Nice grab. I found a copy of that book in a collection years back - and it was beat to $$%$. It had been lying sideways along a book, I sold it for about $20 many years back.

Isn't this exactly our point, this book is entirely speculative driven? You've done a lot of shows, have you ever in your life had someone say "I'm looking for Godzilla 1 for my collection"? I've never heard anyone say they collect Godzilla comics....the argument that Godzilla is relatively undervalued because other books have gone up is not a defense for justifying its price. Is a 9.6 a safe bet to buy the book? Absolutely. Will there be long-term organic demand for the comic? Probably not.

I think that same logic was applied to buying penny tech stocks during the dot com crash.

I'm mostly in declutter mode these days as I continue to selloff what I have.....but over the last couple weeks I made a couple local purchases including two Spawn homage covers that I need for my Spawn run which is all NM-NM+. And this New 52 run I picked up real cheap - I wanted this set for my Batman collection, but I wasn't going to pay going rate for #1 (I would have just settled for trades to read the story), but I got a near complete set for about cover price. I have the batman trades that I borrowed from the libary on my list of books to read, with covid the library doesn't charge late fees right now, so I don't have to worry about returning them!

The Crossgen stuff and a lot of publishers like them actually have very good reads, and some of them have very rare variant covers. A lot of the titles you already mentioned: Halloween, Chaos comics....also a lot of the B-C list bad girl comics have niche but collectible markets. I think you should pull them out by title and go through them, 1500 comics isn't a ton! Sight unseen it was a no lose buy....a few years back I bought 11 shorts for about $500 because it had a good run of Spawn. The rest of the stuff was easy to sell at $50 a short - low risk venture. You could easily do this with this lot, dump some of the longs in the $40-50 range. Also look out for newsstands of all the publishers. I actually probably prefer this type of collection buy over any other because it's not much work at all, little to no monetary risk, and you'll educate yourself on a ton of titles that you never knew of for the next time. EG Maybe there's a bunch of Avatar comics in there with value that you never heard of before.

I sold my set of 11 years back because I felt the prices then were high enough I could part with them. Yes, some of them are insanely rare, but very low demand and I wonder how much of it speculative-driven? There was a time long ago when no one cared about these.....ask RMA.....

Not just in their 20s....I know of a guy in his 30s that became a major flipper/dealer that's paying me on a payment plan in for a silver age grail in dribs and drabs because he's 'bad with money'. I know of two big, long-time dealers that funnel their comic buying mostly on credit - they are very well known and have been doing it for several decades each, one in particular has nothing but comics to show for it. I learned a long time ago from working in hotels, that you cannot judge a person's socioeconomic status from what they wear or the car they drive.....

It's called the K economy for a reason; some industries and jobs have actually benefitted from COVID. And then, for those that haven't suffered, there are many people with a lot more discretionary money than before! I own a cottage in the Quebec mountains, I've had it rented all winter long when I've never had any inquiries before about winter rentals. People are spending money in different ways now, and I think this is also why there's a lot of new money coming into the hobby - not just stimulus money, people that got into comics from sitting a home bored one day. And of course, interest rates are so ridiculously cheap the cost of borrowing has made discretionary spending that much more open.....

I sold an AF15 last month locally, that never made its way to GPA.....there are always outliers.

Sounds like you're trying to get a cheap price from a seller - ain't gonna happen. LOL

FFS!! I would lose my mess on the seller.....way to go ultra cheap on 20k sale, not too mention the risk of damage.
