  1. Impulse buy. Not many of these on the census, but then again who would bother
  2. For OP So reality has come to cons. If you and your kids want spend endless hours at the ballpark ‘hoping’ for a Mike Trout signed ball, then have at it, but don’t expect anything. Go to the show with your appointment and get your ball signed there if you want the trip to be fruitful. And comic celebrities are different how?
  3. I can’t read 10 pages of this nonsense. Count pages, 100% your fault for subbing an incomplete book. Refund your original cost but you eat the slabbing fees. I am sorry this happened but quit your whining and accept a little responsibility
  4. For me this is quite the splurge. Low graders I paid about $50 ea for.
  5. I get that, but as a seller I just pop the positive as soon as I get paid. I am out nothing since you can only do positive anyways. But as a buyer, as soon as the book arrives and I determine it is not rolled up German newspapers, I look for FB from seller and if there is none I hide it from the list and never go back. I do this because from years of leaving the positives and seeing my FB left list is almost exactly twice as long as FB received. If the seller does not care then it saves us both time.
  6. They already do this. There is best ‘actor’ and best ‘actress’ Either you believe in it and are all in or you never bought the actor and actress thing and want to give only 1 award
  7. mental illness is not any more likely in the US as any other country and yet our gun crimes are many times higher This one has played itself out, next excuse please
  8. Said before, but end the randomness of page quality. There are too many variables around the whiteness of the original paper. If it does not factor into the grade it has no business being on the label.
  9. So I learned here that the seller in question sells undisclosed restored raw books. And that hot dogs are expensive at conventions …..
  10. The goal should be to suppress demand until tat’s return to an acceptable level
  11. While I have taken a huge step backwards by consigning my variants, I am clawing my way back. Completion is certainly not in the cards since I rely solely on finding these in the wild. So my new mile stones are completing runs. A low grade middling variant here that I scoped out on EBay for $4, it was non the less fun to complete the Conan run
  12. This happens to me a lot. The seller lists ‘combined shipping’ then never responds to messages. I bid more on follow up items knowing I can combine, then they jerk the rug out. If they pocket the money without follow up refund, I leave positive but crack them hard on the shipping stars.
  13. So my plan is to place a large bet on Red Sox to sweep the Astros in the ALCS, then this bad boy is mine! Wish me luck Mr B
  14. There's plenty of soiling going on around here right now
  15. The problem with using census numbers are myriad ( how many were CPR, signed, etc) At one point there were exactly 2 copies of Inhumans #12 35 cent variant in the census, but I had 3 Raws just in my own collection(none of which were ever slabbed). Key books have more reliability, but again, how many of those SW#1’s were CPR’d? And how many times each?
  16. Again, there is a 3 pack from my collection that is not marked “Whitman” anywhere that is from 1977 cover dated books How to ascribe that to Whitman? It seems that these are indeed direct and to different distributors. I think what needs to be added is ‘direct to retailers/comic shops’
  17. Well that’s the debate. I recall directly that these were sold in 3 packs at K-mart. They were thought to be ‘reprint’ because they were there literally years after they were released on the regular newsstand circuit in spinner racks. The local K-mart I went ONLY had 3 packs. So then what is a “Newsstand” ? My understanding is they were returnable - thus the ‘remainder’ copies that show up on eBay with the cover torn off all the way or in part. These diamond books seem to be direct in every fashion and they clearly exist in 1977
  18. BTW if these early diamond price box issues were ‘Whitmans’ , they were not always marked as such. One would think Whitman would want to advertise their own product. It may be that these were simply sold ‘direct’ and the reseller could package them whatever way they want in 3 packs or not. What is clear to me is these books were not newsstand. They would be on shelves until they sold, there were no returns as per the newsstand.
