  1. I did have a brother. We had one of those little hockey games, like the bubble hockey but jankier. It came with a miniature Stanley Cup. I tied an extra long shoelace to the Stanley Cup and whirled it around like a bullroarer - eventually pinning him down and getting the whirling Stanley Cup closer and closer to his face, until the shoelace gave way and the Stanley Cup plowed into his nose at about 95% the speed of sound. His nose exploded like an unpierced hot dog in a microwave. The resulting pool of blood on the carpet caused an extemporaneous re-shuffling of our bedroom furniture. Yes, good times. PS: I just wanted to say "maybe this isn't the thread for you." Because if this were 2013, "maybe this isn't the thread for you" would definitely have become a thing . . .
  2. I 100% remember this!!! I had never read Groo and I tracked several of them down, for cover price. I took them to several shows and was never asked about them, never had anyone look at them, nothing. I ended up thinking it was one of those books that you always heard about that the guide makers intentionally put a typo or a wrong bit of information in to have as evidence if someone grifted their information. In an insane bit of coincidence, I also grew up in Indianapolis.
  3. MHII (if they really do retroactively "re-certify" it as a Pedigree) will be so jacked up that it will be meaningless. And for many it was meaningless already, as it is a warehouse find and has dubious fraudulent origins. But I know of dozens of books that were cracked out of MHII notated slabs, pressed and resubbed with no provenance (because it was no longer recognized). I have to imagine that there were hundreds and hundreds more that received the same treatment. It seems either dumb or like a cash grab, both of which are not outside the realm of possibility.
  4. If you are getting it at a discount to blue label + Adams fee plus slabbing cost AND it is a book you want, the SS is a no brainer. I would almost always take the 9.0 blue however for most books. 6.0 is just going to be too rough for my tastes. The vast majority of my personal Adams SS were 8.5-9.2. You can take your time on Adams SS books, there is a robust supply.
  5. Marvel had another Punisher - some kind of robot that fought Iron Man (I think). I was very disappointed to discover that in the 80's when I was tracking down Frank Castle Punisher appearances.
  6. via Imgflip Meme Generator I wish you had quoted me, so i could have seen this earlier.

  8. I am more successful than Ryan Leaf. But that is not a very high bar.
  9. The ultimate book doesn't exist. It is Sean Connery on an 8.5-9.0 copy of Showcase 43. <End thread>
  10. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's exactly what I did.
  11. As a follow up to this post, I have gotten some pre-1975 9.8s - most of them were warehouse books or known hoard books OMAC 1, Thor 199 for example. But I have also had multiple 20 cent 9.8s including several issues of PLOP!, some DC war books and a couple of Superboys. No keys, and nothing that would really blow anyone's skirt up. I also don't think I have ever gotten a pre-1975 Marvel bronze 9.8
  12. It's the spine split that causes the grade. Leave as is - still very cool!
  13. You have to find out why it is a 4.5. Is it beaten to hell? If so, it may end up in a 4.5 Green label. Experience tells me that the signatures would not put that book at 4.5. Look before you leap. I would probably end up cracking it out before I regraded it. Maybe post a picture of front and back so we can look at it. All things being equal, I would Green label that book, but not in the scenario you have described without seeing it.
  14. Yikes. Well, it was a great idea and I'm sure it is a great book! Ferrigno is special . . .
  15. I'm surprised Ferrigno didn't upcharge you because he did in fact play both characters.
  16. What a great thread and what a great set!! I think a 9.8 Scooby-Doo 1 would challenge the prices of a 35 cent 9.8 SW1 or 9.8 IH 181. Discuss.
