  1. After reading the marathon JIM 83 posts, I thought I would not be back in the PL thread for a long time; however, I then find that I had a seller back out of an agreed deal so I am nominating Mkay (Ron Murray out of Vegas) to the PL. Details- On January 29th, Ron sent me a PM with a scan of an ASM 129-9.4. We agreed on a price and he provided his paypal address. I immediately paypaled the money and was surprised to receive a refund email within minutes of the payment. I tried to PM Ron to find out why; however, he removed himself from the thread and is no longer receiving PMs (from anyone evidently). He only has two posts. I sent a message to his email address (paypal address), but have not received a reply. While I am disappointed, I am more concerned that other Board members may come in contact with him as I originally encountered him in a WTB thread. Comments/thoughts? Ed
  2. I just received two great books from Michael from my wanted to buy post. Awesome packing job and shipped fast as well. I cannot wait to complete another transaction soon. The rest of you should stay away though. Ed
  3. Posted some nice GA groups (All-Star, Horror, Detective, and Batman) in the Comic General thread if anyone is interested in checking them out.
  4. It was an intentional Freudian slip as that is what I got.
  5. I do believe that in some, if not many instances, that there is an initial good faith desire to sell or purchase the comics; however, unforeseen circumstances happen. Where I separate the "wheat from the shaft" are for those individuals that just disappear without any communication at all. Just tell me you are dealing with something important, circumstances have changed, etc. and we can both find a way to move on. It is the eternal "holding patterns" created that stress you out. You want to believe they are not really (fill in the blanks- a crook, rip-off, lazy, self-centered, ) so you waste even more time patiently waiting for the money or the books trhat never appears. Having said that, I am formally nominating Tony Saylor (Webhead1981) to the Probation List having met the 72 hour notification period and having not received any replies to any of my communication attempts over the past month. Ed Tony agreed to buy my comics and then immediately stopped reading his PMs. I kind of doubt that something insane happened over the course of 4 minutes. Abduction by aliens maybe. Ryan, What day did he stop reading your posts. He was posting on the Boards until August 14th and then nothing after that including reading my threads but he was active until the 14th. He had told me his wife was expecting a baby which is why he was selling. My deal for him to sell was August 1st; when did he agree to purchase from you?

  7. No replies to my PM notifying Tony of PL nomination. I would think I have covered all the requirements at this point so it is up to the membership as to next steps- correct? Ed
  8. Not the first to stretch himself thin due to all the comic book eye candy that pops up. But you have to have the money to back it up at some point. He had $1250 of my money on August 1st so he had the money at that point. He was posting on the Boards as late as August 14th.
  9. Ed, Sorry to hear that you are having trouble. I remember him because I had him placed on the Probation list about one year ago for failure to pay for an ASM 238. After being placed on the list, he finally completed the transaction and was removed from the PL. Too bad he is back to his shenanigans I am generally into second chances but it seems he has now had his. I held out hope that he just had some personal things going on and that he would eventually get back to me. While that could still be the case, it was too much money to keep waiting. I suppose he can always resurface and try to make amends but that is his concern now; not mine.
  10. I have sent him a PM as required. PLMK if it needs to be posted here as well.
  11. Do I need to post the PM in this thread as validation it has been done or just send it to him?
  12. He has not responded to any contact from me (PMs and emails) for over 30 days nor did he respond to several emails from Paypal on the claim. If you are saying that as a formality, I have to send another PM after he would not even respond to a $1250 claim, then I guess I can do that.
  13. I am nominating Webhead1981 (Tony Saylor) to the probation list. I paid for a large group of books on August 1 (two previous transactions with Tony went fine) but I had not heard anything from him since the payment. He did not respond to PMs or regular email and has not posted on the Boards since the 14th. I opened a Paypal dispute/claim on August 25th to which Tony never responded. As a result, i was credited with a refund today. I am not sure what else might be required but Tony has had ample opportunity to respond to this over the past 30+ days. I also found out that another board member had problems with Tony some time ago and he has agreed to post here as well. Ed R
  14. It shouldn't be all that confusing. If you say "I'll take it" then you're on the hook. If you reneg, the seller is free to bring it up here and eventually put you on the PL. To get off, you have to work it out with the seller. If the seller doesn't want to work it out...well, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Per our PM discussion, Hector has agreed to mail a check next Friday for the ASM 121. I will update this thread to let all know once resolved. Ed Glad to report that Hector paid as promised and the book is on the way. I would consider the matter closed from my perspective. Ed R

  16. As far as I am concerned, I move on quickly as there are plenty of buyers in the pool who come with minimal baggage so I will not be nominating him. I think posting the details here provides members with enough information to proceed with any future transactions with at least some degree of caution. I guess I am open to differing opinions though. Ed
  17. By the way, that was a great summary as well. (thumbs u
  18. Hey Ed, thanks for providing the detail around the aborted transaction. Hope you didn't take my request as any sort of doubt/criticism, just a desire for details, which always help in these cases. Facts: June 11: You two agreed to a deal for an ASM 121 & ASM300 Jun 17: Second confirmation of payment being enroute. July 5: You graciously reduced the deal to just the ASM121 July 5: In the same conversation he asks about adding some other books to the order and you give him an updated price total on those books (including the ASM 121). July 9: He back out of the whole transaction. So he basically takes your ASM 121 & ASM 300 out of circulation for a month (Jun 11-July 9) when you could have sold it, listed it, or had it at shows. I think you can totally nominate him since the 30 days have passed both for the Initial agreement (June 11) and even your reduced deal for just the ASM 121. I think the subsequent books (H4H and others) were never agreed to (he expressed interest, you gave him the price, he declined), but the earlier deals should stand the scrutiny of PL worthiness. PM him that he's been nominated for the PL, and point him to this thread. He has 72 hrs to respond in kind and state his side of things. One question is: What does jsilverjanet need to do to "make things right" with you? (And that's between you and jsilver) It's just that the PL nominee needs a path to get off the list, even if that's simply "complete the transaction that you agreed to"... until he does that he shouldn't be buying anyone else's books on here, thus the purpose of the PL. My intent was to share that I did not consider the type of issue (not the same one) to be isolated, especially when you look at the type of books he pursues via WTB threads and now sales threads. I would have no desire to deal with him again as it goes to longer term credibility and I have plenty of buyers who would buy any of the books he was offered. As such, consider this a strong "heads up" to members (many of whom may be perfectly comfortable dealing with him.
  19. Thanks Roy! Hope the Conventions are treating you well.
  20. This scenario sounds like it might qualify for PL nomination proceedings...am I right? Depends on how definitive both parties were in the transaction. When this stuff goes to PMs it gets a lot greyer than marketplace listings of Seller: Here's book X for $500 Buyer "I'll take it" In PMs wording gets far vauger "great book" "would love to have it" "let me see what I can do" blah blah blah... We'd need ROBOCard to post specifics of their PM thread to see if its a definitive deal. Our first transaction was face-to-face. The rest of the dialogue was via text. He inquired about specific books he had seen to see if they were still available and at what price. I gave him prices on several books and his text reply on June 11th was "I would like to buy it (ASM 300-9.8) and the 121 (9.0). Would it be via paypal or check/mo?" I replied MO or check and supplied my address. On June 11th, I texted that I would be leaving for Ohio on the 18th and that if the check came by the 17th, I would mail the books; otherwise, I would mail them when I returned on July 2nd. His text reply on June 17th was in paraphase- No worries- sorry I have been busy and will send the check this week-end. You can send the books when you return. July 5th- I text :no check ; still buying?" He replies that he had to spend money on a car purchase but is still interested in both books; however, he can probably only afford the ASM 121 at this time. I reply with a price for the ASM 121 only. He mentions he is interested in a few other books including HFH 1. I reply that I have one for $60 with a revised total. July 7th- I ask if he wants both or just the ASM 121. July 9th- he replies that "someone offered him an Iron Man #1 graded 9.0 for $825. I am sorry but the offer is too good to pass up so I am going to pass on the ASM." I reply "Not Cool. I hold two books for a month and you back out and buy from someone else. Works great for you but not for me. Hope he has lots of nice books like I do cause I do not do business this way with anyone." Never heard another word from him but stumbled on to his calling me a jerk (not by name but location) in another thread. I reviewed his posts to see what else he was saying and found this thread. I debated posting but there are enough similarities in the deals that I thought it was warranted. I am not sure what the criteria is for the PL but those are the facts. Ed
  21. I would guess you are pretty accurate. I might add that the GA buyers tend to be a little more seasoned (and yes, older) and came from a generation when your word and commitment were and still are synonymous. An over generalization to some degree but based on my encounters at Cons, etc. fairly true.
  22. Hey, good point! Way to go guys! We should just lock this thread right now and end on a high note. Sorry to have potentially rekindled the flames, but there seems to be a pattern of sorts and wanted other members to at least have the information prior to conducting future business.
  23. I have not been on the Boards much lately as I have spent most of June and July with my family. I happened to click on the Graham crackers thread and see a post from the buyer referring to me (not by name) as a jerk. Some of you know me and know that I do not post much and never anything inflammatory, but after reading some of the posts here, I think Branget is spot on with why the buyer was looking to back out. He committed to buying in early June my ASM 300-9.8 and 121-9.0. I waited around ten days but no check so I texted him that I would be in Ohio for two weeks and would mail the books once I got back assuming the check would come while I was gone. I return in early July- no check so I text him. He says sorry but he can only buy the ASM 121 now. I give him the price for that book plus a raw Hero for Hire he asked about. I wait two days with no response and text again. He says sorry but someone offered him an Iron Man 1-9.0 for a great price so he will have to pass on my books. I texted back that this was not cool as I had held books for two months and now he was just backing out of the deal. I also told him that I hoped his seller had lots of other nice books because I do not do business that way with anyone. For that, I am a jerk. My sense is he likes to play the "flip game" and when the market trends down he looks for ways to bail. As I said already- "Not Cool". Seller beware and also know that I never delete my text messages in cases of revisionist history. I am also not a jerk. Ed Robertson So he likes negotiating and buying books through PMs, that way there is no visible "paper trail" when issues arise. There is a "text trail" for mine.
