  1. Well, rather predictably, the collector bug has bit again, so I ran back out to the antique mall to pick up a couple more Megos. He also has a really sharp complete Batgirl as well as a less sharp Aquaman and Catwoman (missing her gloves), but they're priced out of my range of interest. Can pick those up cheaper on eBay. But these two hit the sweet spot, and I figured "what the hell" and picked up a bag of random costumes. Figured I could sell those.
  2. put Captain America's gloves on him. problem solved Good idea, I don't think Cap is supposed to have those gloves anyways!
  3. I've been doing some reading up on Megos since I picked these up, and have discovered that my Falcon has Planet of the Apes hands. Now that I know this, I can't unsee it, and I find it a bit disturbing.
  4. Sweet! These keepers or for sale? Well, that's the eternal question, isn't it? At this moment they are keepers. But knowing me, it's only a matter of time before I decide there's something else I want more, and off to eBay they go! But as of this moment i'm really digging them, so I think I'll probably hang on to them, and in fact the urge to go back and buy the rest is growing!
  5. That's Swamp Thing 9, Damn, poser DC fans. I didn't see the point in correcting him, the sentiment was still the same. What I admire is that Fake didn't fake it by verifying through an image search. He went with his gut which is braver than many here! 1 and 9 do resemble each other at the bottom of the art. Well, I appreciate the admiration, but it should go to 1Cool for going with his gut. Since it's my scan of my comic on my screensaver, I knew which issue it was!

  7. Ha, yeah, I have a few of my favorite covers loaded up as my screen saver. When I scan books for the boards or ebay or whatever, I'll throw my favorites into the folder, along with scans of my original art, so it cycles through the day. A nice reminder of what I did with the money I'm earning at this desk while my souls ebbs away... After doing a little research on the Megos, I think I did pretty well! I believe Cap's star is a repro, and it's possible that the sticker on his shield is a repro (though I think the shield itself is original), and I believe the sticker on Iron Man's logo is a repro, because I think the original was just a button? But otherwise I think this is all original stuff, discounting the fact that they stuck red gloves on Cap. Pretty pleased! Unfortunately I can now feel the fever starting to grip me...I may need more of these!
  8. Made a run to a local Antique Toy Mall on my lunch break, and came away with these! They had several DC Megos as well, but I passed on those as nowadays you can get the really super reproductions from Figure Toys Company. I may break down and go back to grab them, though.
  9. I pick them up whenever I find them at a reasonable or cheap price. Not terribly easy sets to put together anymore. Bolland WW covers as well.
  10. Thanks man, and thanks to everyone else for the kind words! That #2 9.8 is a bear to track down. I believe only 4 in the census, and I'm aware of only one copy that has been available for sale in the last couple of years, which I completely missed out on. I got the hangers on eBay, after reading about them on these boards, actually! They can either be used as an easel type display stand, or you can expand them and use them as hangers. They seem a little flimsy at first blush, but they get the job done. I think this is who I bought them from Comic Book Display Hanger stand thing
  11. Very exciting day for me! Thanks to Eric/Iceman, I finally, after years of searching, have this: Which means that this set is finally, at long last, complete!
  12. That's a nice one too. For years you could buy a set of Sally Forth books from Bud Plant for just a few bucks, including this one. I think Los Bros had a cover in there as well (though it may have just been Xaime?) Yet another one I should have held onto!
  13. ...Still pissed that I passed on a nice copy of this when it came out. At the time, $30 was more than I was willing to spend on any variant, and still is actually. I sold my raw NM+ copy for $25. So I feel your pain. Same here! I used to have a more or less complete AH collection, as well as a long run of LoSH books. So when this one came out, the store sold it to me at cover price, like it was any other issue. A few years later I decided to sell all of my floppies, and I was ecstatic to have gotten so much for it! Who knew?
  14. I keep hearing this....I know I have several of these somewhere. I was one of those suckers buying 3 of every number 1 at that time. Still waiting for Jemm Son Of Saturn t catch fire! And why is Camelot 3000 not collectible. What a great series that was. I have not even seen it before. My guess is that it's needs some pumpin' (er, or pimpin') Covers & interiors?! Is the story any good? with some of the terrible selections made for omnibus editions, its surprising this hasent been put out as one yet I think this title would have only made a "minibus" edition . . . Yeah, not quite enough material there for an Omnibus, but they DID release a very nice deluxe HC not too long ago that you can find pretty cheap. HPB got shipments of brand new copies for $15, and you can get them on eBay new dealer overstock for about the same price, maybe cheaper. Well worth it. It's a beautiful series. Not worth anything, but Bolland is king, so I pick them up whenever I find nice copies for cheap.
  15. No comics to show for it, but I had a fun morning at a local G.I. Joe toy show. It was a small show, $2 entry fee in a small room at a local Hilton, but you never know what you may find. I keep telling myself I'm done collecting G.I. Joes, but I couldn't pass these up. Bought a big box of random Aliens stuff. I had all of these once upon a time. Now that they're 25 years old, I figured I'd better start putting the collection together around. And finally, Rom! No accessories, but couldn't pass him up at the price, as the lights and sounds are still working well. Fun morning!
  16. No yard sales this weekend, but my LCS had a Sidewalk Sale that started at 8am. These can be a shoot, but I've found enough stuff over the years to keep me turning up. Usually I get there about 7:45 and people have already started digging, but this time they made everyone wait until 8, so that was nice. Comics were all 50 cents a pop. Nothing jaw-dropping, but some solid pick ups for sure. Those late run Punishers are tough to find, especially in nice shape. The Silver Surfer 100 Marvel Watch variant is a nice book, and the Hughes Watchmen and Justice League 30 have popped recently as well. A couple of Wolverine Deluxe/newsstand variants, some shiny X-Men books, and some stuff for the personal collection. The large stack in the back are all Hellblazers, and the smaller stack are Bolland Animal Man. I've been working on both runs slowly, never paying more than $1, and I'm fairly close to finishing the runs! So, a couple hundred books, and it scratched my bargain bin itch.
  17. Yeah what happened? Did he have a melt down! Rucka is right about this imo. I would tend to agree, but the covers that have been shown so far seem pretty tame to me, especially for Cho.
  18. Oh man, terrific stuff. I had nearly all of these as a kid. Sold them off, started rebuying, sold it off, started rebuying again, repeat. I finally had to tell myself that although I love G.I. Joe (and Transformers and He-Man and...) I can't afford to buy everything I love, so I just deal with Batman and Aliens these days. But seeing that old box art makes me want to run out and start picking them up again. Can't beat that art. Great haul, congrats!
  19. LOVE custom bound books, need to get on that train myself at some point. This is really awesome!
  20. Jeff Smith, Matt Wagner and Mignola? A man after my own heart! Great stuff!
  21. Thanks! The Stelfreeze is in the back of my "Sixty Years of DC Comics" hardcover. I used to take it to every show I attended, and would get every creator who had ever worked at DC comics that I could find to sign it. I handed the book to Stelfreeze expecting him to sign inside the front cover, but instead he flipped to the back endpage, and proceeded to do that great Batman for me, and refused to take any money for it! One of my favorites for sure. Someday I'll get around to scanning all of the signatures in that book. Lots of memories!
  22. The only one I can speak to is the Uncanny X-Men 268. CGC 9.8 (regular) sells around $75. CGC 9.8 (JC Penny) sold for $200 about 3 months ago and I saw a few go for $150 - $175 prior to that. This book might be an outlier versus the other JC Penny ones because it's Jim Lee's first book on Uncanny X-Men. 248? 248 is indeed Lee's first X-Men work. 268 is the one that has the JCP variant (the classic Cap/BW/Wolvie cover). I bought a 9.8 JCP 268 on the boards a couple of years ago, should have held onto it! I bought one from a boardie a few years ago, I wonder if it's the same one. I ended up selling it a few months back on eBay. Anthony, wish I could've passed it along to you instead! I agree too about the status of 268 vs. 248. 248 always seemed weak to me, 268 is where Lee's actual run started and was promoted heavily as such at the time. It's been a couple of years, but I want to say that I bought it from Jim maybe three years ago, and sold it on ebay maybe a year ago? Fuzzy memory, but I do recall it was a nice book. I was picking up a lot of X-Men at the time, but later decided to narrow my focus, so off it went. I'd buy another one if I found it at the right price. Want to say I paid $200 for it at the time.
  23. A couple that I'm fond of: Jeff Smith: Brian Stelfreeze:
