Pure speculation on my part but I would venture that the owner was not the original submitter. Likely an inexperienced but deep-pocketed new collector who picked up this grail and put it proudly on display. A few months of daily indirect sunlight can cause damage like this. Since IH181 is a grail for many collectors, it's a book that you see faded pretty often. I've attached another example below.
The unaffected blue CGC label is not a dead giveaway. As I stated before, colors fade at different rates with reds/oranges being most susceptible. Blues and blacks aren't as affected. You can see this in action on the IH181 cover itself. The blues in Wolverine's costume aren't as affected compared to the red/orange background.
This book is interesting as it looks nearly perfect except for the cover fade. Is it possible that this book was a 9.0+ and the fade brought it down to 5.0?

It's interesting. Seems like the majority of the drops are occurring in 70s, 80s, and 90s books. Some 60s books have dropped as well, but early Marvel's are still holding strong. At least that's what I am seeing when I value my collection. I think it's because the supply of the 70s and 80s books is much higher. Just my 2 cents.

Yep, I use Marvel Unlimited too. Love it. If you do not care about reading new issues when they hit the stands you can read everything Marvel offers just 6 months after it goes on sale.
I think it is only 3 months now.

Like I mentioned earlier. Hold off until the $1 to $2 deal comes around again. It's affordable at that point. Same cost as one high priced physical copy.
I've tried Unlimited a few times, I wish they had more obscure stuff. But, I don't like the idea of having to resubscribe all the time.
I didnt know they go on sale for that cheap! That is a good deal!

It is a good deal. I just can't justify buying each Masterwork due to Marvel Unlimited as all the books are on there. I sold my Hardcover Masterworks after I joined Marvel Umlimited about 5 years ago.

Some of the physical copies are in the stratosphere now. So it's a great deal.

How much do digital Masterworks cost?

I use Marvel Unlimited. For $70 a year, I have access to the majority of the Marvel Library. I have already read Fantastic Four 1 - 250. I use my Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ and the books look fantastic. For DCs, I use DC Universe Infinite. It was fun reading many early Flash issues.

you'd have to negotiate with them...but I'd guess heritage is not going to work off a lower commission for non keys, I wouldn't imagine...
okay..not planning on selling anything at the moment but was curious how it works. Thanks for the help!

yes...but not on an $80 book...but on an key, sure...
Gothcha....what about on a collection of say 100 books of keys, non keys, etc.? Will they limit it to the keys or do it on all due to the better books being part of it?

Correct. And in most cases, if you are selling a nice af15 and are paying more than 10-12.5% with heritage, you don’t understand the art of negotiating
Can the 20% buyers premium be negotiated as well? Say a book sells for $80 and with buyers premium the buyer actually pay $96. As a seller would I get the $80 less another 20% sellers commission or the full $80? And can that buyers premium also be negoitated? Thanks!

Here's an update. So I now have 34 of the top 50 books, as I unfortunately sold JiM #85 to help fund my purchase of AF #15. I used strike-through to indicate books that I have picked up this year. My new most wanted list would now be AC #247, SC #8, and SC #13.
I picked up Showcase 4, 8, 13, and 14 in the past year. None of them were easy to find in the grade I wanted and at a fair price. Mine are SC 4 in 5.5, 8 in 6.5, 13 in 7.5, and 14 in 6.5. All tough books. Even Flash 105 which I picked up in 7.0 was not easy. Good luck in your search!
