  1. Hi, While I can agree that PPTSS will never be a full substitute for ASM, one has to look back and see why Marvel decided to have multiple concurring runs of Spider-Man titles back in the day. There was an audience for both and when you think of it at face value the books cover prices were not that different. I just happened to have started off with Peter Parker instead of Amazing Spider-Man when I used to hang out at the comic book shop every Friday afternoon. That is why I am focused on this title and not the other, it would be expensive to start an ASM collection as opposed to completing my PPTSS title. I just bought a full run of PPTSS from someone who kept them in amazing condition so the books are all in Hight Grade 9.0 or better for like 800$. I cannot imagine how much a full run of ASM in raw books at high grade would cost.
  2. Just seems like the spike for 64 with the data showing on CGC census is a bit irrational when compared to the rest of the key issues. I just purchased a complete PPSSM run all at High Grade 9.0 or better for about 800$ I mean how could I spent 150 for a single issue when comparing that. But 9.0 and 9.6 are worlds apart of course.
  3. I think PPSSM will be in higher demand as time goes by and ASM becomes too expensive for the average or casual collector. Not sure if comic book collecting is going the same way the Avalon Hill Wargames did and the hobby is mostly legacy and old timers. Are there signs that the younger crowd is getting into the hobby or is my gut feel close to the mark?
  4. I am curious as to why the Cloak and Dagger key seems to be so highly prized as compared to most of the other PPSSM keys? What sets this book apart from ther others, I am going to guess the character but I had not followed any of the Cloak and Dagger storylines or comic series. Angelo
  5. One has to have a keen eye for this as when dealing with pictures sometimes the glare and the angle makes it hard to see these things. But that appears to be a minor collection of tiny defects and that is what brought the book down to the 7 range Now would a Press and Clean helped the book maybe score an 8 instead?
  6. I am seeing a 5 to 5.5 book, it is true the cover is appealing and maybe that gives it the little extra edge.
  7. That is good news. as I like to do dry clean on my books with the cotton swabs and erasers. I have a feeling it is worth grading especialy if you plan to keep and potentially sell it at the right moment. I find buying raw books on Ebay is a bit of a spoon shoot.
  8. I agree on the Interesting point but are people collecting the books on the value of the story or the art and key events? As you mentioned when I first started buying the books back in the 70's I used to read them and then stack under the bed along with my hockey and baseball cards. I also had started collecting stamps and coins but I stopped buying comics when I hit grade 11 and finished high school, since i was in college and working as many hours as possible at the same time. But like you mentioned the bug never really goes away and you occasionally go back and get a few more but by that time it was bagged and boarded byt the time I got them home. As luck would have it, we wound up moving many times and eventually I went to work in Europe and the states for like 20 years or more and when I came back home most of the long boxes were gone since they took up too much room and were disposed of by innocent parents who did not know the value of the comics or hockey cards. Even my collection of rock concert T-Shirts was gone. So now I just buy the books bagged and boarded and remember that the few books I had left are mostly PPSSM and some oddball titles.
  9. I appreciate the tip; I will look to make sure I don't compress the books too much and get a second long box if needed.
  10. Most of the collection is Spider-Man related with a majority going to Peter Parker Volume 1, there are a couple of valuable books like Amazing Spider #344 and a few higher value keys in the Peter Parker. I find the prices vary so muich that is not the time for selling or even slabbing books that would not score a 9.4 or better. I am looking at all the Buy it Now and Auctions with slabbed books at 9.6 or better and trying to get a steal whenever possible.
  11. I am starting to review my collection and decided to Cold Press the books at home with protective cover on front and back of book, using my Vevor T-Shirt Press without the heat and sandwiched between two aluminum sheets. I have been pressing the books this way and let them sit in the press for 24 hours before sliding them back into the bag and board. I am storing then in a Comic Book long box standing up vertically and pretty tight to help avoid curling. I am pressing the books once every 6 months or as each book comes back in the round robin as the collection is still relatively small for now (~150 books only a few are slabbed) Any ideas on if this is a good practice or ae
  12. Hi, I am finally getting back into the hobby after a 30 year absence and find myself questioning the relative rankinf of the various Spider Man titles. When I had first started it was an even split between Amazing Spider-Man and Peter Parker Spectaular Spider-Man but for some reason I was finding a prefernce for the Peter-Parker titles as I found the covers more attractive In so far as restating and filling the gaps, I am looking more at the Peter Paker books but am wondering if in general people value Amazing Spiderman more. I find that the characater cross overs and key first appearances have a better growth potential when comparing FMV and long term value to be better on the Peter Parker series as opposed to Amazing Spider-Man. I am no fortune teller, it just feels that way to me when I am looking at the books on Ebay and other sites. What do you guys think?
  13. I am going to just get in the habit of looking for Slabbed books, I don't trust any of these people on Ebay that give out a grade when the book is raw. My eyesight is not that good, so I miss some of the details most of the folks on here point out. I have a list of Peter Parkers that I am working on to complete the set of Keys and maybe the entire run.
  14. To be honest, it would be embarrassing to give those books to a young child as a gift, my nieces and nephews.all have laptops and smartphones so it would not take long to figure out that the books will never really gain any value. They are mostly in VF+ as I never unbagged them from the day I bought them and a few are NM or better but in the end the time it takes to sell them one by one is really not worth it. The fun part would be to show them Ebay listings that are grossly overpriced if I do give them the stack. LOL
  15. This is the list of books I am referring to: Bugs Bunny #3 Checkmate #4 Conan the Barbarian #68 - #168 DarkHawk #1 Deadshot #2 Flash Gordon #7 Havok & Wolverine Meltdown #2 The Spectre - #23 Maervel The Pitt Martian Manhunter #1 - #2 Justice League #2 , #3, #4, #5, #6 + Annual #1 Justice League America (1989) #26 - #29 Justice League International #7, #18, #19, #22, #23, #26 Legion `89 #1 ManHunter #1 Shi Vs. Tomoe #1 - Wraparound Chromium/Foil Cover Sinister War #1 Mark Bagley Wraparound Variant Cover Skreener One of Six Spider-Man and X Factor ShadowGames #3 Starman #5 Tailgunner Jo #1 The Shroud #4 The Spectacular Scarlet Spider #1 The Weird #2 Woflpack #7
  16. I am checking them out, the wanted list feature is interesting. Will have to catalogue my books and see if they are on the wanted list and or how long before they expect to be wanted. I figure heck I might get 50C per book. LOL
  17. Is there a Sell Your books thread or something? I am just about ready to send in my first submission so I will be doing a paid membership shortly.
  18. I know, I have been trying to get a nice copy at a reasonable price. I lost out on a few auctions, but this book is #28 My nest target is #64 , which I have access to a 9.2 Graded for 120$ Canadian. I figure I can slowly replace all my mid or lower end high grade books with better copies. and pre-slabbed whenever possible.
  19. My eyesight is just not good enough for the level of detail, I am amazed at the things you guys see from a Scan or picture.
  20. I am in Montreal, and to be honest I cannot believe the poor supply of Back Issues here. I never expected to check in with five or six of the better known comic shops here some with huge inventories but none of them having Peter Parker Spectacular Spiderman keys that are worth buying. Just the cost of shipping from Ebay Sellers if I buy 6 or 7 individual books would easily cover buying several books. I still bite my fingers thinking of how I used to hit all the comic books shops back in the day and get those comics right off the rack and somehow I missed Peterr Parker #7-11 Canadian price variants. I have allot of Justice League and one off's I will package and sell them as a bundle on Ebay for cheap. Where in Canada are you and are you a dealer or a collector?
  21. I am thinking the same thing, I look at the GoCollect page for each of these books but I am not a subcriber as I don't see the added value of paying GoCollect for data I could probably gather elsewhere. But the main thing is I am trying to build up personal collection of Peter Parker Spectacular Spider-man books. I have been away from the hobby for almost 30 years and now that I am turning 60 an no longer working I find myself scouring Ebay for PPSPM bboks at auction and since I got burned on 2 or 3 raw books by now i am really just bidding on Graded Books and save myself the extra trouble and expense. Remember I am in Canada and there is a 30% exchange rate, so paying to buy the book have it shipped to me then shipping it to CGC paying for Grading maybe Pressing and then return shipping makes no sense whatsoever. I am thinking to fill my Run of Peter Parkers and keep it for at least 5 or 10 more years before I look at possibly rehousing them.
  22. Hi, I am looking at this specific book on Ebay and am wondering if the 9.0 grade to 9.2/9.4 afer clean and press is close. The book looks clean but I feel like it has a spine roll and am not sure how much that would reduce the grade. Peter Parker The Spectacular Spiderman #28 Frank Miller : HIGH GRADE Cgc 9.0 | eBay Any assistance is truly appreciated.
  23. I am just getting back into it after 30 years of not buying any new or old comics and have found the prices to be a little crazy out there. I was wondering if it is even worth listing a pack of 25 or 30 comics from various tiles and oddball #1's as a package and sell it for a few bucks instead of creating a bunch of listings on Ebay. I listed five or six books to test the waters and let's just say. 0 views on them in the pas 5 days. Kind of makes you wonder in the end; I see people pushing non-key junk at ridiculous prices and shipping on top of that. I am sure if I went to a comic book shop, they would probably offer me 10Cents per copy even though they are all FN+ with a couple VF+/NM in the stack.
  24. I know for sure, if I brought all my DC comics and Justice League and other tiles I bought back in the 80's as I was exploring, I figure the entire 150 books or so woudl be worth the price of a Premium Beer and a decent Burger, not much more.
