  1. I recently bought a midgrade SA slab because it was cheaper in grade than I could find raw for a run I'm putting together, but now that I have it I'm a bit hesitant to try freeing it from its plastic home... any links to a "how-to" vid you can recommend (old CGC case)? My main fear is the plastic somehow splintering and tearing into the book, or the label (which I'd also want to preserve at the back of a Mylar).
  2. Opened up my package from Dale/@frozentundraguy on the weekend and was loving it! I was actually SS to Dale in the holiday exchange so we had already exchanged a few PMs ahead of the raffle and were sharing our mutual appreciation of Silver DC, particularly Superman and Batman titles. While the raffle prize I won from him was technically the Showcase and Flash book, he made a great offering even better by including three bonus Superman SA books and a very cool HG copy of Jungle Comics No. 1 - as I mentioned to him, I absolutely need more Dave Stevens work in my collection! I'm really looking forward to reading the Action 354 "Captain Incredible" story in particular, since for some reason I recall that cover from a DC house ad in some old book I read as a kid and it always stuck with me. Something about the power of Superman's punch that Swan illustrates so beautifully and the complete non-selling of it that annoying kid does is so striking... although now that I'm older, I have to admit my eye tends to wander back to that Stevens cover... Anyhow, thanks again, Dale - truly a great raffle prize!
  3. So better late than never, I *FINALLY* got to open up my SS gift this weekend after being away for a couple weeks with family over the holidays and then turning around and heading out for business the week after that. Needless to say, the wrapping paper was fairly eye-catching... Once I tore in, I was blown away: I had asked for Silver/Bronze mainstream hero books and Phil/@MustEatBrains absolutely nailed his choices. Pics don't really do justice to how nice these books are; the Spidey and DDs look like they're just off the rack. I'm in the middle of a long effort to complete a DD 1-250 run, and all three of these books happen to be ones I'm missing. The TTA 64, especially, is awesome - I've always had a soft-spot for "Big Head" Marvel villains, for some reason, and really enjoy the Leader and Modok. I have two copies of TTA 62 (1st Leader) in okay shape, but this third appearance of his will, like the rest of the books here, stand out as a gem in my assortment of titles from this era. So a big thanks to Phil for this generous gift - really really appreciated!
  4. I would just like to Paul for this thread. Such an assortment of cool books from all over the map, and at great prices, to boot!
  5. And thanks to HJO and HH for organizing this, as always! Truly a great board tradition that's a ton of fun each year.
  6. 61! And this after being quite low on the totem pole last year, too... Ah well, still fun to participate - at the very least I hope my contribution goes before my selection and someone enjoys it!
  7. Form submitted! Lots of amazing options on the list!
  8. Glad everything got to you safe and sound and that you enjoyed the gifts! I picked up the card games as a little add-on because I saw you mention you collected some vintage games in a post a while back... the dealer said he thought they were from the late '40s but wasn't entirely sure. Merry Christmas to everyone! I'm traveling with family for the holidays so won't be able to get to my SS package for a while, yet, but can't wait to check it out because the gifts revealed here have been simply awesome this year!
