Alright, I see a lot of interesting responses that are slightly off subject. In time, I think I can appreciate that. I kind of do already.
As it stands now, Metropolis sold me a comic book without disclosing major foxing and a bit of staple rust. In fact, they somewhat over-graded.
I believe that I am now a member of photobucket.
I am not technologically skillful, but I will somehow upload the image for you.
here come the back peddling....next it will be, "I understand grading is somewhat subjective"...and conclude in "my grading skill is asstrocious"
-
Let me see if I have this straight:
1) You contacted Metropolis to buy a book.
2) You don't ask for a scan of said book, even though you see it's just a stock picture.
3) You then receive said book, and disagree with the grade.
4) They offer a refund, but you really want to keep the book, despite it upsetting you enough to come here and complain about it.
5) Now you start a thread to complain about the grading of a book, despite the fact that it couldn't be so bad since you are going to keep it.
Are you serious?
I mean, this is just completely and abjectly stupid on the buyer's part. You were lazy or careless in not asking for a scan, we have no idea what the book looks like, and now you are here demanding a response from Metro.
I'd rather jump off a cliff than be a full time dealer and deal with like this.
you left out the $10 shipping cost of returning the book

this copy is an outlier in that it looks to have perfect centering and sharp corners. There aren't many visible flaws so who knows if one or 2 or more people are going after this book as a potential 9.6
-
his "dozens in hands" have the same defect
-
i am guessing the cost of slabbing isn't worth it for most people more so than rarity. I bet if you post WTB raw 9.8, you might get a few offers.
-
nice X-men #40....sharp looking book (thumbs u
As I am sitting here grading and scanning the next batch of book to sell tomorrow. I wrestled with 2 books for a while and decided they are keepers..off the hook nice and I just can't part with them.
the TOT 90 has a tiny spot of stain on the bc but it is just so nice to keep in Mylar to look at.

Was it for stupid, crazy, outrageous, unthinkable, laughable, ludicrous, coco puff, insane, how dare you asked for that price kind of price?
Very nice book and I am sure the owner will be thrill (thumbs u
-
Dan W, thanks for buying my books and slabs (thumbs u
-
yup. A bad role of paper can give a book bad PQ right off the bat on some books. I have bought a large collection in the past with 99% white and a few ow and cream in there. They were all bought and stored together so there is a small variant in the PQ from production.
-
Robojo33 sells slabs too and many boycott doing business with him regardless if the book is raw or slab. Same with me for this guy...don't care what he has to offer.
Sadly as long as enough people keep buying from these types of sellers...eBay will thrive
-
While it is more likely to get a pq bump with an old label... It is not impossible to get a pq bump in newer slab.

Gorgeous copy
What year was this graded?
I would take this perfect centered cr/ow over a crooked miswrap white

So does Doug's X-Men #1 9.4 White page sale for $137K count?
Since the list is getting real long, I decided to update the list with just CL transactions since Pedigree, Ha and Ebay can be found with GPA.
-
because the seller is one of the biggest douchnozzle on Ebay.
-
concerns on my part?
just answering a question that is all.
as far as speculation if that one old label still exist, I doubt it if it can be upgraded.
-
shhh.....you are letting out the secrets
-
I might be wrong but CGC changed label around October 2003? according to census, the highest and only 9.6 was graded in July 2003 so if that book hasn't been cracked/pressed and resub, then there is only one old label 9.6 in existence.
-
Spiderturtle was the seller and owner of that copy.
-
Looks like a new 9.4 just got graded.
crazy..a year ago we had 7 copies of 9.4, now it its 12 copies.
-
i believe 2 of the recent 9.8 were pressed up from 9.6...simple deduction of 2 less 9.6 in the census and 2 more 9.8 in the census.
-
What the hell did I just click into?
+1
run as fast as you can.
this is my give back to the "community"
-
GPA has it at $675
I thought it was a 9.2
that is a hell of a nice book...x-men 50 is tough to find in 9.4 or better with nice PQ
