  1. That’s where I’m at, on the silver/bronze stuff. My collection is a mishmash of omnis and MMWs, so I’m tempted to start over again in a single format. But in some instances it would be many years until the MMWs are caught up to the current omnis. It’ll probably be a game day decision for me, every month
  2. I saw some Instagram posts about it, but that's it. Thanks for the inside look. I wonder if CGC successfully found some new hires?
  3. Thanks a bunch, it was a fun weekend after having not bought much for a while!
  4. I posted this over in the HC thread in CG, but thought it was germane to this thread as well. Wow, Omar broke some big news yesterday: Marvel is going to reprint their Marvel Masterworks line, starting in 2023. They've announced the first 8 volumes, which are in the same order as the original 8 volumes. These will be new remasters, so it should be the best presentation of the material to date. What's VERY interesting to me is that they are apparently going to issue each book in both the now standard black/silver dress, as well as re-issue the "variant" covers (which originally were the only covers, before the line was rebooted, but I digress.) Anyway, this will presumably affect values on original printings. Now, to be fair, the first 27 volumes are very common and not expensive, so even if they're releasing a volume each month (which looks to be the case) it's still going to be at least a couple of years before they start getting into the volumes which currently enjoy a high resale value. It's also not clear just how far they're going to continue the line, though common sense would dictate that they'll keep releasing new ones as long as they're selling well. SO...yeah. Great news if you ever wanted to get in on the ground floor of this 30+ year reprint exercise, but if you're someone who is holding onto those harder to find volumes due to their value, you've got some food for thought. Personally, I'm looking forward to plugging in some big gaps in my collection, and am giving some thought to selling off some omnis in favor of the Masterworks, which are nicer books, and much easier to read.

  6. Yes that made me laugh as well, when Stormbreaker would slowly re-enter the frame. A lot of the jokes didn’t land, but when I DID laugh, it was genuine.
  7. I’ve always been big on separating the comics and the movies in my mind. Each is its own thing, so I don’t expect or need or even necessarily want the movies to be carbon copies of the comics. That being said, I definitely felt like Gorr and Jane were both severely short changed with this movie. I am generally onboard for Taika’s shtick, but there wasn’t enough of that charm to fill in the gaps here. In the end, it was an intermittently charming trifle, and not one that I’ll need to revisit. There’s just not much there. That being said, I laughed every single time the goats screamed. I can be an easy mark at times.
  8. Was this the copy on CLink? I was going after it but had to drop out as there were a couple of other books I was going after. Awesome book that you just don’t see around. Congrats on the pickup!
  9. Indeed! The arms are a tiny bit loose, but the paint is nice, so all in all I’m happy!
  10. A few books showed up this week! A few more MMW from the IST sale, along with the new Question Omni and Nocturnals Omni. Very excited to revisit the Question! Took a gamble on a EBay seller and ended up getting a good deal on the now OOP LoSH Before the Darkness vol 1, to go along with the clearance prices Vol 2 from IST.
  11. Some pickups from this week. First up, a couple of NECA Ripleys from my LCS. At one time I had every NECA Aliens figure, but I sold them all to fund two big purchases for my Alien collection, being my vintage Kenner Alien, and the HG Toys Alien Blaster set. I figured I could get the NECA stuff back down the road. Since I’m not in a big hurry, I just pick the stuff up as I find it. I’ve since re-completed my Alien 3 and Resurrection sets, and the 40th anniversary stuff. At $50 a pop, I couldn’t pass these up. Happy to have them back in the collection. I also picked up a few G1 pieces from the shop. The mini bots were $10 ea, so I scooped up a few. Gears and Brawn were the last two I needed from the initial wave of minibots, aside from a red Bumblebee. Over the last few years I’ve been chipping away at the complete first wave of 28 G1 figures, as well as the main 86 movie cast. I’m limiting myself to stuff I find in person, makes the hunt more challenging. I’m also a bit cheap, so I’m looking for bargains. So, now I just need Soundwave, Starscream, the cassettes, Ratchet, Bluestreak and Wheeljack, and I’ll be done with the 1984 first wave. For the movie cast, I picked up this Kup today, so now I just need Blurr. Slow and steady wins the race!
  12. Following a lull, I seem to be accumulating comics again! This is a mix of LCS, eBay, etc from the last few weeks. First off, very happy to have finished up my Love and Rockets 1 set with this third print grabbed off of eBay, in a lot which also included mid-grade second prints of 2&3. In a separate transaction I also grabbed a decent 24 at a not-stupid price. The Creatures and Jason/Leatherface were courtesy of my LCS, and are really snazzy copies. Oh, also picked up the gold claws Wolvie. It’s a little rough, but for $5 I figured what the heck. Finally, some dollar books from a peddlers mall we hit last week. Super nice Legion books, worth exactly the buck i paid for ‘em, but happy to have them!
  13. I’ve certainly given CGC my share of carp, so I have to be fair when they do the right thing. This is a huge, positive step in the right direction. Thanks Mike for keeping us alerted.
  14. What continues to be amazing to me is the number of folks trying to pull shady stuff in this community, as though we don’t all talk to each other. Reputation is everything, and the circle of people who spend thousands on these books is much smaller than some of these guys realize. As Hector said, Boardies have always done a much better job of policing transactions than any other selling body, but even the stuff that sells off-boards is going to come to light on these pages, eventually. Sorry you’re dealing with this mess, Balls. What a bunch of junk.
  15. For sure. While it’s always possible there were some gems, there are a lot of folks out there buying up every comic they see because they know comics are “hot”. I used to hit a lot of estate auctions, but I haven’t been in a while, because a few years ago there were suddenly a bunch of new people driving up prices on junk, never mind the good stuff. It’s like with my family and friends who know I sell comics come to me with their score, and I have to let them down gently that they aren’t sitting on a gold mine. Old doesn’t always mean valuable, unfortunately.
  16. Thanks friends! Yes, I nearly jumped for joy when I saw the Nightmare 18! Unfortunately it’s one of the rougher books in the lot, but it’s all there and relatively solid, so it’s still a keeper for sure!
  17. Hey, you have to move quickly if you want to be a tightwad!
  18. LCS got in a box of horror mags this week, so I stopped by the shop today, and picked up this stack. There are a couple of beaters, but most are decent mid-grade. I don’t see the Skywald stuff around here at all, so those were coming home with me no matter what they look like. They had several Psychos, I passed for now as the covers don’t grab me as much. I may go back next week and pick up a few more things. Mags generally don’t move very fast around here, so I don’t have to be in a huge hurry.
  19. LCS got in a little mid-grade horror mag collection, so I picked a few up today.
  20. I get it. He is absolutely a showbiz phony. But that's what I find so entertaining ha The tan, the teeth, the hair, the patter, it's all very superficial, but I find it amusing. Adding that to a genuine affection for his work, and I kinda love the guy.
  21. You didn't ask me, but I'll answer anyway! For me, I generally will go into CLink the morning after the auction cycle begins (since they usually kick off around 8pm, and I'm not on the computer at that time of night) and scroll through all of the listings, throwing a buck or maybe $5 on everything I'm interested in. That way, whether I'm the "winning bidder", or outbid, the book will still show up on under my Auction Bids in my profile, so I can track everything of interest.
  22. Great point. Anymore, $10 is a huge bargain for an action figure, the comic is just gravy. With "standard" action figures (Marvel Legends, GI Joe Classified, MotU Revelations, Power Rangers, Transformers Deluxe) up to about $23 at most places, $10 is practically an impulse buy. I haven't been a fan of Todd's DC stuff so far, but these are pretty cute. If I run across them in the wild, I may be tempted.
  23. @Jesse-Leegreat group of books! I love the wide variety, that's my kind of stuff!
  24. Reading that thread title, was wondering if I was having a stroke. Words...did not...make sense to me. Anyway, now I understand! Cool stuff, not familiar with them, but has a Darrow/Moebius/Fisher type vibe. Very cool!
  25. My nostalgia for these is based on the times when, as a kid, we'd go down to the lake for a weekend. There wasn't much "civilization" around, but there was a Walmart, and during the 90's, the Walmart had tons of these, up on pegs on an end-cap near the toy section. Starved for comics in a remote location, I definitely picked up a few. Good memories.
