This is it exactly. I don't like either scenario being here, but it looks like mystery boxes are here to stay. Properly run, they provide exactly what is described - at least the value tendered, usually more, you just have no idea what you are getting.
Raffles are what they are. They are always run to favor the raffler. It is just gambling, which I love. But at least casinos have gaming commissions looking over their shoulder. Raffles should be shut down by the mods, but if they aren't, the participants should be estopped from complaining when they get hosed.
