At this point, does it really matter? do you think anyone on these boards will conduct business with him again? Probably not... Yes, it does...that is the reason the HoS exists. I do not do so, but there are a number of boardies who overlook some of the probationary folks. Simple fact of the matter is that the HoS exists to alert others to wide ranging or severe violations of the selling guidelines, whereas the PL addresses individual and less serious violations. Also, through the HoS process more people are alerted to the danger (through discussion, and oftentimes a reference in CG) presented by the people placed there.

Not sure this has come up yet, but given the number of failed deals and boardies left hanging, is HoS status more appropriate for Goodash?

Yeah, still feel uneasy about how things were left so I posted in the advertising thread asking for further clarification as to whether this was indeed a charitable auction. Also, reminded the poster of the rules to sell on the forums (OP claimed that in part the reason for the mess was folks not reading his initial post). Unfortunately, I did read it and there were a number of issues...I initially figured it was for a good cause and did not give the old over rules, but perhaps that was a poor decision on my part? :shrug:

My understanding is that it includes PM transactions. Further, I think any transaction with a basis here is eligible (the genesis for a number of complaints against Russ/Comic Supply...you advertise here, drive people to your site then rip them off).

Yes, i always buy my VF copper slabbed. What a thought out and cost effective solution. be sarcastic all you want. but it's the truth. if the OP did, he wouldn't be having this problem. we all know that grading is subjective on raw books. These do seem to be major grading flaws, though. Not quibbles. Still, I wonder for the OP what would make him whole? $10? A few more books? Seems like a very good deal and the 'wiggle room' should have been disclosed up front in the transaction rather than post sale. Is it simply lack of communication or did you really want compensation? Does seem like you got an exceptionally good deal to start with. If I were selling, I would acknowledge the oversight, but not sure I would give back money given the deal. Maybe a credit for a future purchase? Maybe ask buyer to send back books on his dime and then refund the price of those books within the deal? Curious what others would do in the seller's position. This is helpful for me as I contemplate starting my first sales thread. I ran into a similar difficulty when I was selling a group of books a while back. A group price was negotiated, with a substantial discount given. I was informed after the books were received that a couple were lower grade than expected. :doh: I fully believe that was the case, as the buyer had no reason to deceive in this case. I issued a partial refund in that case (as that is what they asked for). I had offered either a full return or to refund the amount those two books cost. I always allow for returns here (raw and slabbed), and would suggest you do the same if you want to promote interest and a feeling of safety with a new seller. However, on reflection, I think in the future I might try to just take returns on a whole order instead of partial. I think this for a couple of reasons...first, I just do not like negotiating those partial refunds. Second, I suspect if I overgraded a couple of books in a group of twenty to thirty, I probably undergraded a similar number. I think (especially on eBay) the partial refund allows folks to take the cream of the crop in a grouping of books and offset the cost by complaining about the low end of the batch :shrug: Anyway, just something I am considering moving forward. Either way though, not having a return policy...and not answering PMs is a sure fire way to make life difficult for yourself here if you sell.

Interesting topic. As have others, I too have been too eager to buy only to realize later that the book was coming from Canada/Overseas. I honestly do not think any of the folks across borders are purposely vague to juice sales though. How to fix this, I am not entirely sure. Honestly, when I sell, I want to give international folks a shot at the books (they get unfairly shut out of a number of threads in my opinion). However, I am not enterprising enough to list costs to every possible country and use the generic "outside of the US will be at cost." I guess that does self-identify my location for the people buying. In truth, this has not really been significant enough to stay on my radar as a concern :shrug: However, it will be interesting to see what folks have to say, and if this has been more of a chronic cost/difficulty for others.

I've taken quite a few books in his sales thread (which is still running, as far as I am aware), but haven't yet been invoiced. Interestingly, I have seen many a case of parental incest (even moreso down to the aunt/uncle level...and quite creepily a number of grandparent cases). But I think it is not you seeking the information so much as the attitudinal component.,.subjecting every seller's threads to YOUR personal views just seems a bit rude for lack of a better term. It seems to me that you would be welcome to ask whatever you want of the seller via PM as well as post concerns you have in what has been identified as the appropriate place (by consensus not unanimity I realize ) I really think you are risking alienating some folks here...as well as proposing a pattern of behavior that could easily become destructive in the marketplace (good intentioned as you may be, but you have to realize some of the grudges folks have here, and the acceptance of disrupting sales threads in the way you did could lead to a free for all ). This was all that I was asking...it really seems more in line with generally accepted forum etiquette in my opinion. And honestly I think more people read these discussion threads than you think. Thank you for the additional information....is it prying too much to ask how you are figuring this out (to increase my own detective skills )

I posted information, I wasn't seeking it. The issue is integrity in our marketplace. I've sent private messages to the seller in the past requesting that he consider being more upfront with information he has about his offerings, such as if they came from pedigree collections but are no longer noted so on the label. I guess we just do not see eye to eye on the place/way to do that. If what you say is true, I cannot argue that it should not be discussed...I think it is a worthy topic, but I think it sets bad precedent to post it in such a manner in sellers thread. It just hits the whole slippery slope argument to me and I think has the potential to turn the marketplace into a rather combatitive place. I would think instead to discuss those concerns in the discussion threads set aside for such :shrug:

I don't mind threadcrapping if it is appropriate. Agreeing on what is appropriate is the rub. Absolutely true...and in fact I doubt we would ever have unanimty on that issue (or really anything ) I think I would instead be arguing for common courtesy...and in this case it appeared to be lacking. In fact, that ability to treat each other here by the golden rule (in my opinion) is why the Marketplace is a thriving palce. We can at least be civil I would hope...I would hate to see this place turn into Comics General

I do not care for threadcrapping and my impression is that we reached a consensus as a community that the Marketplace threads are not the place for such. For lack of better language (wordsmith I am not), there are polite ways to ask for the information you are referring to. In fact, asking in thread if the books are pressed or sending a PM would be examples of such. Then there are attention seeking, shaming, or lashing out ways to gather the same information. The comments made by Namisgr certainly had that feel to me

Pooper Scooper list? Am I hearing a nomination for the Hall of Lame then? That comment really was off-putting...ask if a book is pressed or PM...but that post went well beyond the line of appropriateness in my opinion.

Interesting angle. I'd like to know that too. (thumbs u I went and pulled up his Sig Room thread. He states that he was in the Air Force from 1997-2005. I'm waiting to hear back from him. He's been reading the threads and I asked if I could post his email to me on here as it might explain a few things. Or not. Isn't it amazing what a mess a little dumbassery can create? I actually find it comical in a way. You couldn't -script this stuff for Hollywood. One lie started a bigger mess. Which is exactly the breakdown of the first fiasco. The dude clearly loves comic books, but i wouldn't trust him with a transaction involving a Snickers bar. Agree completely Sean...that is the clearest warning sign to me. Either he cannot or will not learn from past experiences. In either case, that places boardies at risk in the future and creates recurrent difficulties/drama generally speaking.

That's a a very well thought out post. I knew about two of the strikes (the concocted story strike - headache and this one). To me, two strikes are not necessarily a pattern. 3 might be. I actually did not realize there was a third. Does anybody remember what it was for? Looking at his threads around that time, it seemed to be a strike reflecting cumulative violations (listing books already on eBay, spamming with multiple sales threads, etc.). Just reflects a few minutes of digging, may have been more to it than that but I do not recall specifics.
