  1. I think the best you could legitimately hope for is that it would sell for the same price as the comparative issue Yellow label with Todd only. Some people will not want it because of the Yellow Green label. I do think that in some instances (like Dynamic Forces autos) people will be less likely to consider it a defect.
  2. Here is one data point from GPA - the 5.0 FF48. Regular blue label GPA is $216 SS 5.0 Sgnt series (Stan Lee File Copy) -- -- -- -- $500Dec 2010 SS 5.0 Signed by Joe Sinnott -- -- $600Oct 2019 SS 5.0 Signed by Stan Lee -- $800Oct 2019 I am providing this as a PSA - Pay for GPA. It's worth it!
  3. FU. You get a fanny rubbing puff piece and I get f*cking Sadfan. You suck.
  4. I find this to be an excellent post. I, and many other collectors of my vintage, do not care a whit about newsstand variants. My collection was littered with them from my days of riding a bike to the Hook's drug store for whatever I could get my hands on, and even before that, from when my dad would stop at Village Pantry and lay a stack of comics on me. Being a teenager in the eighties, they were completely interchangeable, and quite frankly, most seemed to prefer the art-bearing boxes versus the clunky UPC codes. But for those of different vintages, and those for whom the joy of hunting down rarities is part of the fun of collecting comics, I can see it continuing to be "a thing."
  5. It really is. But you never know what is going to catch the collective fancy - some from history that are pretty interesting in addition to the Dave Stevens covers - the Maxx Artist Proofs, the Death of Superman later printings, to some extent the Boards have fomented the newsstand craze, and honestly, I think sketch covers should be on the list as well. It happens when people realize "Yeah - those are pretty cool." The great thing about Godzilla is that he had 25 or so years with the Toho movies, and then all of a sudden they bring him into the Marvel Universe and then just as quickly - POOF - the license is gone and so is he. Godzilla is an icon and his time in the MCU, while pretty weird, is also pretty cool. Congrats on your set! PS: One of you guys probably has this now. https://www.myslabbedcomics.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=7423&GSub=2660 PPS: So you know my Godzilla love is legit - this is the first guy that wore the suit https://www.myslabbedcomics.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=15431&GSub=631
  6. There is no reason to think that these higher prices will hold. The Boards are riddled with examples of books that get on people's radar, they start posting about them, a small group of competitive people also decide they want them, and then a mini-boom erupts. The biggest one I can recall was high grade Dave Stevens covers. They really popped for a while when people were getting the Registry set completed etc. I would expect when the dust settles that as more of these books become available, they will be able to be gotten for 60-70% of the high prices. (Please don't think I am dissing these books. I'm not. Merely discussing the "price boom" that sometimes gets worked up on the Boards.)
  7. Good thread to resurrect. Many of my favorite posters present.
  8. The two that had me riding my bike like a wild man to pick up were Secret Wars and Squadron Supreme. Many other excellent choices mentioned here, but these two were absolute spinner rack must-gets.
  9. When it comes to Bronze - the list of what I didn't buy compulsively is shorter than what I did. I never picked up Nova 2-up, Marvel Tarzan, Shogun Warriors 2-up, Spider-Woman 2-up, Avengers after 188ish, DC Comics Presents 2-up, Eternals 2-up. That's about it.
  10. Shad, honestly, I feel the same way. But this isn't Minority Report.
  11. That's the real issue. The PL has its rules, there is no one else to hold him to the PL so he is off. The HoS horse has left the barn and only those of us who were here are left to remember. It's basically a technicality.
  12. If it qualifies for Signature Series, then whatever the art does, it is ignored for grading purposes.
  13. It is reminiscent of the Sienkiewicz P*nisTroll . . .
  14. Yes, they are. The shown staple on the X-Men 4 is impacted. I can't see anything on the other shown staple. But there are small tears. They could have been there before, or they could be ocurring because of the book migrating and the cover staying in place. This is not a new phenomenon. There have been threads about this phenomenon many times over the years.
  15. Whisper sweet nothings in Rich Henn's ear.
  16. Get some help with blocking UV light. Black ink on light comic paper will fade very very quickly.
  17. Just so you get some actual information: (1) Yes there are documented cases of covers tearing away from books in undamaged cases. A buildup of static can cause the cover to become "fixed" (like stuck) and then small impacts such as those in transit can cause the book to move but the cover stays fixed and BAM! you have a trainwreck situation. (2) The book you showed does not have that situation. It has impacted staples, which based on the severity of the impact and the era of the book most likely did not affect the grade. Unfortunately, impacted staples like those can also occur as a result of an inferior press job. That may have happened because there appears to be some tearing at the top of the staple. If I had graded this book, I would have taken off for the tear on the impacted staple and i would have assumed a wack press job.
  18. That's not a fair assessment of the Lighthouse situation. It's cool to have your friends' back, but it's just not the way it was. That being said, it looks like, according to the terms of PL, that Lighthouse should be removed. Lighthouse, I hope you take of everyone here very well, and if you do that, I hope your sales are robust. --S.
  19. They shouldn't be beholden to come to you with their gruel bowls in their hands so you can dole out their refunds into them. You should scour the Boards and figure out everyone you f*cked and make them whole. The passage of time and contrite words do not combine into a magical absolution potion. Figure out everyone you screwed over make it right. Post the proof. Then you should be exonerated and off the PL. I'm all about fresh starts and forgiveness, but 50000 junk comics and a "come get your refund" post doesn't feed the bulldog. You are legendary for your failures. You should be legendary in your recompensatory efforts.
