  1. You were in the Todd line with me at WWChicago in 2008 as well. That was a sh*tshow.
  2. None. They all had the same chance over the last 45 years to be the big book, and they are not, nor will they be. End of thread.
  3. If I were there, I would have pushed you down. Suck it.
  4. Thank bud - links suck. I must re-learn my craft apparently. PS. Brian is a playa and a baller.
  5. They just announced this. Your wishes have been granted!!
  6. I'm not sure. Suydam was clearly set up to cash in on the extreme popularity of the Marvel Zombies. He had a huge set up and it was very well visited. I do not begrudge him at all making money on a very popular series. I just thought it was super crass of him. If he had a sign that said autographs $30 or something, then I could have decided about the transaction. But there was no indication of any cost or anything; he just sprang it on me. And this is back when most everyone was free other than Stan, Neal Adams and maybe a couple others. I think Joe Kubert was asking for a $5 donation to Heroes Initiative per sig, if that gives any perspective.
  7. It's interesting that you put it that way. I have intermittently caught flak about getting things signed and not doing it in person. The idea being that conventional wisdom says "a signature should be be about having a moment with the creator." While that is certainly true sometimes, for me it was more about "collecting" the autographs - liked having them signed just like I liked autographed sports cards.
  8. I have never been yelled at by a comic creator - I have seen some of them get really grumpy. Adam Hughes threw a fit when I was in his line once. I saw Marv Wolfman get pretty agitated once. I got mad and threw a temper tantrum at Arthur Suydam one year (I think at WWCh). I asked him to sign my copy of Cholly & Flytrap #1 and he told me that I needed to spend $30 at his table for an autograph. I'm pretty sure my response was "Dude, it's Cholly and Flytrap, not Marvel Zombies." He said no money, no auto, so i looked him right in the eye and threw the book in the trash. @mschmidt fished it out and gave it back to me later. He just couldn't stand me pitching a perfectly good comic . . .
  9. @Mayor006 re-reading this thread was great!
  10. The only no staple book I've ever owned was a Jungle Action that I sent in to be signed by Rich Buckler. It was an absolutely beautiful 9.4 copy. I did not notice the lack of staples when I graded/page counted it. I suspect that it had that "stuck together" sort of static cling that books pressed into longboxes get after a while. I got a message back from CGC that if it got signed, it was going to go in a green label slab because of the lack of staples (this was long before the Green/Yellow label existed). So I just had them ship it back to me. I truly question whether they would slab that book (or the OP's book) these days because the interior of the book, not being attached, might cause the whole thing to be subject to excessive SCS.
  11. One of the finest gentlemen I have ever met. And his wife was the sweetest lady ever. She got food poisoning and I ended up taking them both to the hospital. She was violently ill, and not one cross or distressed word was ever spoken. That was one crazy weekend. He had signed some absolutely amazing books, and was always a little bemused that people wanted sigs on the cover. He worked very hard to find unobtrusive spots and did every signature meticulously. Just warm, friendly, kind people!
  12. There are Paul Smith SS books and sketches. They are fairly few and far between,
  13. I drove Mr. and Mrs. Murphy Anderson around Cincinnati once.
  14. Was there really a sale at 5k? I tried finding a NM+ 1st print for months in anticipation of a signing. I did not realize it, but there are a number of printings on par with JTHM, and I never did track down a high grade 1st print. I think @mschmidt had one UHG 1st print #1 that is now a SS 9.6.
  15. Any of the auction sites should be regularly checked. BUt the best deals are not going to be books like ASM 301
  16. This is a situation where you and Kav are both kind of right. You have always paid a premium, most likely because you are purchasing from a sophisticated SS marketplace - here or Ebay qualify. SS books on Comiclink or especially Heritage often times tank. And it demonstrates what lots of people here are dicussing. There is a much smaller market, and if you miss the market, you will get a fraction of what the book is "worth."
  17. I would love to have a shot at one of the CaptainAmericars!!!
  18. You could console yourself by interpreting the title as "Copper is Heating/Selling Well on Ebay.
