Sadly, I strongly suspect there are posters who do all they can to be on the leaderboard. So much so, that they check it numerous times a day to see their progress and try to post things that elicit likes.
Others are on the leaderboard the natural way. They post things that people enjoy.
One of them allegedly just quit the boards, I guess there goes that spot on the leaderboard.

I agree to an extent but like October said awhile ago - a good con becomes a great con depending if you are the first person to looks through the right long box. I've looked at a box right after another guy looked through it and found some nice stuff but that was because the early guys tend to concentrate on the home run, low hanging fruit. There are always deals to be had but I think we can all agree that your chances go way up if you get in early and look through boxes before the crowds.
That's a given. I'm just refuting that "all the good stuff is gone" before the con opens for regular hours.

I think it really comes down to what is your definition of "good stuff". I was at two cons outside Detroit this weekend and the first I couldn't get over there until the doors had opened to the public and it was a great buying con for me. But I had to buy a grand worth of books to get a local collector to give me a 50% discount on his stuff or it would not have been a great show for me. The 2nd show I got in really early and it was like a pack of wild animals attacking a wounded deer in terms of the dealers rummaging through all the long boxes hours before the show opened. I did ok at that show but if I would have arrived late it would have been a bad buying show for me. Really depends on who is there and if you only want the new hot book that is still sitting in the $2 boxes then you better get there early of it will be gone.
I've been getting into shows early for years now and I always...always find good stuff every day during normal show hours. If you're willing to look, you can find stuff.

Isn't that every show? Why do they even have shows anymore if all the good stuff is gone already?
It's not true. When I've gone to Baltimore I've found plenty of stuff to buy after the show has opened to the public. I've bought stuff on Sundays before leaving for the airport.
It's true a ton of stuff is sold before the public gets a chance, but not all the good stuff.

Reminder for Dylan.
Being in the HOS does not ban you from the forum and does not ban you from buying or selling on this forum.
Yes, he can carry on the long term tradition of other HoS members buying and selling behind the scenes, because when it comes to money and Cool Books™ who cares right?
The fun part will be if he openly brags about it as others have done in the past.

Polansky broke no forum selling rules.
Dylan admitted Poloansky broke no forum selling rules.
Dylan got angry and started a thread nominating Polansky for the Probation List to harm his selling reputation for the simple reason that he was angry with him for not selling him a book he wanted.
This would be the VERY DEFINITION of interfering with someone's business.
As for what you are talking about......well......I have no idea what your are talking about.
He may not have physically interfered with someone's business, but starting a probation thread about a person could potentially damage their business reputation...this is not a large community and word gets around.
The fact he started that probation thread purely out of spite is yet another strike against him IMHO.

As mentioned previously......I absolutely am not going to take any of Dylans nonsense. I was willing to try help him present any evidence he might have. He has declined to provide any. So, I sent the following reply to Dylan.
Dylan,You're semantics are a bunch of hooey. And I have yet to see you be right about anything....ever.I was willing to help you present any evidence you might have, but you broke the rules. Under section 37b of the contract signed by you, it states quite clearly that all offers shall become null and void if - and you can read it for yourself in the attached photostatic copy - "I, the undersigned, shall forfeit all rights, privileges and licenses herein and herein contained," et cetera, et cetera..."Fax mentis incendium gloria cultum," et cetera, et cetera...."Memo bis punitor delicatum!" It's all there, black and white, clear as crystal! You stole fizzy lifting drinks! You bumped into the ceiling which now has to be washed and sterilized, so you get nothing! You lose! Good day, sir!Now please cease and desist with all further contact.....unless you'd like to call my phone 50 times in the next 10 minutes.....that would be acceptable.Have a pleasant nightP.S.Call me.Don't tempt fate

I received the following email from Dylan to post in the thread.
Furthermore, my semantics are so valid that you can't even make a valid response to them. You're afraid to because you know I'm right. Please do not contact me again unless you're interested in buying/selling or are 100% willing to represent my voice."Justice delayed is justice denied"-DylanUnfortunately this character isn't the first to act this way and won't be the last
If one wants to be a big time comic book dealer, they can't act small time.

No. It's an attempt to appear calm and logical and argue based on reason without any facts or reason. There's nothing of substance in that entire post.
His response doesn't change the fact he went all fatal attraction on the guy.
Harassment should be verboten, no excuse.

Man you are one piece of work. Okay I retract the statement, but I was just kidding with. I am sure that everyone reading this knows that I was kidding with you.
I didn't know and I didn't appreciate it.
I retract my thank you for your retraction as it's obvious it wasn't sincere. Easier to just put you on ignore

Sometimes I think you're Stu.🤔
Since we don't have any relationship, let alone one where we can joke around with each other, I would ask you to retract that.

I will just say 1 was definitely Stu, and the jury is still out on the other one.
Sussing out Stu is a simple 3 step process.
1) Engage him in small talk.
2) Mention you're friends with Borock
3) Say that Alan Moore is the most overrated writer in the history of comic books.

Why not respond as soon as you saw the offer instead of waiting for an hour? Would you have waited even longer? Nothing weird about it. Buyer wanted the book. You didn't respond. Good for you. Not so good for him.
I do not remember the context from this 4 year old quote
I've been here since 2009, you couldn't find anything older to respond to?

Winner of an auction item and messaged me asking if they could pay on November 3rd which I agreed to. No payment was made and I messaged buyer asking if they needed more time and received no response. Had to submit a non payment case which I easily won.

Just hearing about this now and it's very sad news indeed.
Bob was one of the first boardies I met in person and I always enjoyed seeing him and talking to him. Like many who have met me in person he really liked my wife a lot.
We will both miss seeing him at local shows.
RIP

I did lead holders for a while-def better than #2 or any pencil that needs sharpening but a 0.5 mechanical is a sharp point all the time.
I personally found I could get a better line variation using the lead holder and a finer point if needed.

Just now, kav said:
you still gotta sharpen a lead holder lead. messy. Time consuming.
It's also better IMHO
I hated using mechanical pencils and quickly moved away from them...but then again I was never published in MAD so what do I know.

plus they use a regular #2 pencil-WTF
Byrne uses a lead holder.
He has used several different tools including mechanical pencils and regular old Faber Castell, but he went back to the lead holder.

Really? I would easily take Miller over Byrne as the greatest writer/artist of that era. By far.
6 of one, half dozen of the other.
I love Miller's DD run, but I also love Byrne's FF and Alpha Flight.
Different flavors but both excellent. I'm glad I can enjoy them both and not have to choose
