  1. Also, IST has a Spring Forward DC sale going on. These price cuts aren't as steep as their clearance prices, but at a flat 47% off (49% if you've got the repeat customer discount going) that makes some of these the cheapest they've ever been. You may hold out for a deeper cut, but if there's something you've had your eye on, you could do worse. https://www.instocktrades.com/specials/481/dc-spring-forward-sale-2024
  2. No "official announcement" (as DC doesn't do things the same way Marvel/Omar do) but a bunch of exciting titles have popped up on PRH: Hellblazer by Jamie Delano Omnibus (I've been waiting on this one foreeeeeever) Superman: The Triangle Era Omnibus (ditto) Batman: The Cult Deluxe HC Green Lantern Corps by Tomasi Omnibus V2 Robin: Son of Batman Deluxe HC Scalped Omnibus Deathstroke the Terminator by Marv Wolfman Omnibus (!!!!) And a bunch of others. With these fan-centric announcements, and the recent reveal of their new Epic-style DC Finest line of comprehensive trades, it feels like someone over at the DC Collected Editions dept has finally woken up!
  3. Been waiting on this, the Romnibus has finally gone on sale. I have no doubt it sold a lot, apparently one of the biggest pre-orders of all time, but still, four different covers, I figured it was just a matter of time before the price came down. All four covers available. https://www.instocktrades.com/products/jul230816/rom-original-marvel-years-omnibus-hc-vol-01-perez-dm-var https://www.instocktrades.com/products/jul230817/rom-original-marvel-years-omnibus-hc-vol-01-miller-dm-var https://www.instocktrades.com/products/jul230815/rom-original-marvel-years-omnibus-hc-vol-01-buscema-dm-var https://www.instocktrades.com/products/jul230814/rom-orig-marvel-years-omnibus-hc-vol-01-miller-first-issue-c I'm going with the X-Men cover, though I'm tempted by the Buscema.= Also going down this week, the AXE Judgment Day omni. I didn't read this storyline so I don't know much about it, but I may pick it up if supplies last for a minute. https://www.instocktrades.com/products/jun231080/judgment-day-omnibus-hc
  4. At least they made it clear that the Camara was "for your parents" while you get stuck with the toys. Don't want to get those hopes up too high!
  5. What I want to know is, did anyone actually win that Camaro??? And was it all pimped out to look like Thunderhawk??
  6. It's also the best collection of amateur detectives ever assembled. You may fool someone here or there, but you'll never fool the boards as a collective. They are bloodhounds. (I say "they" instead of "we" because I'm not that bright and definitely do not add to the brain trust.)
  7. They offer payment plans, if you'd like to extend your descent into poverty. Good luck!
  8. Absolutely. Probably the best Batman story ever told. Having a genius like Mazzucchelli onboard definitely doesn't hurt.
  9. I actually enjoyed DK2. It can't hold a candle to the impact of the original, but as far as being bugnuts crazy, it's a really good time. I don't mind his art in that, though it's definitely a step down from the early Sin City work, which to me was the "final form" of his evolution", and the pinnacle of his art. I love Daredevil, Ronin, and DKR, but to me, Sin City was the purest expression of what he'd been trying to do all along, and I think it's beautiful. I don't like to mock his work of the last few years, for a couple of reasons: 1. Looking at the guy, I get the feeling that he is seriously unwell. 2. Who cares if it's not for me? If he's having fun, let him collect the checks. He's earned it.
  10. I love Kirby's 70 stuff, but I get what you're saying. As for Ross, I agree 100% on the static and photo-reference. If he would let himself off of his own leash, I bet he'd could do some really cool stuff. I remember a quote or interview, probably from the 90's, where I believe it was MIke Allred who said that Alex Ross was a great artist, but he wished he would put the reference photos away because then he'd really be something. Or words to that effect. I may have dreamt that entire scenario, but I stand by the sentiment!
  11. Great pics, @ADAMANTIUM looks like you've had great times!
  12. Yeahhh...just not my thing. Same deal with why I was never a Neal Adams fan, I don't really like realism in comics. The more "real" you make it look, the less active and interesting it becomes. Pretty pictures for sure, but not great comics. Edit to add: I totally understand why people might love Alex Ross, some folks really like for things to look "real", and that's fine. I'm a big proponent of "let people like what they like". Just not my bag. To me eye, when you make superheroes look to "real", it gets silly. A lot of Alex Ross's stuff looks like he got one of his neighbors to come over and put on a costume so he could paint it. That makes me titter. Tee hee.
  13. Well said, and I should clarify, when I said I "don't care" for Ross, I specifically mean as a comic artist, a storyteller. He definitely paints very lovely portraits, they look cool, but it's not really "comics" to me.
  14. I don't care for Alex Ross .His art has no dynamism, it just looks like a bunch of cosplayers standing around. There's no energy, there's not momentum. Kirby was all energy, all momentum. He was a master of creating motion on a static page. He also created nearly everything worth a damn in superhero comics over the course of a couple of decades. Man was a legitimate artistic genius. Alex Ross paints pretty pictures. There's no comparison.
  15. More deadbeats: kidney_11 Requested cancelation within minutes of winning, excuse given "found a better price". Nonpaying, no-contact, deadbeats: pesaran0 coldaslife90
  16. It wasn't at the top of my list, but I'd pick these up for sure.
  17. Absolutely! I'm biased as a LoSH fan, but I'd have to think these would sell in some format. Maybe a couple of compendiums to finish out the run, since they're experimenting with that format these days. We just got the Kyle GL stories, and Nightwing and Robin are coming up. Seems like a good way to collect big chunks of those late 90's/early 00's legacy character stories. I'll buy it however they want to give it to me. There was a point in my life where I thought that I was going to have to custom-bind all of my 5YL stuff, and now we have two omnis, so anything is possible!
  18. Well, I would advise against taking anything I say too seriously (I am a Certified Dumb Guy) but my recollection is that it's a solid read. I generally feel like you're in safe hands with Geoff Johns and legacy DC characters. I've never been a huge Aquaman guy either, but I did like these stories, particularly the early issues which have a bit of a horror feel. Good stuff.
  19. OH wow, sure, I remember those! Along those lines, I've been kind of nostalgic for those vintage NERF footballs, and the prices are YEESH. Who knew?
  20. My recollection is that this was one of the better New 52 titles, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Haven't read the series since they came out in floppies, but it was a good read with really lovely art. If I recall, I liked it enough to buy some art as well, though it's long since sold. I also read the spin-off, Aquaman and the Others, which was...not as good, but the main series was good enough to persuade me to try it, which is saying something. Johns is, in my estimation, pretty solid. Even his lesser books are entertaining. I bet you'll enjoy it.
  21. I was working at a comic shop at the time we had a WB Store, and the gallery manager was a customer of ours. So he would often hook me up, including some really cool store display pieces, like the enormous banners that would hang. I had a lot of that stuff in storage and it was damaged by flooding, really wish I still had it.
  22. BTW you just sent me down a dangerous eBay rabbit hole, looking up old WB store stuff, and I'll be forwarding any complaints from my wife (or bank) directly to you.
  23. The Ross plates were nice! I had most of the Batman The Animated Series plates, and I believe there was a Kelley Jones plate as well. Such an odd medium for comic art, but there's no question they looked great! Something about the gloss and the porcelain I guess, the concept really worked!
