But what if the buyer doesnt and goes ballistic?

In the original scenario the buyer was a dope. I'm sorry to be so blunt but if you buy a raw 9.8 and it comes back a 9.6 it is what it is and should've been the end of it.

If the buyer had paid for a 9.6 raw and it came back a 9.8 he wouldn't complain right?

Those of us who regularly get books slabbed have seen countless examples of 9.6's sitting in 9.8 holders and 9.8's sitting in 9.6 holders.

Ebay NM++ 9.8 pictures for sure.

If you're selling high grade books on ebay SCAN THEM....'Nuff Said.

I'm completely at a loss for sellers with  cell phone pictures of raw books...slabs so so...its a slabbed book..raw books..never.......especially boardies selling 9.8s

I don't think I've ever bought a HG raw book off eBay that had semi blurry cell phone pics, but  I know people who have and have hit a jackpot.

I'm not comfortable throwing my money at a risk like that when there are hundreds of items I can buy that have nice, clear scans.

You stole all my customers

But like Bookery eloquently just said - there is really a ton of variables to this equation.  Did you get in some great collections in 2019 which did great compared to the stuff you had in 2018?  Did you start grading a bunch more books in 2019 that where home runs?  2018 was just a phenomenal year for me so maybe the 2019 number was more indicative of the effort I'm putting in.  I do know 2019 feels like a different market compared to 2018 where the speed of everything seems to be speeding up.  We will see how 2020 goes but so far its looking good.

I killed it on the movie hype, I had the right books graded and ready to go when the announcements hit at SDCC.

Great news.  What do you contribute to your success year?  Finding a plethora of keys - modern books - great year for finding dirt cheap books on e-bay for a quick flip?

I just checked and my sales were down 40% in 2019 compared to 2018.  2018 was my best year by far so that is a tough bar to shoot for but I was kind of shocked by the 40% drop off.  Bigger keys have been tougher to come by and people seem to be a LOT cheaper when it comes to buying books on e-bay and the Canadian buyers have pretty well dried up due to shipping cost and drop in their dollar which I contribute to the large decline.  2020 has started out well and hopefully it will be a bumper year.

That's odd, my sales were up 37% from 2018-2019 (shrug)

He may have screwed himself then jumping the gun and opening case without contacting you first-you seemed to indicate you wouldnt mind just refunding to him.

If he had just asked me I probably would've and not even thought about contacting eBay as I was not aware of their policy.

I have been on the other end.  I once bought a small group of comics (about 5), including a mid grade ASM 135.  A week later, it showed as delivered.  It was never delivered.  I wondered what to do because it wasn't the sellers fault.  The post office was NO help, as they show it as delivered so no harm no foul.      In the end I just let it go because I knew I wouldn't win.

This is why I was a bit apprehensive about it, but when I called eBay I didn't even ask them to close the case they just told me flat out it was closed in my favor because it was marked as delivered.

  7. I recently sold a book on eBay and the tracking shows it was delivered yesterday. The buyer has opened a case against me and basically said that while he doesn't blame me, he wants it on record with eBay. My first inclination is to just give a full refund as I would prefer to believe that the buyer isn't up to any shenanigans. Technically I don't have to give him a refund since it shows that it was delivered, but I know how I would feel if I were the buyer and I hate it when a seller tells me " sorry, not my fault".

Just curious how others would handle this situation.

What size box are you using? I was shipping all sorts of sizes for $11 with USPS Priority but now the prices have doubled for me.

I use a double box method, it's a USPS  Priority Mail Box 1092 inside a PMB 1095.  With bubble wrap it's about 2 lbs for a single slab and depending on the shipping zone it's a little over $7 to almost $11. $7 would be near me, $11 would be California, New York is a bit over $9.

  9. If you're shipping from the CON US in the CON US it shouldn't cost more than $10-$11 if you're shipping to the furthest zones from you. I use the free priority boxes the USPS supplies and buy my own bubble wrap. Generally the cost of shipping a single slab using that method through eBay costs me between $7-$9 via USPS Priority.

I've been curious what others think now that they've had a couple more weeks to live with it. Anyone else have an updated opinion?

I used it recently in "combat" conditions for the first time and it really emphasized how slow and clunky it is now. On my PC at home using it as I browse through eBay it's not as noticeably bad as it is out in the field on my mobile device 2c

Dude, invite him here!  Sounds like top notch entertainment.

You don't know the half of it, he kept messaging me all afternoon with the weirdest stuff. First he called me a horrible person and and then he started asking me if I thought he got a good deal on a book he bought lol

Not sure what that' supposed to mean.

Addressing your previous post... of course its perfectly ok to offer constructive criticism for a product you pay for. I didn't suggest otherwise. I just asked for a little slack mostly relating to the harsher toned comments and also criticisms that were not even GPA's fault. One friend complained he didn't get his password change email and no contacts after several contacts... only to find out he changed his email and forgot, so yeah... he didn't get the email. I just helped him get in touch with George and it was fixed immediately. Also, some people got very nasty and he's my friend. So, I don't like it. Much of the good feedback here is going to be either implemented or considered. That shows some dedication to what the customer wants I think.

Edit: I did indeed suggest the people stealing it should STFU.

I understand you wanting to help a friend out here, not the way I would've done it but I understand it.

It's also OK to listen to the customer and not all change is for the better. My two favorite examples are New Coke and Microsoft removing the start button from Windows.
