  1. I just think there should be a group of people that look over every situation and let them decide. That way there is no favorites. And keep it a secret about who is on the deciding team, if people find out, replace them. That keeps it honest

    Secret tribunal?

    Comic Octagon?

    lol

We'd be better off to have a open group, more of a supreme court.

  2. There should be changes to the rules. In no particular order.

    1. If a person is nominated to be placed on the PL a formal vote must be taken with a poll lasting for a predetermined period with the majority number of votes deciding the outcome.

    2. If a person is nominated and doesn't respond, they should not automatically be added to the list after 72 hours if the majority of voters in a poll don't agree that it is PL worthy.

    3. If there isn't any evidence presented, i.e. PMs, Emails, Texts etc, and only one side of the story is posted due to the lack of a response by the accused, then there should be a conditional addition to the list.

    4. If a person was added to the PL without majority votes in a poll, a person should be able to be removed by a majority vote agreement in a poll.

Allowing anyone to nominate someone else for any reason and not have a vote where the less vocal members can express their opinion as well, the list is too arbitrary to be taken seriously.

There will clearly be cases of gross misconduct where it seems obvious that a person should be added, a vote to support the assumption should still be mandatory. In cases where there is not a clear right or wrong answer a vote is even more important.

There should also be a minimum number of overall participants in the poll in order for it to be valid.

I do like the spirit of number 4.

If someone is on the PL and is trying to get off of it but the person who nominated them is no longer active on the boards they should be able to be voted off.

  3. First off - "her". vemd93.gif

Here is the rule regarding threads that are over two years old being "Closed". (thumbs u

    LINK

The "her" was a typo Guess you've never done one

And doesn't say anything in the rules. The RULES are what people go by on the boards. Really shouldn't matter if it's a week old or years old. If someone can find the thread and it doesn't say it's closed then that person should be able to buy the book. Technically it's still an open thread

    This is insane.

I'm going to dig up some sales threads from 2003 when AF 15s and FF 1s in Fr/Good were going for $500 or so a pop.

    :takeit:

  4. Also, Trying to figure out the 35% claim on sending money to the states. Western Union charges $5. Paypal is free if Personal and only a few percent if business. A check is free. The highest I've seen is Canadian Post Money order and that is 14%

PayPal personal will charge the extra 1% (or so) to transfer money to a foreign country.

I think the sender has to pay the fee.

  5. If he disputed your grades when he got the books, maybe, but after he sent them to cgc?

    No dice.

    +1

Except if you sold them claiming no restoration. Either he does not like the transaction and you can offer a full refund (which you did) or he is satisfied and keeps all the books. You've given him a choice which is more than fair.

Yeah in a "group deal" you need to take into consideration total value.

You get "group deals" just in case one book has restro and you are still ahead if the others turn out OK.

Unless he paid asking price for each one, then in that case each comic should stand in it's own merit.

  6. everyone keeps saying that HOS is reserved for the worst of the worst but looking just at the HOS members added in 2013, it seems to not match that description.

granted some of the things solarcadet and gijoe did were horrible, but does it really compare to thomas neely, redrocks or beerbohm?

I'm not suggesting even for a minute that anyone should be taken off that list. Just trying to understand how some people have the impression of what that lists really consists of.

HOS admittance standards is like CGC grading.

There are strict periods and loose periods.

  7. Did it get graded a 4th time yet and is it in a blue label?

    :)

It's going to be the final book in the grading tournament.

I win then since a month ago I guessed right:

    Well...

My major problem is how the hell did that book get a 7.0 (when in it's PLOD state) with that big honking crease going down most of the spine?

PLOD isn't suppose to be a grade bump is it?

My best guess is that it was a 6.0 blue all along and the PLOD was a mistake both in grade and trimming detection.

    @ Marvel Zombie

Isnt the restoe check the gold standard that's supposed to distinguish CGC from PGX ...?

    Trimming isn't restoration, it's damage.

That's why it's the hardest thing to detect, unless it's a hack job a blind man could see.

  8. Just curious for those that double box an item, those double box is obviously priority boxes, so if the post office really inspect the package and find out that you use an extra priority box for the shipping, do they charge you double the cost, just like media mail using priority box cut out?

    No extra charge.

  9. Never send anything good Media mail!!!!

Media Mail is the red headed step child of the Postal service.

It's is always pushed to the back of the line and is subjected to the longest delays and roughest handling.

My experience over the last 20 some years with the USPS:>

Registered Mail: About 40 packages sent - 0 problems. 0% fail rate

    Express (over-nite/rarely use): 3-4 times - 0 problems 0% fail rate

Priority Mail: probably over 2000 sent (hell maybe 3000 lol ) - 0 problems 0% fail rate

Media Mail: About 50 times used (mostly the early eBay days (1997-2003) when buyers requested it: 3 problems 1 almost lost but found after filing claim - 1 lost - 1 returned to me destroyed/contents lost. 6% fail rate

  10. see thats not correct..I ship slab priority medium, received a lot from here not even in priority..I ship raws, depending on how many various ways..The damaged comics, are usually slabs in priority medium boxes, so that argument makes no sense..get all your facts before you accuse anyone..That would be a new thing lately though..people getting all the facts, before accusations fly here..

You're going to love his response then.

not for me..my prices range from 3.13 to 4.92 on media..and 11.39-11.99 on priority..what are you talking about..

I didn't respond because it was a 3 minute gap and I didn't even see it.

send it back...will send out the refund from paypal..your an insufficiently_thoughtful_person..My prices are shown, are you looking for things to off people, you tried in the revival thread..I don't need your cheap price on the asm I sold you, I did you a favor..I don't inflate my prices on my shipping or comics..Don't ever call me a liar, thats not true nor has it ever been true..So yea return it, I will paypal the money back to you. Give a cut rate price, and you complain about the shipping charge..wow..get a life

Edit: The revival thread comment is when he brought Revival from a few pages back on the Modern section saying that he knew there was going to be a TV show. And then he posted a sales thread for a full run CGC 9.8 minutes later. A lot of members called him out for manipulating.

I've avoided him since I received the very poorly packed and damaged slab. I have also noticed how he tends to get very butthurt and play the victim when questioned about anything here or on other forums.

With that said, it looks as if he has had some successful and smooth transactions since our deal. So, caveat emptor for all that enter his sales threads...

Did you get refunded? or not? If so, what would be the complaint then?

I mentioned that I did get refunded and it went smoothly. With that said, this is not a priority medium box

    1079153.jpg

Slabs need to be place between two cardboard pieces, taped in place (two opposite sides are good enough), then surrounded by bubble wrap and that taped in place. Then place that in a 1092 priority box and use peanuts to fill up the empty space. Then place that inside a 1095 box with some more peanuts or rolled paper to fill the small space.

    Double box or gtfo.

    :sumo:

  11. Buyer said it was OK to share

    - As of 9am this CGC wanted the book to look it over again and make a determination. Offered buyer $3500 to buy the book outright.

    - Buyer does not respond to CGC as he wants to keep the book for his collection (his intentions the entire time)

    - CGC makes a statement around 5pm stating they are in the process of buying the book back, and it is DEFINATELY trimmed

What to believe?? Maybe I'm the one being April Fooled (shrug)

That book needs to be inspected by an unbiased third-party.

WTF Plitch? Is the above bolded part true?

Not sure which is the worse scenario :

1)That the book is trimmed & CGC missed it twice.

2)The book isn't trimmed, and CGC is claiming that it is.

    :ohnoez:

And I hope they don't overreact to this mistake.

To me labeling a book trimmed that isn't is a worse injustice than missing one that is.

  12. Greetings all,

So in going over this JIM #83, we made a mistake on this one.

The book IS trimmed (on the top edge of the cover), as we went over it thoroughly in February. So how did it come through just last week and go out the door as a blue label? Well, first off, it was certainly *not* any kind of under-the-table deal with anybody. As it has been often stated, the graders do not know who the submitter is and grades every book as if it is the first time they have seen it. This also has nothing to do with which graders saw the book. Quite simply, when it comes to checking for restoration, some books are *obviously* restored (or trimmed) and some are obviously not. There are a few books, though, where the restoration can be extremely subtle and require extra scrutiny. If nothing sends up a "red flag" for the particular graders on a book, it can, unfortunately (but rarely), get by us.

Like others have said in this thread, and we have stated ourselves, we are not perfect. But the team of graders we have here are, bar none, the best in the business. In grading nearly 3 million books, we have admittedly made errors. But when an error is brought to our attention we fix whatever the problem is. We strive to "make it right" for the owner so that everyone comes away satisfied.

Right now we are in the process of purchasing the JIM #83 from the new owner in order to remove it from the market.

We obviously take great pride in the confidence that people have in CGC, we appreciate their trust, and are always trying to improve our company in every way, from restoration detection, to turnaround times, to our holder, and more.

Thank you all for taking the time to read this.

    Good.

    Now...

How the heck was it a 7.0 in the purple label case?

A book doesn't get a grade bump just because it's a PLOD correct?

The fact that a micro-trim was missed isn't that upsetting to me, since it's happened before.

    :eyeroll:

But the difference between a 6.0 and 7.0 on a JIM 83 is huge.

-Yes, I'm the only person in the thread more concerned about that than the trim which probably makes me a weirdo.
