  1. I wish I could. Is it mean of me to be thankful you can't
  2. attaboy Gator! Those "int" comics are always nice ones I'm not 100%, but might be the most I've ever spent on a centaur, but so worth it
  3. indeed...one of the 2 amf's I've never owned..2.0 or 8.5, all good to me!
  4. one of the few comics I have been able to add to my collection recently.... very happy....
  5. I admittedly don't get all that excited these days as I don't get to add very many comics to my personal collection....but today, I did:
  6. there certainly could be 20K....I'm just reporting what every major dealer I've spoken to seem to think (myself included)... Joe V told me , at one point, sparkle city had, what must have been 500 copies of af15 in their inventory (must have been in the 70's?)... so 10% could be out there...but keep in mind, collecting really surged around 1965 or so, so there was a small window where comics might have been lost/disposed of at a higher rate.... but, who knows...about the only conclusion that can be drawn is that there are a "lot" of af15's in the wild....but how many, we will never know with any real confidence...
  7. 20K feels high, at least to me, and to every dealer I've spoken too... most everyone seems to generally be in agreement that 7500-10K "feels" right....and by feels, it's based on years of selling and buying and depth of customer bases, and conventions etc... to address what is in the market, it makes perfect sense that the majority for sale would be slabbed...from both a seller and buyer perspective... as I mentioned in an earlier post, less than 10 years ago, dealers like Metro and Graham cracker and Joe V, etc etc had rows of raw af15's to every slabbed for sale...its about the opposite today, though there are still raws found at every show... as cgc has become more associated in the higher end market (how many times has someone offered a raw af15 for sale, and the first words out of most everyone's mouth is, "that should be cgc'd", or "you should slab that".... it makes sense....it offers a level of protection for buyer and seller against restoration, grade, value, etc... now, many of the raws that are sold, are sold to dealers, because in general, most are able to spot resto, grade, etc, and dealers have a presence whether at a con, or a brick and mortar store, etc...and many times, these dealers have an established relationship of some degree with the seller .... and every year we see 50 or 70 or however many "new" slabs enter the market....that's a pace that will likely continue at current rate, and maybe increase 5-10 years down the road, and many longer time collectors finally decide to "cash out"... it seems pretty straight forward and logical to me, but then again I'm emersed in this hobby 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year....
  8. Nice copy Bill. Never knew Super had such great covers! gator blue
  9. he's on fire! You are clearly not referencing my hoops game ahh, but it would apply to my last game ...."money"...
  10. I agree that everyone is entitled to their opinion.... bottom line is, some opinions are wrong but in seriousness (which means Im joking again), if we took all the "guesses" and put them on a bell curve, then, as statistical probability dictates, and eliminated the values/guess that fall more than even one standard deviation from the mean, I think we will conclude that "my" answer is the correct one (hehe)
  11. You have at least one. Telling you you're wrong and that there are at least 10k copies or more out there. We have not had any National Dealer make any posts yet in this thread. Dale Roberts and Greg Reece are "national" dealers and I've averaged over 20 AF15 purchases and sales a year across the nation, even if I don't fit the "national" dealer mantra Yes I forgot Greg did answer, didn't see Dale's though. I did ask some of bigger National Dealers and their responses probably wouldn't be agreeable as you would think. But you can ask them as well. Who did you ask? My guess is the Rick acquires and sells more big books than a lot of them in a given year....... Wrong guess then. outside of metro, did any dealer you talk to sell (over past 18 months or so) 3 action 1s 2 tec 27's 2 superman 1 1 batman 1 1 captain America 1 24 copies of af15 oops. only sold 17 copies...(bought 24)...my bad 8 copies of All Star 8 30 copies of ST 110 96 copies of hulk 181 1 copy of action 7 2 copies of tec 31 and those are just the "highlights" if not, I would say his guess (at least for last year) is very correct Impressive sales figures Gator. I'm still bummed we couldn't work out a deal on that low grade Tec 27. By the way, Greg mentioned he's only come up on one raw, 3.0-ish AF 15 in the last year. How many of those 24 copies that you acquired were raw? -J. I believe only 5-7 were "new" raw copies...others were obtained already graded
  12. I watched that fan's rant on youtube... still laughing... I feel for you, but you could be like me, a Vikings fan

(thumbs u I'm just having fun, hopefully you are too by my own admission I will never be able to duplicate those sales, but for a little while, it was fun!
  14. Pfff ! "Real" dealers move that in a week. I will admit I will likely never be able to repeat, but I doubt outside of metro, any national dealer sold more big books than little ole me

I've talked to 4, all seem to agree 10K is not unrealistic...to be honest, I don't think they put a lot of thought into the answer as they didn't really seem to care and I did 12 shows across the nation (from Cal to NY to Fl and in between) last year and did well over 7 figures in sales (and that was with NY stinking)...Ive decided to count myself as a national dealer... hehe

  18. At this point I am just arguing against the extreme (30k copies and up) and because I like the challenge. We are close enough on the overall numbers (or at least some of us agree on 5k-10k or so) and that is good enough for me. It has been a pleasure debating this (with most of you). My brain hurts, I am going to go play Hyrule Warriors or build some Legos. I would agree that 30K seems "too many".... and I agree with J that most are lower grade (large percentage of raw copies)... anyone know how many copies pgx has graded (just curious)....
  19. Keeping with the theme of conjecture: There are lots of things made from all eras that were popular with a less than 10% survival rate. Cards, toys, books, etc - very little survives (Americans are kinda wasteful). Particularly when we are talking about something that kids were responsible for the care of. They may have loved that book, but most kids are notoriously bad at keeping things and even worse at keeping them in good condition. We are talking about a time before prevelant bags, boards and known storage. They would have read, reread, spilled on and eventually lost many many copies to mothers and fathers ambivalent of the value (monetary or otherwise). Anyway, different line of thinking: if this data is true it leads me to believe that the overwhelming majority are not interested in selling. While I can believe it is a coveted book, it is hard to believe so many people couldn't or wouldn't want to capitalize on a minimum of a $4,000ish payday... Ignoring the absolute number of be census, why wouldn't it's numbers grow each year at least closer to the price increase growth curve? The more it became expensive, the higher likelihood that people would start to sell right? Again, this is definitely conjecture, but if greater than 90% of owners are pure collectors not interested in selling (to buy more books, to buy a car, to pay for kids/grandkids college, to take a trip of a lifetime, etc) - shouldn't more people on here own a copy? This is a very focused group with many experienced collectors that lived through all of this and experienced it all first hand. Wouldn't a lot own a copy? Maybe they do and aren't sharing, but That seems like a high number. It's all relative. Old time collectors are just that...collectors. Most have what they need. What doesn't work in this equation is applying ones own standards (ie you would sell for a 4k profit) to those that have. Today's cgc collecting era is surprisingly diff from the last collecting era. In the next 5-10 years I believe many of these collection will be sold/liquidated and then, and unfortunately not till then, will we get a better feel for extant copies. I get it, difficult to speculate to people's motivations. What about this point then: Shouldn't the AF 15 club show the raw list outpace the slabbed list by far and away? I get it, this is sponsored by the CGC. But isnt this place first and foremost a "Collector's" society right? +1 That's another good point. It seems folks would rather place more weight on the unverifiable and un-quantified than what is readily apparent and documented before them. To each his own I suppose. -J. Probably because that "readily apparent and documented data" has issues of its own. However, even if assume that number is 100% fact, it still only tells you how many slabbed copies are in existence. I understand wanting to be able to quantify something based on hard data but the numbers on the CGC census can be flawed data. ooooo........ I have an idea....let's play scrabble with just one block GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u ...... not everyone posts their books on the internet.... Sure, but now you are saying that people who own stabbed copies are much more predisposed to do so? Why would you think that? At some point constantly refuting any and all data is becoming excessive. This is a club, a selection of collectors and the vast majority of books in the club are slabbed. If raw books were the vast majority, the numbers should at least be close even if people with slabs are predisposed to sharing in the internet. A sample of data representing be population has to be relevant at somepoint. I suspect most folks that find these boards do so via the cgc website link. Since most raw collectors are either older (and not as tech savy ) or not interested in slabbing (or Internet socializing) means that they won't find this collector society and subsequently won't post their copies. and many folks choose not to post...many....
