You're welcome.  So let's meet back here when you're finished and compare notes. Next Tuesday?

    lol

Just finished Daredevil season 1, I will follow your list and move on to Jessica Jones even though I want to watch DD S2.

I cannot sit through Agents of shield again, it was a decent series but not outstanding. I have seen all the films except Dark Pheonix & Thor 4, some films I could watch again, some I couldn't but I really haven't seen a lot of the older TV shows and thats what I am really looking forward to when she is at work

She wants to re-watch Game of Thrones  I thought it was great but if she gets that, then I vote Sopranos next :sumo: for the maybe 4th time.

The compromise may be the Blade films, never really saw them since they were out and wonder how they stand up after your comments.

OK, here comes Kevin's list: all of Marvel in watching (chronological) order.  Spoiler alert:  it references a ton of stuff that happens in the MCU/ABC/Netflix-verse and all Marvel related projects for the last 24 years, so if you don't want to see the result, look away now.

I am not endorsing any of this, in fact, I strongly recommend giving Mutant X and Runaways a hard swerve.  Where something is set at a point in time other than 'now', I have used the time it's set in, but where things appear to occur purely in the then-present, I have assumed it was set in the year it was produced.

You can probably find websites that dispute some of these points. You know what Marvel fandom is like.  I particularly like the point where Disney announced that Moon Knight was set in 2025 and someone calculated that, by the phases of the moon (which are obviously critical to the plot), it must actually take place in 2024.  Excellent.  I'm proud to say I've gone nowhere near that level of accuracy. Obviously, things like DOFP, Endgame and Loki which jump around in time are dealer's choice really.

Kev, the 3rd table gives you the Netflix series and where they fit in.  The way I've laid it out means you can either watch just the Netflix series in the right order, or Netflix + the MCU, or everything. Whatever you like.

BTW, the She Hulk/Shang Chi thing is disputed, which is why it makes no sense.  It doesn't matter what order you watch these in.

my list includes a column which explains the reason why I think each piece of the puzzle fits where it fits, but this of course means that the list is crawling with spoilers

I think I would like to see this part as well, spoilers wouldn't stop me.

*I remember the Blade films being quite good, admittedly it has been a while since I watched them, I think Wesley Snipes was a perfect choice.

I have started to watch Daredevil, about 6 episodes in, it's better than I thought it would be

I dunno how long exactly but I was more a DC collector when I was a kid and had a big bunch of Action comics & Supermans (not sure which title) these were late 60s early 70s books dunno the issue number without looking it up. I guess it would have been around the same time as you are talking, maybe early to mid 70s at the latest.

The stories were never continued, and I used to read them over and over as I didn't have that many comics, one of the stories was about an alien criminal been taken to prison by a guard, but they crashed the ship on earth and died, their personalities survived in their costumes, the bad guy costume possesses criminals but they are not strong enough, after fighting Superman the costume wants to possess him for his power and seeks him out, just as it finds Superman, the Prison guards costume comes flying in too.

The End..... continued next issue :pullhair::frustrated::censored:

I used to re-read that comic still even though I never had the next issue, about 20 years ago I got the next issue when I started to buy from Ebay and was over the moon to get it, but tbh, I have still never read it and its probably just as well as I doubt it would stand up to well, I think the writers were on drugs in the 1970s as the DC stories were strange to say the least.

99% of the new comics I bought since the 1980s I haven't read, I do still read but only older stuff.

Thinking about this when I went to bed this morning for ages, couldnt get to sleep had to get up and find them, thanks Malacoda lol

Tbh, it was nostalgic just looking through the drawers as I haven't needed any Action comics that late in a long time.

A title I will never complete, I still need over 100 issues and my earliest is only #33, so even a lottery win wouldn't get it done

Action comics 383 = read 20+ times, Action comics 384 = read 1 time and that was just now.

...and was it worth the wait, well whaddaythink lollollol

    Both stamped copies too

OK, can anyone beat this one?  In 1973/4, I was about 7 or 8 so beyond the Beano and the Beezer but not yet into Marvel. I used to read comics like Warlord, Victor, Valiant, etc.  One of these was, I think, the Hotspur. It had a strip which I remember being called 'the Denizen of the Deep' (I think it's actually called Fishboy: the denizen of the deep, but I really liked the word 'denizen').  I only got these occasionally, so I was never able to follow a story properly, and the story that really caught my imagination was 'the Terror in the Tall Tower', but I only had sporadic copies of the Hotspur (or whichever one it was), so I knew I would never know what happened in the (completely ludicrous) story.

In 1980, I walked into Sutton's (my local newsagent) and there on the shelf was the whole thing - all episodes of that very story in a single issue.  What we would later call a graphic novel and now call a TPB. I had never seen anything like this before.  I bought it and kind of saved it. I was so stunned to see it, to 'have it back', that I was kind of saving it for a 'special read' (no, I don't know what that means either).

Skip ahead 42 years and I still have it.  Still unread. I sort of feel like when I do read it, a part of my life will be over. I think I may have inadvertently started my bucket list at the age of 13.  The really odd thing is that the 6 years that passed between me reading this as 7 year old and finding the compiled edition as a 13 year old seemed like an absolute eternity. It seemed like something from a previous life.  The 42 years since have gone by in the blink of an eye.

So who can beat 42 years?  (this can't be a comic you just forgot about or lost or decided you weren't actually interested in.  It has to be one that has always been on your reading list, and somehow you just never actually sit down with it).

    Have not read the comics?!!!

Oh my.  What a great series.  The show can't quite do it justice, but I'm happy that you'll enjoy the show more now due to not reading the comics.

Is it still worth reading the comics?

I remember buying some big black slipcase thing with a key on the front, that's still sealed on a shelf upstairs.

Think I have a few slabs too, I heard great things at the time the comics were out so bought with every intention, I just never got caught up enough to read them, as is always the case :eyeroll:

I've been watching the whole of Marvel in chronological order - so starting with the Cap 1 movie, then the Agent Carter TV series, the Agent Carter one shot, Xmen First Class, DOFP, Xmen Origins: Wolverine....you get the idea. All the movies, TV series & one shots from every studio, everything from Blade onwards.
I can send you the viewing order if you REALLY want a binge.

Yes please, I have seen all the films and a few series like Wanda vision etc but a list to work through sounds great :)

By the way, I think binging was necessary for Loki, Hawkeye, Falcon & WS and the Netflix shows, but I don't think you will gain from binging She Hulk. The episodes are all separate though related, and it's a much lighter tone. It's very much Byrne's She Hulk, breaking the 4th wall and where the comic parodied super hero comics, this does the same to the movie /TV genre.  That makes it sound quite naff, but it's actually rather fun. Support cast is great.

Also, watching it each week, like we used to watch TV, is really nice in a way I can't quite define.

I cant watch anything week to week, I havent seen Loki, Hawkeye, Falcon & WS, which do you recommend next for me?

I was gonna watch Jessica Jones then Defenders next, yeah, I know I am way behind.

Just binged Locke & Key, I bought the comics but never read any of them, thought it was fantastic, even my missus likes it.

We started off watching it together but as she works and I dont I just couldn't wait for her, she is about 4 episodes in, I have watched 3 seasons lol

Lordy Mama.  You have a slabbed #48 signed by Stan?  OK.  That is quite some collection.

Kev, while you're checking for SS 10, could you please also look for stamps of 15, 16 and 17.  There are plenty of PV's and unstamped cents copies, but no stamps found so far.  (Actually, I say plenty, #15 seems to be pretty rare despite being a PV).

As Steve will tell you, I spent an entire year scouring the Tinternet for Avengers #9 and DD #4 before realising that I actually owned stamped copies of both.  And they're supposedly impossibly rare.  Nothing would surprise me.

Soz guys, I cant put my hands on any SS duplicates, looked as much as I could for those and other things I have been wanting to find, waste of time and energy, all I can find are the 1& 4s that I took pics of years ago and the set that is in order in my collection. My 10 is a cents, no stamp. 15, 16 & 17 are all PV, no stamps.

My Avengers 9 is a cents no stamp and my DD4 is a PV, cant quite make out the stamp, maybe a #4

I was enthralled by the Surfer - for some reason I thought the X men were silly and did not read them.

I could have quite easily wrote this, the difference is that, I still do not really like the X-men

The common thing between these two titles is that when I was skint in the 80s, I sold all my Surfers as a complete set and all my X-men and that was enough to get my bills paid, I still regret it.

I have long since replaced them all but will never get them back in the grades that they were.

No pics of my originals, so I can only dream at how good they were.

Thats why I never sell anything :(

Like Gary, I guess I have become a bit Surfer obsessive over the years too.

I will have a look for #10s tomorrow, well you never know lol

By this time I was buying these comics as they came out in UK, plenty of shops had them but I never ever saw any multi-mags! Any one else?

(Three 12p copies for 25p so a decent saving)

What that around 1979? I was 15/16 at that time.

By then my mind was on girls and any comics I was buying then was from Timeslip, never went to any Newsagents or seen any of these to the best of my knowledge, please say you grabbed them :wishluck:

@Garystarand @Kevin.J did you buy all those multipacks from shops/newsagents right here in the UK? I would have thought at least one would have had a UK price sticker to help the retailer. As I have mentioned before, these things seem to have been common in the States but I never saw any bags of Marvels or DCs here myself. However I purchased Gold Key multibags in the 1960s. But these were always to be found in toyshops and Department stores rather than the usual booksellers/newsagents.

To my best recollection I have only ever bought them from someone else, like Garystar, I never saw any in a UK shop.

It may help if I can ever put my hands on mine as sometimes seeing certain books evokes the memory.

Hi Kev - where's round here - Newcastle?   Any chances of some pics of multi bags? Would love to see them. Cheers

Yeah, Newcastle and the surrounding northeast area, I travelled as far as my bike could get me :)

I dont have pics of my multibags anymore, they are lost on my old dead hard drive of my last PC

Only this one I took for another thread a while ago, this is the best one I guess, certainly the most valuable anyway.

Dude.  A Close Encounter of the 3rd Kind with a Marvel Lucky Bag (or similar.....I believe there were a few versions of this re-distributing tactic, Lucky Bags seems to be most often remembered, but there were others).  X men 113 would be some time after Sept 1978 and 12p was indeed the cover price at that point.  Very specific memories (but those memories are always crystal clear, aren't they?  For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face).

Thank you for this.  There is zero chance that any of these survived in the bags and they were non-returnable, so if newsagents couldn't shift them, I imagine they just opened the bags up and priced them down or threw them out.  For that reason, people who distinctly remember buying them are the only resource left.  Of course, you bartered with the newsagent for your paper round money so your memory of this is all the more distinct.

I have to say that as a kid I never seen a Marvel Lucky bag or any of the various type of bags, there was nothing like that around here.

I dunno about zero chance of some surviving, I think some always make it through somehow.

I have some older type multibags somewhere in my collection still unopened.
