You are right as far as the guidelines are concerned, and the comments above I would have asked via PM (had I gotten involved). However, my opinion strongly differs from yours regarding feedback/references. If I cannot find such in a feedback thread here, or prior sales/buys by the OP, or they do not spntaneously provide it, I do intend to continue asking about that publicly and in thread as I feel it benefits more than just myself. I will of course change that if the sales thread guidelines/rules change. However, for now it is not prohibited by the rules and is generally understood as an appropriate question to ask sellers on here if such info is not provided in the opening of the thread.

Agreed I just felt I had to 'fess up that I do consider it. And of course you are right that we have a number of long-standing posters that succumb to the Dark Side Heck, if I remember correctly one of the recent topics of discussion here (GoodAsh) has been around longer than both of us (at least myself at any rate). In fairness I should not neglect to mention I have had some great conversations and returning customers on boardies that make their first buys in my sporadic sales threads. It's just that seeing that information right under the avatar is hard to miss and on larger deals certainly makes me more cautious.

Do you mean this? We have a standard template recommended by Arch when someone is violating any sales rules. That's the template for rules violations that I was referring to, and it must have been Mike who posted it the last time or two that I saw it in use. (thumbs u So, I'm suggesting we have a much more concise one for threads where a number of community members are concerned without dumping in someone's thread. "no one is standing next to their booth yelling to everyone passing by about how crazy the prices are." This is a fair point, and using a template takes this into account. We might not do this at the shows, but we can certainly take the discussions to places like Annie's List, Yelp, or these boards. Should a sellers asking price and post count be added to the rules then? If I'm correct, the seller in question has violated no rules for the selling forum. No, post count shouldn't be included at all, IMO. Additionally, the only aspect of pricing that need be included in forum guidelines already is--a price must be listed that the seller will sell the item for. If someone wants to price something at an outrageous amount, that's his or her call. I'm only suggesting this as a means of redirecting commentary about a seller's thread to the correct place--here, and not in his or her's sales thread. I agree that some folks were a bit out of line...felt adding a comment would only make it worse so I avoided the thread entirely. Yes the price was way out of line...and in my mind the reasoning for such was pretty poor (pricing as if the back cover did not exist ) Nonetheless, he did everything he was supposed to do...full disclosure, attempts to reassure buyers with further info/discussion, etc. At that point, it is his chunk of internet real estate and our agreed upon etiquette here is to leave him alone (and honestly the thread would have died a quick death if not for the pricing comments). Hell he even ran a grading thread on the book (the link to it was posted late, but it had been there all along for the dilligent buyer to find by checking his previous posts). Anyway, the one thing I will throw in here (since the above has been said by others) is that post count DOES matter. I know we want to treat everyone equally, but the simple fact of the matter is that if you come in just to sell or buy (not saying that was the case here, just generally speaking) it raises a red flag during your first bit of time here. I routinely post in threads of those individuals (that have something I am considering) asking about references/feedback. I do not do that with long-standing boardies (even if it is my first transaction with them, since I have seen them successfully complete others). Anyway, that concern is triggered almost solely by post count/registration date (sometimes people jack their posts up quick in the testing threads and whatnot). I try to be polite about the request, and suggest that contributing to the community would put more buyers at ease and increase the likelihood of their thread being a success, but I do factor that information in

Neff had a thread up for awhile indicating that some books were at CGC and coming back soon. Sales would fund his charity called comics for kids. Also, he solicited additional donations from boardies. Thread stayed pretty dormant for awhile (and think boardies went easy on him for a number of listing violations due to the charitable nature of the endeavor). Fast forward a week or two, I think and books are listed. Some books are listed as already sold (without prices and the previous indication of it being an auction). Some questions ensue as to how this occurred. Answers were a bit dodgy. Further digging (once people's radars went up) found some weird eBay listings (including advertisment for some salacious materials including a young Traci Lords prior to the age of 18). Also, it became less clear if any funds were being used to pay for the charity itself or the poster's personal expenses on a trip to a Comic convention. Some more , , and followed. Apparently, some other boardies had dealt with his charity before (or at least offered advise on making it an IRS friendly endeavor). More shifty responses from the OP and a cancellation of his sales moving everything to eBay. Further digging revealed links to an organization that is out of compliance/registeration with local authorities/agencies. Also, it has not been registered appropriately with the IRS to make donations tax deductible. Now, keep in mind this was a process that evolved over a bit of time and my memory may be off...I am sure folks will correct any errors I made The long and the short of it is that reassuring answers never really were posted and the OP kept insisting on resolution through email/PM. So no real answers, but certainly some flags to be cautious in my opinion.

True that... And it is hard to remove the social element from threads here. Conversation is naturally organic and discussions veer off course from time to time (needless to say we veered this afternoon ) Anyway, I think clamping down so hard on a discussion thread will have a bit of a chilling effect on participation...brief moments of levity make dealing with the PL bottom feeders bearable Pov...at least for me. Anyway, in my opinion, I think having the thread with the list only is more than direct enough for someone who needs a quick answer and that generally does remain pretty clean of other comments and off topic talk.

Yep...it's a shame and he is still lurking about despite removing himself from the PM...clicked through somewhere about ten minutes ago...so he could at least have given s-man the courtesy of a response GoodAsh User Up 20 words per minute since I signed up 9 minutes 47 seconds ago Viewing list of forums

So you call it "fighting the evil" now You kids and your euphemisms

No argument here. You are in'-A adorable. I make a motion to place these two dillholes on the probation list for playing virtual grabazz and forcing upon me the mental imagery of Fingh being not only adorable but in-A adorable. You can fight it all you want. It won't make him one iota less adorable. Your subtle undertones may work on the diminutive, scarlett hair but you have no sway with me. Your lips say no....... That sultry lawyer double speak does make me question my resolve...but...it cannot be. This is the most awkward threesome I've ever witnessed. Always room for one more on the pile.... Is this the mod-magnet quadrafecta of which you spoke earlier or have you worked your way up to an octo-pile???

Wish I could say I am surprised...dealing with adversity brings out the best in some people and the worst in others I am disappointed for S-Man though. It was a class act to try one last time to let him work it out, but as we know no good deed goes unpunished, huh?)

Weekends and evenings see more thread postings in my opinion (especially seems to be a good number of threads started on Saturday). The thing about here is that the eBay Sunday thing represents numerous auctions ending. Your thread can run here as long as you like (thumbs u About the only advice I have about thread success/start times is a bit tangential (since I think starting at any point in time really offers little in the way of harm). First, if possible avoid listing on days that any attention you get would be steam rolled by a big thread put up by a popular seller (sucks up people's funds and attention). Secondly, I have never ceased to be surprised by folks that list for eight hours, twelve hours, etc. and subsequently start griping before pulling their threads within the same day as listing. Be patient It is okay to let a thread run more than twelve hours. Also, we know it is a pain to scan and list, but PLEASE do not insult the buyers, call us cheap, or generally on the boards as a whole (believe it or not you see this in little snide comments or complaints by the poster on a not infrequent basis after they appear to get frustrated by not generating as many sales as they would like). Make the thread a welcoming place...sit back and enjoy the company (thumbs u

I think the problem with this is something I referenced earlier. By agreeing to let a PL person buy from you the deal hoses the boardie with the transaction that was never completed. Kind of an aiding and abetting thing in my mind. For example...I on $100 worth of stuff from Rupp. I fail to pay, get thrown on the PL and reside there for a few months. After the hubbub dies down, I quietly attempt to buy things by PM from folks. I think a seller that takes the funds knowing I am on the list is essentially taking funds that should rightfully go to the original seller (Rupp) that I failed to complete the transaction with. I had the ability to correct matters, but by selling to me while I am on the PL we allow the original issue to carry over

Sharon You make a good point, and I agree completely about rudeness/poor manners not being sufficient for HoS or the ceremonial booting into outer space However, my understanding is that both of these individuals have multiple failed transactions...Goodash somewhat of a spree of difficulties of late (I counted several boardies with individual complaints). Daken has had problems dating back to 2007 by Transplants account. Anyway, just my two cents...I do not feel strong enough about either case to push it any further since I was not the aggrieved party. I did want to throw it out there as a suggestion though (thumbs u
-
Good on you Dre (thumbs u and for those bullying via PM We can address issues in a more civil manner I would hope. A mistake was made, Daken's status on the PL was brought to everyone's attention, folks generally agreed that keeping an eye on the PL is something to be more aware of...all is again well I would hope. As for 8milemax's post above...daken does appear to be a serial offender. Similarly, I mentioned the possibility of Goodash for the HoS a few pages back as well. Do we need to post a vote on that and move forward, or is the general feeling that leaving them on the PL is the best option?
-
Just my two cents and some food for though Dre (and credit to Transplant as it was his post I am quoting/stealing)...when you do business with an individual on the probation list and accept their payment it prevents such funds from being used to resolve problems/debts with other boardies in the community. Also, if he is flaunting this, it weakens the effectiveness of the system designed to look out for each other that has been put in place by community agreement. He's a serial delayed seller/buyer.

Apologist. I'm sorry I was sorry

At this point, does it really matter? do you think anyone on these boards will conduct business with him again? Probably not... Yes, it does...that is the reason the HoS exists. I do not do so, but there are a number of boardies who overlook some of the probationary folks. Simple fact of the matter is that the HoS exists to alert others to wide ranging or severe violations of the selling guidelines, whereas the PL addresses individual and less serious violations. Also, through the HoS process more people are alerted to the danger (through discussion, and oftentimes a reference in CG) presented by the people placed there. I agree. Personally it doesn't matter to me. I was one of the individuals who agreed to sell him a book on time payments only to have him flake out and go AWOL on me. Luckily I was able to move the book quickly and wasn't hurt by his actions. I just know I wouldn't need a HoS list to not conduct business with him; I do see the need for it for others though... (thumbs u My fault for not being clear there...it was suggested to protect the other folks that may not be as aware of the apparent shananigans I've been reading about...sorry for the miscommunication
