  1. Here are a few Ajax issues...posted a few of these before, but figured I would post them together...
  2. Here she is again. This is probably already on his list, but she always brightens one's day. The art inside is pretty good, too!
  3. Always enjoy the fantastic showcases you present! Is this that Alice "Dimples" Kelly? EDIT: Looks like Sqeggs already ID'd her!
  4. Happy U.S. Independence Day! Post Your Comics about the FOURTH of JULY, FLAGS, FREEDOM, and FIREWORKS...and any comics about the American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence, and anything celebrating the birth of the United States and freedom! It's a great Summer holiday! Here is a little one to get started, about a little piece of paper that changed the world...
  5. The early history of comic books is still being explored. Some really significant milestones are not yet appreciated as such. This presents some opportunities for the collector... There is a lot of misinfo out there about early comic book history. For example... Comic books were already well-established as an entertainment medium. Some of the early Platinum books were incredibly successful and probably distributed in far larger numbers than anyone suspects. For example, check out some of the Foxy Grandpa books. The internet has revealed that these are relatively common, meaning many were sold at the time. Some say they are only comic strip reprints, but we have to consider the media environment at the time. For readers of these comic books, these may have been the first time they saw a series of color comics collected in one place.
  6. Heck of a local comic store where a guy can pick up one of the highest graded copies of a very hot GA comic...
  7. Ditto. These are really great and it's a treat to see them in one place. Thanks for posting them!
  8. Great Simon + Kirby covers! Thanks for posting them. One thing surprising is how static the figures are on many of these - straight upright. Compare them to the Elias Harvey covers. The couple singing in the cover above look positively dynamic since they are leaning slightly.
  9. In Superior romance comics, the reader sees women looking wistfully at the reader, in lingerie, breaking out of the panels on the page, lying on a bed...sometimes all at once. Here are a few issues in the run that Mr. B didn't post...
  10. Great idea for a thread, Vaillant! Please consider adding this thread to your index: Military Comics by Actual Service Members This features comic books about the service produced by men and women who actually served in the military. Most of the comics in the thread are from World War II. Some valuable history from the perspective of those who were there. Thanks!
  11. Writer/Artist/Producer/Animator Rob Feldman is running a Kickstarter campaign to fund production of his new comic coloring adventure book featuring his great character CYKO KO. Check out his campaign here. Cyko KO hearkens back to the Golden Age of Saturday morning cartoons, with colorful characters, goofy villains, and most of all...FUN! Rob also pioneered animated webtoons for CYKO KO on Line Webtoons. Rob has chosen a unique hybrid format for what is really a graphic novel. It will be printed in a clear black and white style, encouraging young readers to color it. Some pages also feature activities. And at the bottom of those pages, a suggested physical challenge is presented for a friend to do while the reader does the activity. For example - "Try to do 20 pushups before your friend completes the activity!" So in addition to being interactive and having a fun story, it encourages young people and their friends and families to get up and get some physical activity! Rob is working with Alterna Press to create and produce an all-ages that will provide hours of entertainment and activities! Rob also created the fun and scary character Dr. Shroud, Vampire Killer! I've worked with Rob on several projects and he is a great guy and a creator that is dedicated to making fun and rewarding content. Here's hoping you will check out the campaign and consider offering your support. The world needs more comic books that are FUN!
  12. Everett Raymond Kintsler started out in comics in the 1940s and 1950s, and then moved on up to paint official presidential portraits. A.B. Frost did some very early comics and then became well-known for his oil paintings of sports, hunting, and nature. Jim Woodring and Bill/William Wray both started out doing comics and are now fine arteests as well.
  13. There are no dates of publication on them. However, the one cover does mention a 1951 date...
  14. Such a great series of books! And your #1 is a stellar example! Congratulations on your focus and determination! It is great to see such innocent and joyful covers. I can't think of a single comic book title currently being sold that entices young readers with such great reading.
