A few of the Thursday highlights from Emerald City Comic Con at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle. Apologies that the lights (and slabs and mylar) didn't allow for the best of photographs. I'm only posting these, I belatedly add, to give the East Coast crowd a few samples of what was in the house. Have you ever read anything that might explain the condition of the books off the newsstand? Not once they reached Edgar's home, but at the newsstand. Did the guy set aside one copy of each issue for Church? Did Church emphasize that he wanted the book with the fewest flaws? So much lost history ...

Like much of the civilized world, I root for the Cubs ... but I'm also a huge fan of Randall's approach on the boards. He picked up three Silver Age Marvels from me, paid for them immediately, and communicated with style and charm. Thanks!

Berk? No. As I noted in the book, Gil Fox found the Hit #17 cover in a garbage can. Also this: Al Williamson told me he once walked into a room at King Features that was being re-painted, and realized the crew was using Hal Foster's original Prince Valiant pages to catch the excess paint. And Sam Moskowitz exited Hugo Gernsback's office late one night and discovered 13 Frank R. Paul originals, all framed, piled atop another garbage can. "Waiting for Saturday morning pickup," Moskowitz said. Yes, he salvaged them all.

In my travels while working on "Comics: Between the Panels" in the '90s, I had the good fortune to see the original art for Hit 17, Jungle 1 and Planet 1.

A pleasure to deal with, on every level. Sold Asif a copy of Thrilling 48, autographed by Schomburg, and I'm delighted the book is part of his collection.

Anyone who owns Church books -- or thinks they do -- benefits from more clarity about where those comics have been since they left the basement.

Unfortunately, I didn't. As you might imagine, I'll follow the discussion on the TAR 3 with some interest.

The TAR 3 hasn't been cracked out since I picked it up in 2009.
