  1. Plus you can USUALLY find the same comic available directly from mycomicshop.com WITHOUT the Ebay vig. Just gotta dig a bit. That's especially true for slabs....but raws are on consignment and in stock as well. Who would ever buy from MCS? Just. Plain. Nuts. (Oh, and btw, the seller pays the vig on eBay, not the buyer). What's your beef with MCS? More. For. Me.
  2. I culled two copies from the longboxes. I have more 2s than 1s, because, like a dingbat, I convinced myself that #2 was 1st Papa Midnight.
  3. I'm not trying to be mean here, but…good luck. Russ Heath is the only one you are likely to obtain. Jack Davis does not do shows and Marie Severin does not sign at all. Al Jaffee is still out there and I am really looking for a chance to get a couple of books signed by him. Sergio Aragonés is still with us but I don't think he started with Mad until later. Yeah, I totally get it! I pretty much knew that that was the case, but I didn't know Severin doesn't sign at all. Still, I like asking on these boards because you never know what people know... Thanks! I forget who it was now, but someone here almost got a Severin op off of the ground. I believe her family stepped in and shot it down. That's one way if putting it. The other way of putting it is that nice little old ladies who live in nursing homes shouldn't be harassed, and the wishes of her family should be respected without having to resort to the legal system.
  4. Yep, this is a book where you really can't trust the scans to accurately show the condition of the book - I've subbed a ton of Crow books in general and CGC doesn't treat them any differently than any other book from that era. Now ... Primer #2s - that's a different matter. I don't disagree with you guys necessarily, but I think you're being apologists. All of those factors go into the wear and tear on a book. A black book shows defects, yes, but you don't discount them because it's black. I defer to your experience with this issue, but I can't see giving it an inflated grade just because of variations in paper and cover stock. And neither of you addressed my SS comment . . . I try to avoid troll bait these days.
  5. That book is a lot like the Platinum Sandman 50 or Death issues, where there are spine tics, but the combo of the paper and ink makes them look horrific when really they are just there. It is the way the light reflections play on the scanner. Some of the Platinum Deaths look like 5.0s in the scans.
  6. That is great to hear. He was, shall we say, grumpy, at Mid-Ohio several years ago when I met him.
  7. This is it exactly. I don't like either scenario being here, but it looks like mystery boxes are here to stay. Properly run, they provide exactly what is described - at least the value tendered, usually more, you just have no idea what you are getting. Raffles are what they are. They are always run to favor the raffler. It is just gambling, which I love. But at least casinos have gaming commissions looking over their shoulder. Raffles should be shut down by the mods, but if they aren't, the participants should be estopped from complaining when they get hosed.
  8. The Nancy Cartwright book is awesome!!
  9. Chris Evans and Hugo Weaving, along with Stan Lee and Steve Epting.
  10. Some new additions Michael Beck and Deborah Van Valkenberg - One of the my favorite 70's guilty pleasure movies!!
  11. I thought it was insane when I was getting $30 for 9.6-9.8 raw copies. I am down to 2-3 copies left, and I had SCADS of them. This market is the best!!!
  12. Yeah, you are officially a Best of luck in your future endeavors.
  13. To me it is a tempest in a teapot. And I will be the first to tell you, as soon as someone says "It's the principle of the thing," it's time to take hold of your wallet and run the other way. But the bottom line is, if you are going to sell here, you can't go off half cocked, when the right thing to do is posit a simple mea culpa and move on. You do more damage to your rep by being a bull in a china shop than under any other circumstance.
  14. Pro tip: The way to get out of a hole is not to keep digging.
