  1. Lastly, back in the 60's, I used to have relatives hold one of my current FMs for a photo. This one is from Sept 1967. FM was the BEST!
  2. FM 1 test shot and someone was selling the mask used for FM 2. Not sure if this mask was marketed or a one of a kind.
  3. Back in the 1970's I went to the Warren offices at 145 East 32nd Street by train to purchase one of those kewl Don Post masks advertised in FM. I believe it was $34.95. I paid cash and they went in a back room and brought out the mask. Here is the office and the mask I bought (which has since disintegrated with age).
  4. Something I saved from somewhere. A checklist of FM 1-27 with notes about each issue
  5. Here's my FM 4 and the old Ghoul's Eye Ride (in Pennsylvania)
  6. I finally picked up this low grade copy of the Sept 1939 Startling pulp, Schomburg's first cover. It went from the original 15c, to a handwritten 25c, then to 30c and 75c. This one exchanged hands a lot.
  7. I still have most of these. 1-36 and 6 annuals. I stopped at 36 because I remember that 36 and later seemed plentiful as back issues for years and years in Warren ads. Under 36 were the rarest. I love the issues after 36 but the 36 was as good a stopping point as any to keep the collection manageable.
  8. Love that cover. Oddly GCD says it's a Burgos cover?! Looks like Everett to me.
  9. Perhaps Goodman was also skeptical of superheroes at that early stage, which would have been the time of Marvel Mystery 3. He'd figure it out soon enough after his comic book contest results and sales figures came in.
  10. It's interesting that the Timely ads are adorned with jungle and western drawings, not the superheroes. Ka-Zar gets star billing, perhaps was thought to be the best feature? The Sports pulp also contains these risque ads which is a little jarring next to the comic book ads.
  11. Got this toy yesterday (the one on the right)
  12. Nice copies! I just noticed that the Marvel 3 inside front cover ad is the same telescope ad on the Marvel 1 inside back cover but the coupon is DEPT H on Marvel 3 and DEPT C on the Marvel 1. The third scan is the modified telescope ad that appeared in Marvel 9. Still $2.19. These telescope ads must have been very popular since we see a lot of Marvel 1s with missing back covers.
