i got a psa slab today in the mail tatis jr rc, bounces around like crazy not happy being its a short print card,  i got a few csg slabs card is snug n solid, i bought an 87 jordan csg slab when csg first started i been a fan of csg since, the way the card sits in the case, super clear and feels heavier been a fan ever since, the jordan was a csg 7 wit subs I thought it was graded harsh but fair as a buyer I was happy, sharp 87 jordan for cheap in an awsome case, ill take it!! i could crack it n get a psa 8 or maybe 9 but i like it in a csg case for my pc

This is crazy, and I know I am not alone here, but hear me out.

I was a faithful SGC submitter, and when I started they were $8 per card in a submission group bulk rate.

PSA was having turnaround time problems for over a year and SGC decided to up its game, hire more graders and improve turnaround times. They did, until the grading part of the hobby exploded to all-time high levels, exceeding the JUnk Era levels. SGC had egg on their face after bragging in their marketing about their turnaround times, while at same time poking fun at PSA.

And they upped their bulk rates to $15 a card. That was fine. It was doable. But then it went to $20 per card for no reason. Then PSA shut down and it went to $75 per card or $35 for bulk rates.

So, I decided to give CSG a shot. I was about to join at the second-tier level when I noticed the April 21 message that because they are seeing an influx of new submissions they, too, are increasing their prices. Mind you, this company is barely out of the box and its reputation is still to be determined. And the bright green labels ...

But for $8 per card bulk, I was ready to give it a solid shot and give them a full year. But the price is now $12 a card. And CSG isn't exactly bringing top 3 resale prices. I am not even sure they are above GMA.

This is no knock on CSG; I have no experience with this company. But why is the response to increase fees? Because you hired more graders? Did you really?

If you are getting so many more cards, then that additional revenue and profit should be enough to hire more graders, right? Why are these grading companies alienating the small guys?

If you're worried about adding to your turnaround times (they aren't great for bulk rates) well, this huge influx you mention means how many times are you increasing your profit margins? You had money to hire more graders. Increasing prices might make sense if you reduced the 4 month plus turnaround times for bulk. But you didn't. It's the same service, not guaranteed to get worse, with a 66% price increase. 66%!

Does it make sense to send 100 mid-level cards at $12 a pop, or even worse, $20 a pop, when they are unlikely to bring in $30?

This is frustrating to watch. And I doubt I am going to sign up to your $149 plan. Good luck ya'll.

seems like wuestions for the owner logistical questions of card volume, shipments, payrolls and values of the csg brand slabs could probably only be answered by the owner. Cards n grading definantly a volitile market right now and companies are naturally going to try n make money during this card boom, All it comes down too, Is the service being provided worth the money? depends on what kind of cards your collecting and if your flipping or a more long term collector or is it worth to grade at all, It sounds like your unhappy with grading services across the board you might consider FCG nice slabs, 10$ a card and a promised less then 12 day turn around time there some FCG reveals on youtube

I'm a Duncan collector and like you guys have been frustrated with the turnaround times with PSA and BGS. I have a lot of pending cards with PSA but has sent two batches of cards to CSG. Liking what I see from those who has gotten their cards back. Cant wait for mine and hopefully to start sending more serious cards like the one below. Hopefully, my two trial batches would be just as what I see being shown in youtube and I'll start sending more heat.IMG_6135.thumb.JPG.c782b964ae5317b213ab883d2d31ca80.JPG

nice card ! good stuff same here, gonna start sending some nice cards into csg I seen some good reveals dudes submitting more highend cards to csg, I even made it a point to buy green cards to match csg i like emerald green refractors anyway always serial numbered and a little more affordoble then gold or orange refractors

SGC just went to $75 a card.  You can still do Beckett at $20 or $30 per with no subgrades but you have to wait a year.  What a joke.

sgc 75$ a card standard order? thats insane there gonna end up like curcuit city or quizno's, or blockbuster, I heard psa is coming back with a 10$ bulk order and this raise in price is very temporary but will see even if they do i predict huge backlog with them , hopefully csg stays reasonsble with there prices a major price shift can affect all your current slabs

  5. love the project 70 cards im not sure if they will be worth anything i personally just a bought a few to support the artist, my handle pic is a micky mantle by Ces its a great way to get one of your favorite players hand painted by one of my favorite artist, a value increase would just be a bonus, most cards i buy even for investment have to be aesthetically pleasing a great photo, a classic nostalgic throwback or cool insert or some just an amazing looking set like 86 fleer basketball, 87 topps tiffany, 2008 etopps

Well it would be a CSG 5 and you would have to pay someone to take it from you.

so you would rather buy a csg 5 in a psa 10 case? our we collecting cards or slabs, Its like buying bobo's in a nike box

Biggest problem with CSG right now is that they had insanely low bulk pricing to start, and they were quickly flooded with junk cards. Now that those cards are back and in the market, so the market is primarily junk. For instance I keep an eye out for Ronald Acuna cards on eBay, and so many of the cards that have been hitting have been base 2020, 2021, and Topps Now cards - all cards that are super cheap and super common. Hell there's a Donruss 2021 Unleashed card in a CSG 9 listed for $80! That card is barely worth $1 raw.

That's not to say there aren't awesome cards in CSG cases out there, it's just that they are currently overshadowed by the junk. Once that starts to even out I think you'll see perception in the market change.

In my opinion a fast way to make that happen is to stop offering bulk prices without sub-grades. If the minimum price to grade was $22 you'd stop a lot of the $1 cards from being submitted.

great point I agree, i watched alot of reveals it seems like alot of dudes were afraid to send high value cards initially too, had alot of collecters with sending in wildly_fanciful_statement im bulk to get a feel for the grading but been noticing some of those same guys are starting to send in there good cards, the more good cards in csg slabs will def increase value, i understand gettin nervous sending off a 1000$ card to a new grader but its turning around, i was reluctant to sub big cards but i like what im seeing lately m planning on takin the plunge n subing my best to csg soon

I am 53 years old. I used to collect cards, but I stopped back in the early 90s. Rickey Henderson was my favorite player. I have an amazing 80 Topps rookie, and every single other card he was ever on...ungraded. I also have an amzing Fleer Jordan rookie I acquired before the Bulls ever won a championship. Also ungraded. I have Ryan/Koosman rookie, Yount, Bo, Shaq, and several others that are highly desired. All ungraded.

Utif I'm being honest here, I am scared to trust my card to someone to grade (away from my presence) and risk getting back something other that what I sent in. After all, we are talking about some pretty high end, high dollar collector's pieces here. I see what the high graded cards look like, and skin hasn't touched my cards in years. They're in plexiglass cases in  safe deposit box.

So my question is, do I have to grade them? Is it possible to simply sell them or set up some sort of trust thru an agent and then sell them to a serious collector?

My kids tell me to sell them and enjoy the money. What is your opinion? Thank in advance.

grade the jordan definantly get insured before sending good info on here about insuring cards prior to usps, it will substsntially increase the value but also authenticate it and it will sell! good luck man way to be patient, grade authenticate n cash in!!!

I'm putting together my first grading submission and I'm curious about card cleaning. I've seen YouTube videos of people cleaning their cards with alcohol pads and other things before submitting them. The big thing seems to be removing fingerprints. Is this recommended or would CSG return the cards ungraded?

dont use alcohol its too strong itll eat away at the card, a papertowel or microfiber cloth and sometimes dudes pull off the top layer of foil cards but dont recomend untill you  practiced alot on bad cards

Torn on what to do with these. I have hit a bunch of 10's on these same cards from the same cases I pulled these from. PSA 10s are monsters on Tatis.  I know CSG is tougher grader, haven't seem many Gem 10s.. Love the $50 express vs $300 super express... such a tough call. Anyone grade any of these? Since there is no Pop Report would love to know what grades have been on these. These are not PC, will be 100% resell cards. Any feedback from those that have graded these cards before with CSG.. thanks!

i seen csg 9.6 for these good luck

At the request of CSG customer service, I have provided them with front and back photographs of the Jordan refractor card that they originally graded at a 7.5. I have consulted with numerous people in the sports card grading field, and the consensus is that the card should have graded at an 8.5 or nine. I would be fine with such a grade, but the 7.5 that CSG gave the card is, in my opinion overly strict, especially for a card that is affected in value greatly by the downgrade it received. The difference between the first year Jordan refractor at a 7.5 and that of an 8.5 or nine is potentially thousands of dollars. Ordinarily, I would just take my lumps And be done with it, but there is too much money involved and too many questions as to why it received such a low grade. I’ll keep you posted.

did ya see any other 94 topps finest refractors graded some cards just dont grade well, i think csg is fair but sometimes way to harsh on surface it scares me I got some older refractors i wanna submit that are sharp but dont wanna get hit that hard on a surface issue no one can see, i think every grading company your gonna have to crack a case and send it out again ha but its a beautiful card n looks great in that slab goodluck

PSA has diehards and people on the registry. CSG can't afford to have the same backlogs. They don't have the same ROI and customers that used them for decades that will be patient with them. Sure there are a few CGC fanboys that will cut them slack, but that is not the majority if submitters. The majority of people who submitted with CSG did it because it was cheap and they thought they would get back their cards in a relatively quick turnaround time. I can already see the frustration on forums and twitter. People did not expect a 1 year turnaround time when they submitted at the stated 60 days bulk.

your right they cant afford the back log of psa when psa is giving out 70% 10s with the highest resell value but most of the csg forum complaints are from 2/21 to 9/21 when psa, bgs shut down, csg was gettin crushed with volume, when psa comes back csg's turnarpund times gonna be fast and thats when csg values will go up. If SGC was gonna do anything in the grading world they would have done it by now, dudes use em now cause they have too, but with psa open, csg goin strong Sgc isnt gonna get submissions except for a few die hards who like em for vintage, FGC is a new grader really harsh with nice slabs id watch out for them before sgc or hga but i like the csg slab personally and hope all new graders do well to avoid a psa monopoly forcing us yo pay a ton for grading to get a fair value on our cards

I’m sorry I meant serial number as in 89/100 like the Lebron I posted. SGC puts that right on the front of the card label. Sometimes it’s hard to see the serial number of the card so it’s nice if it’s added to the label.

agree that would be cool i buy lots of serial number cards, its possible sgc puts it in the label cause you cant see the back of there cards in there slab another reason i dont like there slab but even still theres plenty of room on csg flip be cool to see how limited edition your card is on the flip

Well with everyone's comments I guess I must be blind or something, because I absolutely never saw the info about the $100 insurance offered. Until a claims rep sent me a link to a page I'd never seen before.  But luckily that may be a moot point, because it looks like FedEx may have found the package after 10 days missing I got a text this morning that it was picked up and expected to be out for delivery today. So we will see. And thanks Rufuss for the Collectinsure info, signed up last night.

damn that sux hope they turn up, i would be devastated but wanted to thank you for bringing up this issue something i was always afraid of and i just learned alot ty hope they find your cards

Anyone know the comps on how well the CSG 9.5 do compared to psa 9 or psa10?

i think it depends on the card, i seen csg 9.5's beat psa 10s but also seen a psa 9 double a csg 9.5,  that gap is closing everymonth tho Psa 9's not doing great lately i wouldnt sell a csg 9.5 lower then a psa 9 right now, buyers seem to look past grading companies for an awsome low pop card, check out the jordan rookie comps between csg n psa not much difference at all, but a more common card like brady rc presspass psa almost doubling the value over csg
