  1. 8.0, hard to tell from those pics are those stains on the back?
  2. Thinking of subbing this to CGC, low demand book but you just don't ever see them in high grade.
  3. Secret cure for Coronavirus, and a case of Coronas for good measure!
  4. That's a pretty elaborate plan for you to get a new cell phone!
  5. I really hope the police involvement has a positive outcome; but even at the best of times and the best police investigations there isn't a lot they can (or will) do. I strongly recommend you contact all the large online comic companies that buy collections. I would not be surprised if the thieves contacted a company like 'sellmycomicbooks' (just using them as an example) looking to quickly get rid of the stolen collection. Not every thief is sophisticated enough to launder stolen slabs by cracking them out of their case and sending them off to CGC.
  6. There was a local theft here last year out of a collector's locker in his condo building. The building had great security, but I suppose those locker facilities are still generally open to anyone in the building...those books ended up on Facebook, I highly recommend you spend a lot of time looking on Facebook (as well as the other sites). You'd be amazed that these thiefs were dumb enough to post the books right from their public profile...
  7. Just look at the postage on the envelope when it arrives? If it cost him what he requested then he didn't overcharge, if he did give negative feedback and be done with it.
  8. CGC does not seem to be an essential service at all; they're using a very large general definition 'interact with customers electronically', to justify a service that is definitely not crucial for their own operating benefit. Then again, Florida hasn't been doing very much to curb COVID-19 which is why they have so many reported cases.
  9. Concerned about your comics, or catching coronavirus?
  10. Exactly! And all those selfish Covidiots contributed to the spread of the disease! I can't believe CGC is running right now, Coronvirus sticks on cardboard for days and how many people do you think are touching these packages? I don't know what kind of measures CGC is taking to protect their employees but the last thing they want right now are these people getting seriously sick. I'm holding off for awhile sending them any books....
  11. Holy cripes, look at those slabs!! I guess you don't have cats to worry about knocking those slabs over, lol.
  12. A couple years ago I was looking at a 'shelving unit for comics' which turned out from a card/general hobbyist dealer that I later ended up setting up beside at the monthly card and comic show. I had some laughs because this shelving unit looked more like one of those antique trunks for clothes you might find 100 years ago and it was clearly not big enough for comics but it was a neat item. After a few shows of being setup beside him, I learned how much of a character George was; often frazzled, and a bit of a nut, but fun to be around and would talk your ear off! Last year, there was an announcement before the show opened among the dealers present that George had passed away and we were having a moment of silence! We were stunned, we saw the guy a month before and he looked fine and healthy? It was a bit of a surreal moment for me, but I thought if this is what he enjoyed doing later in life then at least he was happy.... Moving along, I have a story I posted somewhere else on the boards that I will post here. It really has a great ending and will lighten the mood. 2017 Several months ago, I was looking to grab the last of my comic stuff I had stored at my mom's place - a box full of mylar and half-backs that accompanied a collection of all CGC bronze/silver books (my best collection buy!). The box was stored in the basement, in an area where her adopted cat was known to spray! Crash course on cat spraying, male cats (even this one who was fixed) spray locations to mark their scent, this is not urinating, it's liquid that shoots out of their anal glands! The first time I saw this cat spraying a neighbor's deck I thought 'haha, that's so cute, look at his butt dance.....hey, wait a minute!" And then when he started spraying indoors it was time for him to become an outdoor cat, cat spray absolutely reeks and you cannot get that smell out of anything. ***If you want some chuckles, type lion/tiger cat sprays and see some of the videos of people at zoos being sprayed*** At this point, you're probably thinking, let me guess, he sprayed the box? Correct! The box was tossed, but on top of the box were some loose Mylites I had to toss as well. And just underneath the cat spray, oh so close to being destroyed was this scrap of paper.....
  13. As long as the cash doesn't come in the form of bills and coins; you might as well replace the president with the grim reaper for all the germs on those things.
  14. So someone said they would buy the books but not offer you a price? That seems odd....or if they did offer a price that you think is fair why not just accept and close the deal?
  15. If you are caught coughing on the book you have to give them the book, then go to jail.
  16. That's a great shelf, but can you install umbrellas or a tin roof so Frank and Logan don't get soaked?
  17. Yes we've been talking about this for pages and pages, CCS service at all-times worst, CGC at all-times best.....buyer beware. Edit: service based on TATs.
  18. In a similar story I was at an auction where they had dozens of copper age books (nothing bagged/boarded, so condition was no better than a VF+) and was rummaging through them to see if there were any filler books I could use or minor keys. I believe they were a buck or two a piece. The auctioneer thought he was doing me the favor because I was the only buyer there, and was irritated I was looking through them.. meanwhile an elderly lady (no less than 80) was beside me and asked what these (the huge pile of comics in front of us because to her I guess they would all be equally-valued) were worth? The auctioneer's sidekick was also beside me on the other side and looked for my response, 'ugh, not of these are really worth much' - which was a political way of saying, don't buy these comics unless you have some kids in the family that might want them to read.
  19. Good call. Often estate auctions books go high as you tend to get a lot of non collectors bidding up books because they are not able to grade, nor can they spot material damages/restoration. Sometimes you can flip books but a lot of the time it would be a net loss factoring in those additional taxes and buyer premiums...
  20. I'm not sure you would enjoy the 8 hours I spent shovelling the roof last winter....this cottage is in the Laurentians, not far from Mont Tremblant. Here's some blue jays looking for breakfast chow!
