Heritage putting a 5.5, 6.5, 7.0, and 7.5 all in the same auction might be one of the stupidest things an auction company could have done.   They should have put the 5.5 and 7.0 in one auction and the 6.5 and 7.5 in a later one.

If I was the consignor of any of those books I would be severely P.O.'d.

I agree..just too many at once and a 5.0 closing today as well.

I've stopped submitting to CGC, and have already gotten VERY wary about buying slabs with serial numbers beginning with 3 or 4.  Now I find out that my Economy orders from August and September of last year (that have fallen off the dashboard but are still just "Scheduled") won't get the label detail expected.  Well ok, but it's just more reinforcement not to come back.

What is the issue with slabs starting with serial numbers 3 or 4?

  3. I also attended Megacon this past Friday.  I had a great time.  I wasn't there Saturday to experience the internet problem Bob mentioned above.  I strongly agree about setting up all the comic book dealers in one area.  It was annoying having to try and find some of them.

Too bad next year's show will be the same weekend as another major show, I will see what dealers will be at Megacon and decide if I will return next year.  Normally, I would definitely be going.

Overall though, I had a great time and picked up some very nice books.

I doubt the majority of people who submit know who the head grader of either company is. I have no idea who the head grader at CGC is, or who it has been for about a decade. I knew Steve was President at CBGS but not the head grader.

When Steve is no longer employed by their competitor, I hope he makes a return to these boards.

That is interesting...I know the head grader at CBCS was Steve but not who it is at CGC.

Noticed that this CGC 3.0 graded copy of AF 15 just sold for $37,200 at HA which is probably a sign that the prices are starting to pause and consolidate for now after HA just finished having 4 straight sales in this exact same grade condition in the low to high $40K's from November 2021 through to February 2022:  hm

No. It is a cents copy that was imported to the UK and distributed by Thorpe & Porter (That's their 9d price stamp on the cover). To qualify for 'UK Price Variant' designation, a book has to be part of the original US print run, and have a printed UK price.

You've just answered your own question there, I think, Jeffrey :)

CGC have confirmed that it does not affect the grade - they treat it as part of the natural production and distribution process. Value will be determined by the individual - some won't like it, some will, and some won't care.

Thanks for getting back to me.  I certainly did not get a discount for the stamp when I bought the book a few months ago.  I would prefer the book without the stamp but it did not deter me from buying it.

Hi Jeffrey - traditionally, printed pence variants went for way below their cents counterparts, sometimes as little as half. Evidence suggests that gap is massively shrinking.  Stamped comics are more tricky as they are obviously not UK variants, but US originals.  I would be amazed if CGC did not down-value a comic with an ink stamp on the cover, and also amazed if a US bidder was willing to pay top dollar when he could presumably get one without the stamp and more easily. UK bidders are less turned off by the stamps (some actively like them), so you'd be more likely to get top dollar here.

That said, there is a mad amount of investment buying and comic speculation going on at the moment, so while CGC might down-value or downgrade a comic for the stamp, it could still go for above book value if it's a nice copy and there are few of them about.  So the answer is that it would probably not be valued at £1k, but none of us would be in the least bit surprised to see it sell for that or more.

I asked because I own this book and when I biught it, there wasn't a discount due to the stamp.
