_standard.asp?ComicID=5000360

There are 150 total graded 8.0s.

But yeah - for that book, I'd be super happy with an 8.0 - congrats!
