  1. That book has traded hands a few times since that auction at considerably higher prices than it sold for @ Heritage. Since they were private sales, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say how much it sold for so I will leave that decision to others. I can say the book has sold in the 6fig + range very recently Wasnt this particular copy the Tec27 1.5 universal which was resubbed and received a considerable bump (Matts pressing service? ). the book was not pressed higher, but the book did get resubbed and got a higher grade... that said, it was bid on with that potential in mind...just shows you that in less than a year, the value has litterally doubled... the 3.0 I sold for $110K back in July of 2008, the current owner has turned down a considerably higher offer, because he knows he can never replace the copy at even that price... now, I have said it before, these record unrestored prices have not transalated over onto most other restored keys (cap 1, bat 1, supes 1, etc)...but, empirical evidence would suggest that tec 27 and action 1, are the 2 exceptions (thumbs u On the 1.5 the label noted that the spine was completely split - was the spine taped and resubbed - or was it simply resubbed? Did it get a 2.0/2.5/3.0?? a super small amount of tape was added to secure the covers and it resubbed at a 2.5 (thumbs u

  3. I personally don't think you'll ever see a Detective 27 sell publicly for $50k again. (I bought the Tec 27 7.0 from Heritage and already have had multiple opportunities to sell at $70k+ but haven't done so because I don't think I'll be able to replace it at a similar price down the road.) My Why didn't these buyers bid on the heritage auction? it's only a few months ago. The market has been changing rapidly lately. Filter81's evidence above suggests that I think (thumbs u not only that, but books slip through the cracks, new buyers enter the hobby every day, financial positions change from month to month, etc, etc...there are a myriad of reasons... the same could be said why did the buyers of the million dollar comics not buy them when they were $300K... actually, kind of a silly question, since the answer is obvious

  5. You could be absolutely right. I don't think its possible to say for sure. My guess is that PLODs will continue to rise on these two books (but at a slower pace than unrestored copies) But thats just my opinion and until proven otherwise the scenario you mention is definitely possible also. Personally, I wouldn't mind if the scenario you mentioned does play out that way. If I had a chance to buy a second restored Tec 27 in similar shape at $50k I'd do it in a heartbeat. The reasons I think PLOD Action 1/ Tec 27s have already jumped in value are 1) The sale Rick mentioned at $75k for a 4.5 PLOD Tec 27 2) The 6.0 slight Tec 27 where the owner turned down $125k. 3) The fact that I've had multiple interested buyers at $70k+ on that 7.0 Mod copy even though I'm not trying to sell it. (I brought the book to SDCC to use it as a "draw" to ultimately help sell other books. But this is a book I bought for my personal collection.) In SD I had one of the long-time, well-respected dealers there tell me that if he were selling the book today he'd price it at $150,000. And several other dealers throw out numbers north of $100k 4) 2-3 years ago an Action 1 in EP 6.5 was a $55k book. Earlier this year one sold for $90k and I know that book could/would resell for at least $110k+ today. 5) If even low grade (2.0/2.5) unrestored copies are selling for $150k-$200k, I think mid to high grade restored copies "should" sell for more than $50k. And I think there would probably be a few buyers at $75k-$100k that will be in the market for a nice restored copy that can't afford $200k for an unrestored. These are basically the data points I'm using to form my opinion that $75k-$100k is the new entry point for mid grade or higher restored Tec 27s. But until one actually comes to market and sells at auction its all speculation. If that Action 1 court copy in the November Heritage auction is auctioned off without a reserve this time I know I'll be watching with quite a bit of interest since I think that will be a good gauge of how the restored market is currently looking on these two books! I can say that I have sold more restored Golden age books in the past 10 years than most. (Its kind of been my niche I guess) And up until a few years ago, I always considered $50k to be the ceiling that just about no restored book would cross. (And as a result this is the ceiling I set for myself anytime I looked at buying a high end restored book no matter what the book was) But in the last few years we've seen several Action 1/Tec 27 sales in the $75k-$100k+ range and even a Batman 1 PLOD (albiet a slight P / pedigree copy) sell for $60k. So I personally think that barrier has been broken. Similar to the way the $300k barrier was broken recently on unrestored books. Whether or not Action 1 / Tec 27 will eventually see a short term price correction, what the price will be on the next restored (or even unrestored) Tec 27 etc I think is still very much open to debate. Anyway sorry for the essay. One of these days I'll figure out how to say what I'm trying to say using less words adam saved me from having to say about the same thing (thumbs u
  6. Wasnt it an 8.5 Ext. that went for almost 70K? I didnt notice a 4.5 going for that? the 4.5 was a private sale about 2 months ago...yes, last year my former 8.5 went for 66 and change, and that trimmed copy went for 55 or so...and 8 years ago, a blue 4.0 went for $48K (and recently they are 300Kish books)... I am already looking back on them as "incredible bargains" , and we will continue to look back and say "wish I had of...." But Rick - these sales: the trimmed 7.0, your former 8.5 + the 4.5 ext as well as the 4.0 universal; they are hardly the only copies sold and bought?. Surely there have been a number of other copies which have changes hands during the timeperiode mentioned here. Alone Heritage havent they sold quite a few Tec27-PLODs over the years? I just dont understand why exactly these sales mentioned here should be taken as "incredible bargains". Havent "many" plods gone for the current price range over the years? I know of no other copies to have sold in the past 6 months doesn't mean there weren't any, I just haven't heard of them... on books like this, what happened 10 years ago or even 1 year ago is generally not "relevant" as current market trends would dictate those past sales prices are just that.. "past"
  7. I had an inkling to go after the Planet 4...but 4K was just too much for me (thumbs u
  8. Fuelman on fire with fuel Okay Gator - know any cross-eyed collectors - hmm, and them moustachios...could it be...

  10. the likeness is a bit off, but I am sure ricky and billy don't mind I know. You get Ricky on the left right away because of his height, but Billy without glasses on the right is a tougher call. That is just plain mean. Funny. But mean GAtor started it. who?...me

  15. it sold for $25. . tell your friend I'll give him 10x that for his ..that's right, offer him a cool $250 for me He laughed when I said I'd take it for $3,000 :: that acutally might be close to gatorfmv, depending, of course...if he is laughing, his choice (thumbs u fixed that is there any other?
  16. I sold a 3.0 almost 2 years ago for $110,000... my guess is that this book was restored more than 10 years ago, back when it was "beneficial" to restore a 3.0 to a 7.0 (or VF, etc)... now, while I do think there was a bargain to be had at the last heritage auction, since then a 4.5 ext tec 27 sold for almost 70K, and I know that a 6.0 slight (non reversable) had an offer of 125K turned down... the days of 50K plods' are gone, I suspect... just like I believe 90-100 K is the entry point on virtually any restored action 1, I feel that 75-80K is the entry point on virtually any restored tec 27 these days...am I right only time and a few sales will tell (thumbs u
