  1. As a general rule, Never pick up, hold, or place (handle) a book by the spine side. As A GOLDEN RULE, NEVER handle a Stack of books by the spine. This is a sure-fire way to get those pesky, grade-dropping stresses and color breaks. All it takes is a single light pinch or squeeze and DINK!

I know it's almost impossible to think of it every time, but train your brain. And ask your LCS retailer to please handle the books by any side but the spine.

Also, carry a rigid brief tote or similar to tuck the books away in so there's no chance for disaster.

    Carry on.

I created the thread on the 15th of April.  If I didn't bump it, the thread would have been on the 4th or 5th page.

NOTE: this is why I posted a resignation...so Mike wouldn't be waiting for my grades (I thought it would be a courtesy). But then I kept grading, poorly, and Mike was nice enough to let me continue, I'm guessing out of pity. It's all good, I aint mad.

    I did as well lol

I've seen Kramer first of "I'm out" I wonder how they think they'll get better if only a couple of rounds every 3 months, but lol at first I thought they were joking or just in disgust, which is normal. Hopefully they can see the benefit of immediate results! I too hung out in spare a grade forum, but it was hard to wait to see it posted if I was close by cgc results. I set certain times to offer a grade, but too, I also try to keep an eye on "grade in" posts in the forum. Where I can estimate a grade and see results lol I laugh at that too because I used to think it cheating myself by not helping the other boardie in the 1st place, but many helpful things on the boards!

I got out because it became painfully apparent that my grading parameters are widely disparate from CGC's , and I'm not changing so this exercise for me is a waste of time and posting grades anywhere is giving people bunk information. It is of no practical use and there is no way I'm winning any contest, rendering it an exercise in futility. So I got out. Call me Cosmo...

I've no idea if any restoration has been done. I'm new at this and couldn't even point out (what would be, to seasoned collectors) obvious color touch on a book. I got this book for free and I have no clue of its history. Could there be a glued piece here?

Possibly. The pic of the top right rear corner shows a tear or heavy crease. The pic of the spine (stapled edge) way to the left shows what appears to be the start of a spine  split, a vertical separation of the front and rear covers right where they meet at the bend. The pic of the opened front cover, at the top, shows the front cover sticking straight up instead of curling over like the bottom. The pic of the opened rear cover appears to show the very tops of the pages sticking together, pulling the inside page out of alignment on the left. No matter what, do not try to separate the pages! They are fine as is. I only asked  so you could get accurate info.

Looks 5.0 or even 5.5 to me. But I also wondered whether there's a piece of the cover out at the top of the spine. Wouldn't affect my offered grade though.

***HYPOTHETICALLY*** But what if it were glued? What if the cover spine was partially glued to the first wrap?

I look at it as even if i am out of the competition and had a bad round it definitely helps you with your grading process and to improve your skills.

Sure. It just sucks bleep holes to be handed your hind quarters on a platter when you thought you had some idea of what you were doing. It's a real Homer Simpson moment.
