  1. Great advice, thanks. Were do we sign up for your paid newsletter?
  2. You're a person_having_a_hard_time_understanding_my_point if you think otherwise. Boomer.
  3. Yes, water stains can be missed at times. To the OP This was an error on the dealer's part (MCS???), although it can be easy to miss. I wouldn't completely abandon raw books and grades, when I was selling books at shows I never put a grade on it. If someone was interested I would assign a grade then and there along with my rationale, the buyer could agree or disagree but we would have a discussion on it. If you're looking online, I would suggest you try this approach. Don't be afraid of asking questions and for more pics/scans.....
  4. I love that old school ruler, can't remember the last time I saw one of those.
  5. There's also a ton of books that never should have been slabbed in the first case - negative EV value over selling raw. So pressing those books would only add to more losses...
  6. Comics shouldn't be looked at as investments, there's no guarantee the market and individual books can't crumble in value (and has happened hundreds of times in this industry). If you really want to buy a comic long-term to hold and preserve, nothing beats high quality Mylar and backing boards.
  7. I just noticed another thing, The Maxx is giving the finger to whomever pays 40k for this book!
  8. I can't quite put my finger on it, something just doesn't seem right, maybe it's the asking price higher than the yellow label AF15!
  9. Just saw a blue and red 1/2 pop up on ebay, is the seller here? I almost hit the floor when I saw the asking price!
  10. In my batch received on May 13th, CCS charged me for the book that I submitted for restoration removal (Bone #1 sticker). I'm curious to see how long this takes, then how long it takes to get pressed, then graded. In that same submission, there are two other tiers of books with pressing and restoration. No update on my WK through that was received a week ago, the TAT for walkthrough on pressing is 10 days so hopefully it's less than that given how pricey this comic is.
  11. Outstanding buy and great story! I'm guessing the price stickers on the cover were appraised by the auctioneer? I love that Batman 49!!
  12. I don't think any of them were top grade, definitely not the keys. If they were all top grade keys then the amount of 49k the seller quoted would have been way off, which would go into my theory that it was not just key books (I gave an example above). If they were just keys and in good condition, then yes a dealer would go higher than 50%, but the problem is the seller gave limited information. It's hard to tell how receptive one of these type of guys are with people looking to view it, but if he had pure gold then he would want as many people as possible to view it and produce a detailed list! The fact he didn't, goes to show you he had something to conceal...
  13. How do you think the story will change? The amount will go down to $400, or the shop owner showed up at Karl's house with a gun?
  14. I'm gonna start a thread, "LCS charged me $10 for Turok 1!! DISCUSS" And then after several pages of discussion it will come to light this was in the early 90s and the shop is now long closed.
  15. And who knows with the OP, exactly? Maybe he did get insulting offers, LCS are widely regarded as a very poor place to sell a collection. But go look at this posts in the CGC submission thread, he keeps going off about his wait times when it's been explained to him that CCS is operating at a very different scale than CGC. If he has difficulty with this, I wonder how he is to deal with in person.
  16. If this was October 2008 we are right in the middle of the financial crisis! I was very actively trading equities back then, and remember a pile of banks collapsing left and right.
  17. The best part of that story was Chuck stressing out to get financing...I wonder how that went down at the bank, "look, don't ask me any other questions (can't let this guy know of this amazing comic deal), but let's just say I'm good for it! What do I need to do to get that 20k?!"
  18. I don't think you're way off saying 50% of FMV. The problem is if these are low grade and you're already priced-in near the top, and then a buyer sees some of the books are in the Fair/Poor range it can be a difficult discussion once the seller has a dollar price in his head. Even if you stress from the begging someone needs to see and inspect them carefully, that might not be enough....
  19. I didn't quote very well, but if Karl is anything like this in person as he is online (when he doesn't seem to understand the difference in TATs for CCS vs CGC) I wonder how easy he is to deal with.
  20. Posted April 23 "Great. Pile over the top of my books even though I paid triple and waiting 4 months. This system is seriously broken" " Posted April 23 Has anyone ever canceled service? I have been complaining for months. I want to cancel. 6 months is too long"
  21. Great books and story - I come from a family of twins. I'm just curious if these are all the books you sent in the CGC grading thread where you're person_without_enough_empathying about the service and TATS!
  22. He sounds like a lazy sack of ! Zero chance he takes that approach....I think this guy will be trying to cart them around for 1-3 years then finally accept a lower offer than what he received initially. Sadly, I see this all the time.
  23. Sounds like your friend took this guy's side when you were offering free advice.....I can see why the owner is unemployed, the most laziest of people around - I want a high valuation, will not do the most minimum amount of work and any free advice will be replied with cynicism! I don't know if you're paraphrasing or not, but if the seller rams off a sentence like: "first appearance Iron Man, Hulk, X-Men" and then followed shortly after "Harley quinn" etc, I seriously doubt he actually has those first appearances. I looked at a collection of "200 keys" that took about two years to sell locally. In it, there were some obvious keys like 1st ghost rider, and a pile of mid to lower mid tier keys, but about a third of it were hot modern #1 books that might at best get $3-5. I feel like this is probably what this seller has. Anytime someone sends me a list like this, I don't even give a value or number at all! That way no one can come back to you, I always reply with, I have to see everything that's there. And if the person can't be bothered to setup a time to meet or send you a full list then em!
