  1. Individual books are not quite the same as building a run of 1-300, the chase, the effort, etc. I agree with you on specific books, especially graded, that are easy to replace.
  2. Well.....the print run on 240 is a lot lower than 170....it's about half. I was chatting with a buddy yesterday, I told him there's no way Spawn sales on those low print run non keys will maintain those prices longterm. I've thought about listing my near complete run at auction knowing it will be the highest price I will ever get, but I don't want to sell them.
  3. You agreed to buy sight unseen before knowing what any of the boxes were?
  4. Give Anthony a call and see if they can remove the pieces! lol. This is still a very nice book. For a collector if they get it at a price they're happy with and don't plan on slabbing it, then that's all that matters.
  5. Asking what someone paid is considered poor form here, like asking how much someone makes.
  6. It's stories like these (and 90% of the people that buy comics at estate auctions) it makes me believe there are a LOT of non comic buyers out there! Outstanding grab, amazing out of those three random books that TEC book would be there....
  7. I was at a sell my stuff sale years back that advertised comics ($1 a piece). They only let a few people in at a time and the first guy (looked like a junker) just made an offer of $100 for all - there had to be about 6-8 longs. The offer was rejected, and then I went to work grabbing a ton of great mess for $1, ASM, VOB 1st print - grabbed about 60 books and the cute girl working there gave me another discount (didn't even ask lol) when I checked out! Some people really are lazy!
  8. Great score indeed! And from a church sale, you're probably going to hell now, lol.
  9. This current speculation/flipper era does have a certain air of laziness to it, doesn't it?
  10. Haven't we all learned our lessons on not to buy top-tier-raw keys-in-bad-lighting-with-sketchy-backstories?
  11. Wow, I might have been interested in this had I been able to see it....
  12. Here's an actual max sold win! I usually avoid it since it's not worth my time, but I got this box super cheap! I knew the seller running the auction on behalf of the owner, we chatted real estate and he was kind enough to let me leave my business cards on the table. I already had the green box on the right, so I'm happy to add this to my comic room....
  13. Wouldn't that be the ultimate loophole, eh? CGC just assigns whatever grade PGX gave the book as is.
  14. I posted more details a few pages back....in short I came in contact with the seller of books in his possession since the 60s/70s. I'm working with the seller and will post details as I go.
  15. They are beautiful, but these will not be sold cheap. Once I get the full details together, I will be soliciting bids from dealers/companies, and then I will find out who offers what.
  16. Update. I've chatted with the seller of that lot, I'm thinking next week we'll sit down and submit the AF 15 to CGC. He's still looking to maximize the sale as a lot, and we will more than likely send these other books off to CGC, but for now this is the plan. As of right now, consigning/working with the owners is probably for the best for me, and I'm hoping the trust we develop leverages into my other career (I work in real estate). As promised, these are the top books! There's other books not pictured, solid DD1, big runs of ASM (including a decent 50), big Xmen run with a very nice 5 and 12, TTA run (very nice 44). It's crazy that AF15 has been sitting in an old bag and board for all these years!
  17. Hi guys, the grades are in and I'll have the books in a few days. 9.6! 9.6! on #17, and a 9.2 on Hulk 102. Couldn't be any happier!
  18. Sorry I did leave one offer, my kidney for the AF15 - but he declined.
  19. I haven't submitted an offer yet; I left the seller with two proposals, a straight out purchase on the lot minus the AF15, and I would maximize his value to sell the book separately; a consignment arrangement that I would take on his behalf. I know I wouldn't be able to submit a fair offer for everything including the AF15, so this is why we're going down these paths. I'll send more pics later, suffice to say that the AF15 represents a significant percentage of the value of the collection. Despite all their lower grades, these books have fantastic colors - some of the best looking 2.5s-3.5s I've ever seen!
  20. I told the owner we really need to get these in Mylar...'what's that?'.
  21. Saw a pretty fantastic collection of books today, as close to original owner as I've ever seen (the seller was either 1st or second owner and has had these books for 50-55 years). Here's the top book, some real gems in there other than this. What's most amazing about these books, is that for their grades they have the best colors I've ever seen!
