I think he meant the Marvel Team Up with Spider-Man and Invincible- I assume the reason was that Marvel didn't need to put the logo since he owned the character and gave his permission, and Image had nothing to do with the final product. Unless I'm mistaken about what we're talking about- we need to start listing the comic when replying to quotes from pages ago.

I am talking about the same book as well, before Kirkman was made a partner at Image he was able to do crossovers and do work for other companies. As an example he did a run on Ultimate X-Men. Once he became a partner, I believe he was not longer able to do work for other companies or do crossovers even though he owned the character.

But those are one of ones, completely unique items, like artwork.  If you want the original artwork for Wolverine's first appearance, there is ONLY one copy, so it goes for the big money.  GS X-Men and the like were mass produced in large quantities.  There are 10,000 copies in the CGC census alone, how many copies are in the wild?  There are 2,000 copies above 9.0.  These are not rare books.  Is there THAT much demand? Across all grades?  Maybe there will be an even bigger stratification between 9.8s and 9.6s, etc. (investment grade) and the lower grades.  Are people going to pay $7K for a 2.0?  I'm not saying it cannot happen, but how probable is it.

I think the standard, at least for me, was to get Bronze Age books in at least 9.4 or better as they were new enough to be available in mid to lower grades and a 9.4 generally didn't break the bank but was still nice enough of a grade for that age. With that being said, there are roughly 1107 copies in the CGC census that are 9.4 and above for a book that is a mega key of that age, which is not really that many consider the book has been a known key for nearly 4 decades.  I do not think the prices will last on lower grade copies but again just my opinion. Also I think the MCU has opened up a lot of books to buyers outside the USA which has increased demand and prices, especially for auction houses willing to ship outside the USA.

  3. I am a bit out of the loop on the convo only reading back a few pages, but X94 was generally more expensive than GSX1 because of difficulty to find in NM or better, with a nice wrap, and white pages Back in 2009 or 2010 when I purchased both of them, I paid nearly $800 or $900 more for the 94 as it was much more difficult to find in CGC 9.4 than the GSX1. Once pressing became more mainstream, that changed the tide to GSX1.

    Most current census:

    X-Men #94 CGC 9.4 263

    Giant Size X-Men #1 CGC 9.4 547

Now there are more collectors who collect keys, than collecting runs, which has hurt the 94 value.

  4. Good Morning Everyone, I have a very sharp Captain Britain #1 that I was thinking of sending in to CGC. I do have a question that hopefully someone can help me with. Is the mask supposed to be bound into the issue or was it just placed inside somewhere? Mine is not bound into the book and do not want to send in if it will get a qualified label. Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

I don't pass up books in the late 90s or early 2000s in great shape from a
strong selling title. The print runs are nothing and collectors will go back
    for them.

There were a lot of great books from the late 90's/early 2000's Planetary, The Authority, Ultimate Spiderman, Ultimate's, and I thought most of the Crossgen titles were pretty good as well.

Is there a reason why you listed the Virgin Variant for half the price of this cover? There are only 100 copies of the virgin variant versus 500 of these.  By the by, $200 seems a bit high, I’ve seen these go closer to $50. But hey...... shoot for the sky

With all due respect, that is why I asked for a value as I have no idea of what they are worth. There was a recent sale of the other variant with no recent sales or any listed of the 500 variant.

After watching an X-Men 1 8.0 set a new high water mark on Heritage this weekend I got to thinking about which auction house offers the best return for sellers, specifically for higher dollar silver age books.  I tend to sell on ebay for lower valued slabs but in the event I ever sell the five figured books I'm wondering who regularly realizes the highest prices after commissions?

What did the X-Men #1 go for?
