  1. And the reverse also holds true, and lots of you are too insulated and somehow believe that when it appears on CGC, it's never been discussed anywhere else. I have seen many cases of "hot books" being discussed elsewhere well before the news hits the CGC forums, then it may even reach comic news outlets, and people on here naively take credit for the sudden price spike. We're not always first with the news, and I think people need to understand that. The real question is, what is your motive for making sure everyone "knows their place"...? I don't think there's anyone who doesn't understand that the CGC boards aren't always first with the news. There is a gulf of difference between the following two statements: "The CGC board is on the cutting edge of the market, and everything posted here is devoured voraciously, with instant and far-reaching implications, before it's ever discussed elsewhere" (which is what you're saying others are saying) and... "The CGC board has influence on the market (to whatever degree), especially in niche areas that have previously gone under the radar." (which is what I have always said.) No one said the CGC board is the end-all, be-all to the market's pulse, but it clearly appears that when someone says something that might suggest ANY amount of influence, and out come the "pipe down, sonny, you're getting too big for your britches" comments. Are people simply incapable of seeing degrees? Is it always all or nothing? (I suspect, for many on these boards, it's always all or nothing.) It is a fact that there are things discussed here that have never been discussed (at least in depth) elsewhere. It is a fact that there are things first discussed elsewhere that eventually make their way here. It is a fact that there are things discussed elsewhere that NEVER make their way here. So, why the endless controversy, as if no one understands those things? The need to talk about something....? People love to talk about the Hulk 377 3rd print, but one of the best jobs the group ever did was putting some knowledge out there that the Sonic newsprint book (if there was indeed ever such a thing) was indistinguishable from the ad version that came stapled in the Superman and JL books. I haven't really checked, but hopefully, people have stopped paying obscene prices for those. If not, shame on them. The information is out there.
  2. I can't wait to start on my SOA book!! Those look great.
  3. I was 10 years old in the 1990's and there's no question which book I'd enjoy more... AF #15 eights days a week. That's why I said "most folks." It's probably nowhere near "most". Spider-Man is insanely popular across kids of all decades. Nostalgia has little to do with when a character made their first appearance. Your opinion is tainted by your spider love.
  4. havent heard anyone who preferred the TMNT actually disparage the AF15 (unless you call saying that the "book is more common" disparaging) Greggy disparaged the AF15. I disparaged low grade books, dumbarse. Pho cue, Kung Fu Wombat.
  5. For people that actually read comics, not so much.
  6. +1 These two books shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath. On the one hand, you have a timeless, iconic character that's in the same league as Batman and Superman in terms of pop cultural awareness, and impact on the entire hobby, in a million dollar book in a comparable grade (9.6), regardless of how many "under copies" of it exist on the census. And on the other, you have a fad book that has been over valued for a very long time, featuring novelty characters from the '80s that should have gone out along with Garbage Pail Kids. But hey, if you like your Turtles, more power to you. No contest there at all. AF 15 all the way baby. (thumbs u -J. In the 80's Spider-man was a fad. TMNT #1 is the AF 15 of the Copper-Age. It ain't going down anytime soon. "Copper Age"..... the most reviled age of comic books. What's your point? -J. That is what Golden Age generation said about the Silver age generation of books. My point is don't be such a tool bag. I'm a copper age Gen X'er and I can be unbiased and say how bad that age of book is, and be objective about it without being a tool bag. If the Turtles is the best of the CA, then all that does is tell you how horrible the CA really is. -J. Man, you are so right. When I think great comics, I don't think about Watchmen, Dark Knight, Jon Sable, Kraven's Last Hunt, Swamp Thing, V for Vendetta, Nexus, Born Again, Killing Joke, or Giffen and Dematteis JLA, I think about Hulk juggling elephants in the circus, Lois Lane falling in love with a sexy alien when purple kryptonite turns Superman super-obese, and Batman and Robin riding a space seesaw to Planet Awkward. ....a few great stories, to be sure. But none of those books are really worth much, are they? This poll originally started off as a "value" question. remember? -J. But what about the most reviled age in history? Are backing off that? Because you should. It is making you look a little special.

  9. Vote for the one that's "got". There is no buyer or seller. If you could "get" one of the two, which would it be? It looks to me that if someone bought a TMNT 1 for say, $8600 and traded it for a 4.0, they may have gotten a 500-600 bump in FMV.
  10. That's a great point. I didn't do an economic analysis, I just chose the one I would rather have. That seemed more interesting than going to GPA and checking the numbers.
  11. What's worthy of mod attention? Judging by the threads he visits, maybe he wants us to get back to telling him which books to find to flip.
  12. While I don't advocate different "ages," there were way too many different things going on to lump all that together. To me there have been three significant "movements" since the end of Copper: (1) Rise of Image, Marvel flood of terrible books, through Bad girl craze and near Implosion (2) Leaner meaner big two including Marvel's 1998-1999 reboots, the re-rise of the writer driven series (Moore's ABC series, Ellis' triumvirate of Planetary, Authority, Transmet, miller's 300 etc), birth of the Ultimate universe (3) re-emergence of Image, New 52, endless Marvel reboots
  13. The Martin County Mafia, aka the Vevay Boys made sure that all the copies got circulated at the same time.
  14. I think this is the point of the whole thing. I would have never brought any of this up had it not been for this. Lance, you are definitely the aggrieved party in all this. You had every right to bring it up, regardless of the highlighted stuff. As I said before, I hope jop gets himself straightened out and makes it right. It will be more complicated now as other Boardies have stepped into the breach. You haven't done anything wrong.
  15. He needs to post and explain...I just PMed him again, I hope he will...but sometimes there are emotional things that people have trouble discussing in an open forum. I don't think he's had transaction problems, and I saw an attempt to be very generous, but sometimes stuff happens. As far as a non transactional list goes, I'd welcome that...can we also make people stand in the corner if they "curse"? . I'm never getting out of the corner. I would also have about 45 months in the f-ing corner.
  16. Sometimes this analysis is right, and sometimes it is wrong. I think what you have been hearing is a lot of people hoping that he will make everything right. I don't know him, but the fact that he can't get to his comics (and possibly his money) is a pretty telling sign that there is real-life trouble in River City. How he responds to this will, in large part, govern how the mob responds. I hope everyone gets what they are supposed to get and that some sort of amicable resolution takes place.
  17. There have been instances in the past where people didn't get their stuff, or someone bailed because their SS was in another country. As appears to be the case here, others have always stepped up. This may be a perfect opportunity to set up a non-sales-transaction bad actor list.
  18. I think we already have the situation in hand, thanks though.
  19. Suggesting your own sketch virtually guarantees it will never get picked.
  20. No worries at all. Count on the same, no matter how much you guys try. I don't know what that means. I'm trying to figure out how I am going to continue to enjoy this place. i'm trying to make sure that I don't have to hear anything that even comes close to me deserving the murder meme. And I'm trying to figure out how worried I should be at the end of the day. I don't have enough energy to tell you what to do. I'm trying to figure out what I should do.
