  2. I have know Joe for a number of years (he has purchased 1000s of raw books from me). Last year we had some conversation regarding a couple of CGC books that I felt were undergraded. Joe pointed out areas that could be improved and I decided to give him a shot. BEST DECISION EVER!!!!! I have since given Joe several hundred books of all ages to press; most went on to CGC while others were just to improve the look of a low grade copy. In several instances where I thought a press only was warranted, Joe saw the potential in the book and worked for hours to get it just right, resulting in grades that were beyond anyone's expectations. I would echo what others have stated as far as Joe's knowledge and passion regarding comics and his relentless efforts to bring each book to its full potential. He provides a grade for each book and when they return, he points out where the improvements were made that led to each book's grade. I have many examples of books that I felt might get mid grade 6.5-7.5 that far exceeded those grades. One of the best was a CGC 8.5 SA minor key that I received with a cracked case that was too bad for a reholder. I sent it along with a group of books to Joe to see if it could be improved since I would have to resub anyway. The book is coming back at a 9.6! Another early SA issue (below #5) was purchased by me as an 8.5. That book is now a 9.4! I have many other examples of 2/3 grade jumps over what I thought they would be prior to Joe's efforts. I believe we have CPR'd another 5-6 books and every book has increased from its prior grade. Most importantly, every book Joe has worked on has better eye appeal than when submitted with some killer improvements. I would highly recommend Joe to anyone considering getting their books cleaned. He may take a little longer than some to turn the books around but I have used some of the others and can tell you that using Joe is well worth the wait. Ed Robertson
  3. Picked up two nice CGC books and two raw. All were nice and packed very well. Great guy to deal with in my book. Ed
  4. Francisco is a great seller and buyer. Great communication, fast payment, fast shipping. Nothing more to ask for except more transactions together. (thumbs u
  5. Just completed a large deal with John that was flawless. Great books that were packed perfectly. No worries dealing with John from my perspective.
  6. Bought four nice CGC books from Dan. Very fair to deal with and packs his books great. Highly recommended seller.
  7. I have purchased several high dollar books from Jay. He is a class act to deal with and ships his books fast and packed securely. I cannot really recommend him because I don't want him selling to anyone else. OK, he is one of the best. Ed
  8. Just received two SA keys from Ron. Seamless transaction with great communication. Can't wait to do more business in the future. Ed R
  9. I think that's the seller of the book, not the buyer...and not the person who sold the book here. "Harold" has many addresses. I believe that Sharon is correct. The timeline has Kindle buying the book in December then posting in the AF 15 club thread shortly thereafter. He also referenced he was going to upgrade his 2.0 when he offered the book to Joe and me.
  10. He found the thread! Maybe now he'll respond to his own nomination? Well, he is still posting about AF15s so maybe he "found" the 2.0 and plans to "ship it" again to me.
  11. Don't forget to vote on the poll on page 2307 as well. (thumbs u Ed
  12. I am reposting the first page of my posts with some edits as support to the poll to add Kindle (Marc Cain) to the HOS. The facts as presented below are agreed to by Rapid08 (Joe) as well. I recently purchased several books from a Board member (Kindle) that were "lost by USPS". At the same time, another Board member (Joe) was offered and purchased one of the books (AF 15- CGC 2.0) as well (neither of us knew this at the time). His book was "lost" as well. Again, neither of us knew about the other as a buyer of the book; however, through a bit of coincidence, we ultimately found out. There are more details, etc. but the basics are as follows: - both sold the same high dollar book by another Board member- serial # and pictures match (AF 15- 2.0). The AF 15 was sold to each of us via PM and not included in his sale thread where I purchased the other three high-dollar books; - both paid using credit card via Paypal; - told our package "missed the USPS cut-off for an electronic label to be shipped". We were given tracking numbers tied to our Paypal transactions that noted electronic label created but no further updates were ever made. Tracking information showed both packages were only insured for $100 each; - after several stories (not his fault, told the package made the deadline, package missed deadline and would be returned to sender, package lost), it became clear we were not getting the book; - when we asked for a Paypal refund, we were both told the same quote; "Unfortunately I allocated the funds for other assets and therefore have to wait until the claim clears in 30 days". Marc told me to file a Paypal claim but tried to get Joe to file directly with his credit card company as he was having some issues with Paypal (my claim was in the works at that time); - both of our claims were eventually paid although not as easily as it should have been; - I sent a PM to Marc telling him about the discussion but he was not interested in commenting- told me that I got a refund so basically what was my problem. Consensus of the comments so far is not a PL since no real remedy; however, definitely a HOS vote. Ed Robertson
  13. You would have to ask him but while I may be old, I am not a lady (female).
  14. So where does this leave the HOS recommendation?
  15. He is not accepting any further PMs from me or Rapid08. He referred to all of us as a "bunch of old ladies" so doubt he will be joining the festivities. You've had some luck with boardies recently - weren't you the one involved with Ron "nuttier than a squirrel turd under an oak tree" Mkay as well? I've seen Ed in here a few times this past year. Innocent as charged! Maybe there should be a scammers alert list to warn them not to mess with certain Board members.

  17. I am not sure how Paypal handles the back end of a claim; however, at this point, Marc did not fund the refund- used to "allocate to other assets". Paypal may be able to pursue him but they did not get any money from him for the refunds.
  18. My guess has been that since he took the money out of his paypal account, he keeps the money and Paypal makes good on the refunds. He keeps any books he actually had and may or may not have received a loss claim from the Post Office. As I posted earlier, he only insured my package for $100 so I doubt he actually filed a claim through them. Yes, once someone pulls the money out of their Paypal account, Paypal no longer has access to it. They can't just charge the cards or debit the bank account on file to reclaim the loss. They can only pursue it via their collections department or through court. I'm sorry, but that's incorrect - Paypal most certainly can do just that. They can if he has a credit card still linked and there is money in his checking account.

As I posted earlier, he only insured my package for $100 so I doubt he actually filed a claim through them. Has anyone ever heard of a five figure usps insurance claim being paid in a week or two? I pasted earlier that he only insured my package for $100. I just meant that , even if he did insure it for the full amount, there's no way they are paying out 10k in two weeks like this. Sorry, hard to keep everything straight at times.
  20. So he never answered how he planned on delivering the same slab, with the same serial number , to two different people simultaneously, huh? That's some David Copperfield Statue of Liberty disappearing type stuff. He tried the " I sold two different books" first and then decided to disappear.

  22. These guys want HOS, and I'm inclined to agree since it apparently involved multiple people with intent to deceive. I did not think PL worked since there would not be any remedy but HOS seems very appropriate.
  23. Maybe, Pulls the cash out and leaves paypal on the hook when buyers complain of no delivery. He pockets almost 15k total counting the over "books" he sold. Never delivers any books I guess. That is my hypothesis.
