  1. What a load of spoonerism. Actually the rules set up by Arch states (my bold for emphasis): 8) List estimated shipping costs, times, and methods. Where this person comes up with a 20-30 day normal time frame is beyond me. I'd love to have the sender of this PM defend this here. Same page on this one pov
  2. Not asking you to reveal names, but I have done MANY transactions on the boards and the ones that stretch 20-30 days are few and far between. From my personal experience, that just simply is not true. It is a more laid back selling experience because we know each other, but I find that actually has led to quicker transactions on average. So I say the longer you stay here the more you realize that someone may have been shoveling something there All that being said, it was not probation worthy but if I ran into a seller that unresponsive (until semi-called out on the thread) and then talked down to me like it was my fault for not being more patient, they would not be on my shop again list.
  3. 9 hours seems like a short period of time to me, to make an offer and then move off of it without any idea if it's going to be accepted or not. Did you tell him you wanted a response back in seven hours? No I did not, I just saw that he read it about a hour after I sent the first msg and I thought he didnt like the offer. I checked again about 5 hours later and saw no response. He did read the msg about a hour after I sent it and didn't respond. I know I sometimes do not respond immediately upon reading a message (people being able to see that is really unhealthy in my opinion). Keep in mind that in meetings or other activities throughout the workday, it is easy to check and read things without being noticed, but typing back a counter or acceptance may be more difficult. I hate to say it, but I would be pretty irked if someone did this to me...I do not know that I would come to the probation list but I certainly would not deal with them again But to answer your actual question I guess it depends on the nature of your offer...were you fishing for a discount or did you send a solid amount with the indication that you would take it if he accepted? If it is the latter, I lean towards thinking he would have the PL option if he chose to pursue it.
  4. Could the cover have gotten brittle perhaps? Looks like I see a couple other flecks in the bag and the top left spine may be missing a small piece...hard to see for sure. I know I got a Wings 90 a while back...looked great with fantastic cover colors, but pulled it out of the bag and board and some small pieces trailed behind. Anyway, I think the jostling of shipping shook loose some pieces that were hanging on just barely before it was sent my way.
  5. I believe this was Pirate's nomination originally. The next post appears to reflect him backing off his stance a bit. My understanding is an offended party (him or anyone else involved in the thread) must place the boardie on PL after a PM notification of such and a small wait period to respond (a couple or several days...I cannot remember exactly). Anyway, unless someone else made a nomination, it looks like the ball is in Anthony's court for the moment to confirm his first post or indicate that it was instead more of a public warning to others.
  6. I had this debate on here not too long ago. Trying to eliminate the word is only giving it power. I prefer to differentiate between any mental challenges and the term person_having_a_hard_time_understanding_my_point which I reserve for those who choose to act in a certain manner. DSMIV. Nice book with too much power. There was a time when homosexuality was a condition to be treated and now they want to treat people with a high sex drive. Insurance companies must love this book. I wonder how many are going to claim they can't work because they have a high sex drive. On the comic front I am starting to receive quite a few requests for Invincible issues graded. Could be the start of a trend. I can count several that I evaluated for SSI/SSD based an claims of sexual dysfunction. Do keep in mind though that diagnosis does not equal disability and quite honestly the DSM IV-TR holds no real power in that sense. Instead it is the clinician's and review board's judgment that will essentially determine if the capacity to be gainfully employed remains (or ultimately the judge if a case is appealed) And by the way the term "retarded" is offensive...try explaining it's use in slang to someone with an intellectual disability and see how it goes (tried to do that...not fun).
  7. (thumbs u Good work...still have a number of concerns about what I saw earlier when this discussion originally arose.
  8. If you had taken more care in hiding the seller's ID then I wouldn't have posted what I did - it took 10 seconds to find your post in the thread, how do you think I knew to advise you the international transit time, how did I know Sufunk bought in the same thread? I'll clarify my points: - General discussions about customer service expectations are fine even when they exceed community standards. - General discussions about what is or is not an "acceptable life changing" event to warrant delay of books is also fine. HOWEVER once you discuss either one where it can be related back to a specific board member then I don't think it's fair in the former or wise in the latter since you never know what the circumstances might be. I'd suggest a better effort in hiding someone's identity if you want to just ask questions or engage in general discussions. I'm glad you got some follow up communication from the seller (10-14 business days like I said) and if you truly felt you didn't "out" the seller here then I apologize for adding the STFU graemlin thing. It never occurred to me that someone would go and dig the information out of the posting history. I certainly never intended to out the seller, you figured that out all on your own. But now that you've brought posting history, I've reviewed your posting history as well and IMHO I wonder what makes you qualified to define/enforce buyer/seller interaction rules (other then hanging out on the board and talking alot). I don't see that you sell books, it looks like mostly you buy $5-$30 books. So unless you're doing a lot of PM purchasing, from what I can see your largest purchase is around $160 dollars. And I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that and I'm not a big book buyer either, I'm sure my $400 to $1500 dollar transactions cause some of the folks on here to roll their eyes as well but IMHO if you're going to call someone who's spending thousands of dollars on the board an idi0t and tell them to STFU because they have some concerns about a first time transaction with a given seller, at the very least make sure you're in the same situation. *ahem* - Correction, I have bought $1.50 books here. And I was quite happy with them. that drek was mine!!! Yay variant madness (thinking a come back of that once I get settled in to the new job)
  9. Delivery Confirmation is available with Media Mail. Not that I trust it to work, but Delivery Confirmation and Signature Confirmation are available on Priority Mail International. I am aware of that (and you are right sometimes the effectiveness is pretty spotty), but sometimes this option is not exercised by the buyer for smaller orders
  10. Thanks POV. I'm a team player, so whatever the majority agrees to is fine with me. I just wanted to point out a potential process flow improvement since it seems like there have been recurring problems in this area. I would imagine that coming up with any consensus is a bit like herding cats, so I apologize if this came across like stirring the pot. Lastly, I thought this was the "Probation Discussions Thread"? Back in 2011 I was still becoming acquainted with the board and I don't think I was purchasing until late in the year. Most of my major purchases have been over the last 6 months I guess. I certainly don't want to upset the entire process and I seriously doubt that I could even if I wanted to. I'm just saying that IMHO 30 days after real dollars has changed hands (not just a and no pay) is a long time to wait for at least a confirmation code from the PO. I can see where you are coming from, but you have to remember that that the rules are meant to cover all sales on the boards. That includes items sent without delivery confirmation, media mail, international sales, or otherwise where there is no tracking information to be sent. I guess my suggestion might be to PM the seller if quick shipping is essential. i.e. a message along the lines of Snake Eyes, I want to place a conditional if you can ship within three days (or a week...essentially whatever you are looking for) Thanks for your time, Walls Pretty simple to do and that way the seller can determine if that is an acceptable concession. Unfortunately, that does put you out of the running on feeding frenzy threads where quick is needed to grab a book (i.e. Foolkiller, CD4ever, Bio-Rupp, etc.) I think you will also find that in those larger threads shipping time does tend to lag a little as it can quickly get overwhelming to sort out all of the buyers and package multiple boxes. Anyway, just my two cents as the defender of the status quo
  11. I know there have been a number of discussions regarding process for the buy/sell area of the boards (I remember at the very least being involved in the most recent iteration of the probation thread rules and the development of the kudos threads...it used to be one long thread instead of personalized ones). Anyway, it seems that change generally happens by majority consensus of those that participate in the discussions (although when rules are being modified there is usually cross posting in comics general to alert folks to the discussion). As for how to change them (in the area of probation at least) this is the place. If you have any good ideas throw them out there I would suggest, however, that you offer some good arguements for the changes (some folks just complain that things need to be changed but fail to offer alternatives that are feasible). Keep in mind that the discussions are limited somewhat (you mentioned 18,000 members) as a large number of registered users do not post at all, and many who do are not active buyers/sellers here (thus the smaller group repeatedly posting in these areas). I for one, am a fan of the 30 days and do not see a need for it to change. However, I then tend to fall on the punitive end of laying the hammer on PL/HoS folks (especially repeat offenders). So some of the things I look for in gaurding the community I see in the current rules, others I would change. There are many points of view though and presently I think the current rules reflect a pretty wide consensus amongst the active buyers/sellers (protecting both in my opinion...and even though Norris Fest occasionally happens, I am primarily a buyer here).
  12. Five days elicits concern regarding a seller with known credentials/feedback? Let's try to remember that people have other things going on in their lives at times (be it work, family, other hobbies, etc.). While it may be nice if you are an immediate pay/immediate ship type of person, that does not obligate everyone else to adhere to that. We have the thirty day guidelines in place and unless the deal was consummated under different conditions, that is the generally accepted standard for a sale here (although some move much quicker than that). If immediacy is needed or several day delays in PM communications get distressing, perhaps buying in person is a better strategy that will evoke less anxiety/concern. Sorry to be somewhat harsh, but I just do not see a problem here at all
  13. Wish I was so observant, but today has been a walking disaster instead  Green noticed and I was just trying to bring it to everyone else's attention. By the way, I received the books from your last sales thread and they look GREAT. Thanks so much your thread got me a few comics that I can scratch off long-term to buy lists
  14. Green first noticed this, but it is worth bringing to the general attention of the boards I think.... Daken2626 remains on probation and is attempting to purchase in the sales forum. In this case, it was in a newer boardie's first sales thread...may have been trying to take advantage of someone less familiar with the forum or it may have been coincidence  http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=5448268&fpart=1 He appeared to cause a bit of a headache for Beachbum in a sales thread a month or so back and was confronted there... http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=243795&Number=5331259#Post5331259 Anyway, sellers may want to keep their eyes open and pass on warnings as appropriate if you happen to see the
  15. Some of the most egregious things I've ever seen in 14 years of practice were done by "charities." If it walks like a duck, it ain't an emu. Is it a witch? FYI, to those not well informed in the differentiation of such
  16. Damn...this is so disappointing...I kept hoping that it was simply someone in over their head with the labyrinth of regulations/agencies you have to work through to get official status. More and more, it continues to look like something less well intentioned than that. If that is that is the case and this couple is using the premise of helping children to benefit personally, it is unconscionable. Is there anyone in the area that can request a more formal inquiry by either tax collection or law enforcement officials? It certainly seems like some fairly serious questions need to be answered here.
  17. Art went above and beyond for a relatively small order of Twin City ASMs. Went to the hassle of printing a color copy of the pedigree certificate for EACH book (and we are talking $5 books here ) He also made a copy of the original Heritage invoice and included it in the order. Absolutely great guy to work with, and I give him (thumbs u (thumbs u (thumbs u (thumbs u (thumbs u out of (thumbs u (thumbs u (thumbs u (thumbs u (thumbs u
  18. Oh sure, I have been fooled more than once in my time here...I do not hold myself out as a human lie detector (especially when I have no nonverbals to observe). Also, I do not have the history of many of the folks here and certainly have not read all the historical threads that document the shenanigans that occur from time to time. In fact, it may have been you or Bosco actually that warned me I had grabbed a couple items in a Taz thread  Also, I know in the past I bought from Robojo. Of course, that's one of the things I like about here (as opposed to eBay and some of the other online retailers). Most of us have some sort of interest in looking out for each other...you get that warning via PM, or a post in the thread that things look shady (thumbs u And Air Supply Bosco?? You know me well I will watch out for you Snake Eyes, as long as you promise to never speak of licking Bosco's ear again. Done (thumbs u

  20. Probably that we all sublimate aggressive urges we dare not consciously admit to through the reading of our superhero stories...and of course our sexual drives through the (barely) societally acceptable ogling of GGA and our spandex clad Jean Greys/Emma Frosts All the meanwhile using the CGC message board as a thinly veiled medium (under the guise of discussing comics) for displacement, where we go after other boardies in such a way as we fear to do on those that are physically present in our lives (easy to lash out here...to significant others/family not quite as easy) Of course, I have never at all been impressed by psychodynamic theory....really just seems a scheme to bilk your patients for excessive sessions, but that is just my own bias
