  1. CL auctioned more X-men #1 than just about any other places combined, especially for 8.0 and above, thus the reason why I started this thread 2 years ago to fill in the "gap" that GPA left out.

this new 9.2 copy was the 9.0 that was on Pedigree for $24k last year. I think this copy can go for $48k. You wonder why people pressed?

  3. I regret to be the underbidder for that book when it was a 9.0 :tonofbricks:

I didn't go strong on it because the green color was kind of wonky on the book and emailed a few boardies about that issue.

When the census showed a disappearing of a 9.0 and a new 9.2, I had a strong hunch that it was this copy.

Ah - so glad I ask the board these things. I didn't even notice! You're right - what's with those greens?? So you're saying the was a 9.0 that got re-subbed and got a 9.2?

This is very interesting - go back 3 pages and take another look at my raw copy, it has the same greens as this 9.2. :o

but who's to say which are the "right" greens? is it the popular conception that your copy (nice btw) and this 9.2's greens are indeed "wonky"?

I've gone back thru this thread and would have to say that the darker green seems to show up more BUT the Pacific Coast 9.6 with W pages is "Wonky Green" as well (pg 37 in this thread)... :acclaim::applause: Thank God...

I do think your copy is a 9.0 also and if you ever want to part with it, send me a PM. I promised I won't flip it on Ebay right away

cracked, pressed, and resub are likely here. As far as the green, darker green is the more common of the two but for sure, the lighter green is not "wonky" as I thought back when I first saw this book as a 9.0

Had I did a little more research, I would have bid higher back then. I was just a little hesitant on bidding it up at the time because I wasn't so sure about the shade of green.

  6. just a warning that if anyone here win that book, make sure you asked for double box shipment from that seller and insurance. Last year, I won a slab and it was shipped not double boxed and not insured. The box arrived with a cracked slab and I contacted him right away and complained about the not so great packing job. I got a reply that was basically "mess happens and here is $11 for your trouble". Was that sufficient? If it was me, I would have refunded shipping cost as well because my slab ain't walking to CGC by itself.

I could have make a bigger stink about it but I moved on and kept a mental note of the incident. I debated about leaving a neutral feedback but in the end, not leaving any feedbacks was my decision.

  7. without any hard evidences like one I saw in the bc, I can't say with certainty.

I had a X-men 120 with horizontal black line across the entire front cover, likely printer roller related and the book got a 9.4 with other flaws that could have kept it any higher. Visually, it wasn't appealing but CGC didn't ding it...at least not much in that case.

I am guessing that CGC might not ding the Non Player as tough as you think they will but it is nothing more than a wag.

  8. I have decided to start buying some books again. I sold almost all of my BA Horror...and I want it back. :sumo:

    +1 :tonofbricks:

And it has begun. Replaced a BA horror book with a copy from the CLink auction. Upgraded my previous 9.2 ow/w to a 9.6 w. Will post it once the book is in hand. :)

is it the HOM 204? I think that was the nicest looking book at the last CL auction. Perfect centering with white PQ. I didn't bid but that was the book for me if I was going for one horror book at that auction.

  9. How long has 2 9.8's been on the census?

The first 9.8 was slabbed in 2001? and the 2nd in 2004

the census has increased significantly for 8.5 and up

2 years ago, there were 6 copies at 9.4, now there are freaking 12 copies. Is it a wonder that the last two slabbed 9.4 couldn't crack $100k?

no doubt some of those additional 6 copies of 9.4 are 9.2 and 9.0 books that have been pressed up.

the census showed a decline of 15 copies of 9.0 to 12 copies of 9.0 over the same time the 9.4 jumped by 6 copies.

the 9.2 also see a declined from 14 to 12 copies over the same time frame.

as big of an X-men fan as I am having a complete run from 2 to 143, I am happy to wait for a nice copy that dances to my eyes before I own another #1

  11. seriously

    a) there are a hell of a lot of people on this board that care nothing but the upper left number on the label.

    b) there are a hell of a lot of people that don't care where the books came from. Old label CPR, newly discovered books from someone's basement, etc..

    c) there are some good detectives on this board that will research a book before they buy or interested in for whatever reasons.

    d) You have a very good eyes for upgradeable books as well as having the balls to role the dice on resub them pressed or not.

If a buyer that bought your books before and don't care about the history, none of this matter because the all mighty top left number is all that matter.

We have seen countless people over the years got chastise for trying to flip a book for a quick profit when prior sale record just weeks if not days existed on Heritage or CL so it is the reality of flipping and the potential headaches selling here.

  12. Lets leave Dan or any sellers out of the specific but in general just so I am clear about the debates here in the past couple of days. Outside of Bob and a few people, the majority seem to be ok with

cracking a Pedigree slab, press it or not but resub it without the old label for whatever reason is ok

whether it is an intent (not retaining the Pedigree) or not on disclosure of a press.

  13. updated...I no longer update the list with Pedigree or Ha auctions since they are in GPA. The list will be revised with just CL activities since those are not reported to GPA and the list will provide a nice comparison.

i am willing to bet that 6.5 won't stay as 6.5 long. I think it will resurface shortly as a 7.0 ow after some cpr.

as far as the 9.4 didn't crack $100k, lets see how the next 9.4 do. One book doesn't say much about future trend....just as the $137k 9.4 white copy that Doug sold. White page is very rare with X-men #1.

That being said...2 years ago, we had 6 9.4 slabs and then starting from the Mound copy, census has increased to 12...freaking 12 9.4 books...is there another mega Silver age keys with SO MANY uber high grade books?

It is remarkable that when I bought my 8.5 copy way back in 2003, there were 37 total copies from 8.5 to 9.8. Fast forward 8 years, and now we have 78 copies from 8.5 to 9.8.....more than double.
