  1. Just when you think you've seen all kinds of stupid. :frustrated:

Unbelievable! Simply amazing! Acting like this to a guy that STILL found it in his heart to give the little twerp another chance and went out of his way for him.

Connor, you don't know me, and we'll probably never meet, but I gotta hand it to you, kid, you've given a whole new meaning to a large number of four-letter words! :censored:

Be thankful that Steve B is a nice, peace-loving (in a hippie-ish sort of way) guy. If you'd done something like that to me (and a few others around here, I'm sure), you'd probably be eating through a straw right now. (thumbs u

  2. The 80-106 set is taking a long but fun time to complete. I currently have 13 of the 27 books. The next book gets me over the 50% hump. After that it is all dowhill. lol,

I started this run about 5 years ago and it is becoming increasing difficult to find the remaining books above 5.0. I saw one at Chicago I needed but I feared it may it had color touch. So I passed. If it was priced lowered I probably would have taken it. The colors were bright.

Here are the ones I still need.

    85,87,88,89,90,91,94,95,96,97,98,100,103,106

I have seen a few 106 this past year. But they were either ubber high grade or too nasty looking.

I think I remember you having a #94 for sale a few months back hm . Was it a lower grade copy?

Good luck on your quest. Sensations are :cloud9:

  3. Whenever I'm out searching for comics, I find that the methods that stir the most anticipation inside of me are whenever I go to garage sales, estate sales, flea markets or antique malls. You just never know what you're going to come across at one of these or at what price. I find comics other ways (eBay, the boards, online auctions, etc.) but my anticipation always seems to be higher with the old manual foot search methods.

So post all of your great garage sale/estate sale/flea market/antique mall finds here. Doesn't have to be a comic either. It could be magazines, toys, posters or anything else you deem appropriate but try to keep it comic related if possible.

One of the best finds I ever had was in Wisconsin on my way to a programming class in Minnesota a few years ago. About half-way there I stopped at an antique mall which was 3 levels high. Looked and looked and found nothing on the first 2 levels. Got to the 3rd level, made a left turn and looked down on the floor to my left. I just about had a heart attack. There sitting on the floor was an Exciting Comics #49 and an Adventure Comics #62. :o And what was the price on them? How about a nice low 10 bucks each? Needless to say, I snatched them up as faster than the Flash. I ended up selling both of them but made a nice healthy profit on each. :applause:

I'll start it out with some comics and a lunch box. Picked up the first comic at a garage sale and the rest from a local antique mall. The lunch box came from another garage sale and I paid a whopping 50 cents for it.

  6. Kudos to zuckuss2003 for a box full of wonderful modern goodies purchased at the closing hours of the latest VCC. :cloud9:

Kudos to the1stfro for a bunch of tightly graded bronze and copper ASMs and for going the extra mile to help a customer. (thumbs u

Super-special kudos to jeBailey for helping out a fellow collector without expecting anything in return! (worship)

  7. Sorry to hear that, but unfortunately it's no surprise. Silveracre has been discussed many times before on the boards. They are completely petty and will cheerfully screw you over to eke out a few more bucks...and it's unfortunate, as years ago I had considered them a worthwhile dealer and had spent some good money with them.

Why, here's an entertaining read... hm

(edit: Hello Nick! I see we were thinking along the same lines.) :hi:

    Petty is an understatement.

I once ordered a few hundred magazine bags from him, to be collected from a Manchester, England comic mart, which at the time I attended regularly.

When I arrived, he told me he'd decided to sell them all to someone else shortly before, and "unfortunately" :( had none left.

Then he said, very forcefully, "It's OK that?! - Isn't it?! - Yeah?!"

That is, attempted to browbeat me, on my first order with him, into accepting that this selfishness and total lack of concern was somehow acceptable behaviour. (Oh, the mart had only been open an hour, so I wasn't late-in-the-day or anything.)

I thought quietly to myself, "How utterly pathetic and desperate. All over a few comic bags."(tsk)

I then said, "Well, you could fill my missing order by mail?", to which he replied, in a very angry tone, and pointing extremely aggressively at my face... :o(tsk)

"Yeah, and you'll pay the postage!!"

(This was in front of a pal of mine who has a table at the mart, by the way. I always like to give some indication that I can be substantiated.)

So, regardless of the nature or value of the order you place, a few cheap bags or a CGC Batman 1, the misbehaviour never seems to stop. Personally, this makes my skin crawl, literally, and I can't be far enough away from it. One of many here in Britain, apparently.

IMHO, you should not have said a word. Just stand there, staring at him. It doesn't have to be a mean stare, or even a cold stare. Just stand there for a minute, looking straight at him, not saying anything or conveying any emotion. Then, turn and walk away, with the knowledge that not only will you never do business with him again, but will relay this very story to anyone who mentions him.

Sometimes, silence speaks louder than words...

-slym (just not on a message board)

And maybe drop a fart out halfway through.

I'd probably beat the mess out of him. (shrug)

But I probably have some anger management issues, so I shouldn't be used as an example!

  8. Why do 9.8 WP golden age books make me smile???

They make me cry because I can't afford them!

Well, I could, if I focused all my comics budget on 5-10 high grade golden age books per year, but I find cheap mid-grade silver irresistable and I also have a compulsive need to acquire (literally) every post-68 comic book printed. :P

By the way, that is one hell of a book! (thumbs u
