  1. I am anticipating a slow show this year; however, if anyone shows up, I am blowing out three boxes of graded books at 1/3 off and another two lower value (including a bunch of Walking Dead) at Buy 2 get 2 free. I will also have 16 long boxes of mostly 1950s to 70s books of all types and genres at $1-5 each. Lots of Superman and related titles stating at 10 cent cover prices. Also lots of My Greatest Adventure, Strange Adventures, Space Family Robinson (Lost in Space), Star Trek (Gold Key) and many others. Ed
  2. I will have two booths as usual- listed as 406. I will be bringing several thousand 10-12 cent DC and Gold Key issues for $1-5 as well as my usual assortment of priced, half off and graded. Hope to see some of you there. Ed
  3. Truck is loaded with over 120 long boxes and over 600 trades/graphic novels. Hope to see a few of you Thursday-Sunday.
  4. We are in the same spot as the past two years, except this year we will have a full 20x 20 booth set-up. One 10 x 10 will have my display boards full of better books and 35 or so long boxes of $10 and up books, sets, graded books, etc. The other 10 x 10 is going to have around 10 long boxes of Trades/Graphic Novels for $2 & 5 each, 10 boxes of sets runs for $2 or 5 each (less than $1 per book for most) and approximately 40-50 other long boxes of $1 books from SA/Bronze to a large group from the past 5 years (all companies, genres, etc.). In short, we are loaded with bargain books this year and anxious to sell. Ed Robertson Comics
  5. I haven't been on the site much lately but heard about Brittany's accident from a friend and figured there would be something here. Always a great community when someone is in need. Just hit the GoFundMe page to move a little closer to the goal. Ed
  6. Brian, Rumor has it that a few local comic dealers in Phoenix bought the majority of the remaining inventory after the store closed. I purchased hundreds of high grade Warren magazines from one dealer and he told me they purchased hundreds of thousands of comics and magazines from Passaic. Unfortunately, I did not move to Phoenix until 2002 and a lot of the books had already been sold.
  7. Loading the van in two hours; headed to Long Beach tomorrow at 5:00 a.m. I hope to see a few boardies there. Ed
  8. I did just finish sorting out 3 mag boxes of Mad Magazines from around #174-500, not complete but probably 250 Mads. I will be selling them at $2 each; 15 for $25. Lots of Mad Specials and movie covers.
  9. Unfortunately, I have not picked up any new GA books lately. Bronze and SA yes. Perhaps I will get lucky one more time.
  10. While I won't be doing a "Fan Dance", I will have a lot of comics in all price ranges and genres. I just finished processing over 500 Bronze Richie Rich comics that are almost all $2 each each. Lots of bargains and some nice books as well. Hope to see some of you there. Ed Robertson
  11. Not sure if it has been started yet so wanted to get the Long Beach Comic Expo on the list for this year. Here is the link to the show site http://longbeachcomicexpo.com/ I will be brining some new books from two smaller collections I picked up since the September show. I hope to see some of you at this year's Expo. Ed
  12. I didn't realize that was my 1000th post. Not sure it it was or helpful but it is a meaningless milestone, nevertheless.
  13. The capital gains tax for collectibles is 28%. There are many nuances to tax laws with differences between a collector selling a book and a dealer/store owner. I am fairly certain that a collector cannot deduct a net loss on sales of books in any year. The IRS has literature on collectibles, but basically, if there is a gain, you pay taxes. If there is a net loss, than the IRS considers that a hobby and no losses can be taken to offset other types of income I don't recall the specifics; however, something to the effect of claiming losses in 2 or 3 out of 5 years makes it a hobby. As noted, talk to a tax expert, someone that is very knowledgeable regarding collectibles, not just general tax knowledge.
  14. The second check is routed through several banks and takes well more than 10 days to clear. It is a total scam. I have a check from such a scam that was overnighted. Several text threats later he disappeared and I still have his check. If it was legit, would he leave me keep a check for several thousand dollars with no comics on his end?
  15. In talking to the floor manager at the end of the show, I believe they will do another show in the Hockey arena. The staff of the arena were very helpful to ACE and I think they liked the seating for the panels (thousands attended several of them and were able to sit in the hockey seats which are very comfortable). If they bring in another heavy-hitter line-up, then the people will come.
  16. Most of the problems were on Saturday when all of the things you mentioned occurred through-out the day. The main floor area was pretty crazy as the stage for the celebrities was part of the floor space. As a result, whenever a panel was in session, there were no people at the vendor booths. When the panel adjoined, everyone had to come through the vendor area, some to shop but many to get in photo-op lines. It was definitely a challenge; however, from talking to several vendors, we all had to agree that our sales were exceptional whenever people took the time to shop so there was a trade-off. I can also say that there were people who had flown in from all over the U.S. Canada, and Australia that I know of. The celebrity line-up was the best that Phoenix has ever had, resulting in lots of people who surprisingly had money to spend on both the celebrities and artists and the vendors. All in all, I think there were plenty of issues and some upset people; however, there were more people who seemed to love the experience, despite the loines, waiting time, crowded areas, etc.
  17. I can tell you that I sold more books yesterday than I did for both days of Fanfest and the Long Beach show in September. It really depends on what you are looking for. Dave and Adams have all the big Marvel keys. There are not a lot of comic vendors; however, there are good books there and I can tell you that mine are priced to sell. Ed
  18. Looks like I will be on the main floor in booths 305 & 307. I will have lots of nice books priced from $1-5000. Mostly Bronze and SA. I do hope to see a few Board members at the show in one week. Ed
  19. I will be there with two booths loaded with nice books from dollar books to $5000 books. Lots of high grade Bronze and SA. Ed
  20. Utter destruction and devastation. I am glad you and your family are safe. What you are and will go through are hard for most of us to imagine. I hope you receive some positive news soon as far as housing, etc.
