I'd say no better than 7.0.  I had a poly-bagged copy that looked similar, but I was just starting out getting comics graded so I didn't know any better.  Polybagged comics can be a problem if handled improperly.  95 percent of my polybagged books over the years (now unbagged) were in less than 9.4 condition.  That's my situation though.  Might be different for others. (thumbsu

    Thanks for your thoughts!

  2. Picked this book up just to read the story a few years back.  If only I had the foresight...😫

anyway, give it a look over and let me know your thoughts.  I count about 13 color breaks on the front spine, with a bit of a spine roll.  Some dents on the front cover which don’t break color.  Some more color break creases on back (6?).

    Thanks, guys!

I said I have accepted that. You used a confused emoji on the market value.

Your statement seemed to indicate the market value would not hold on SW 1 being the first appearance of the Beyonder.  It seems to me you believe the “ray of light” showcasing the Beyonder was comparable to the arm of “Venom” in Web of 18, which the market does not reflect as the first appearance of, or even cameo of Venom.

That statement is what I am confused about, and do not agree with.  Again, SW#1 clearly indicates the “ray of light” is the Beyonder.  Web of 18 does not clearly indicate “Venom” or Eddie for that matter.  Two totally different examples.  Hence my confusion.

But let’s clarify, shall we?  Are you saying the Beyonder’s appearance in SW 1 is comparable to the ambiguity of Venom’s appearance in Web of 18?

I see some people are confused.

We all know that Web of Spider-Man #18 is the first appearance of Venom and also holds the most hobby value of presumed 1st's. Correct?

I would not call Web of #18 Venom’s “first appearance”.  Yes, we can put 2+2 together, but we don’t see him. There will always be some ambiguity there.  That’s why the market does not push that book through the roof.  However, SW #1 clearly reveals “the one from beyond”.

It's not always 100% accurate, but Comicvine is a good source for a lot of info: https://comicvine.gamespot.com/asajj-ventress/4005-46932/issues-cover/

Star Wars: Jedi - Mace Windu (2003) is listed as first appearance.

There's been a shift in collector thinking about Star Wars comics (and other comics based on other media, like Star Trek) that is more recent than a lot of the things CGC has noted in the past 20 years.  Very big names have examples, such as CGC still makes no mention of "first Captain Kirk in comics" or "first Spock" on Star Trek #1 (1967)... so I think Asajj Ventress is much lower on the disappointment (needs correcting) scale.  Collectors caring about it is the first step, collectors studying it to correctly identify the first appearances will be the next step, and eventually we'll get to CGC recognition.

    Ok, got it.  Thanks!

Definitely not worth it to restore. Comic restoration is frowned upon and many collectors despise it. That being said, certain OLDER books from the 40s and 50s have restoration as back in the 80s, it was not deemed a terrible thing.

With this book, restoration would kill any value and cost so much it would outweigh the amount you could ever hope to sell the book for (if you ever did). I get that you want it to present well but this book is not all that bad.

6.0 range from me, which is a perfectly good grade to get. Plus, it should still look sharp in a CGC case.

    Thanks for your time!

I think it's no better than a 6.0. As a general rule restoration does little to raise value unless it's a really rare classic book such as Action Comics #1 in really bad shape. To make it more presentable you can press it yourself using a clothes iron, some backer boards, and some parchment paper. Look up some YouTube videos on that before trying it. Be careful not to set the iron's temperature too high, somewhere around the wool setting or medium should be OK. With your book in its current condition you are unlikely to do much harm as long as you don't scorch it, and you can at least flatten out the edges and smooth any waviness that way.

Thank you for your review and time!

The defects won’t really be helped by pressing. Lots of color breaking spine stress lines and then color breaking creases and then the chipping and tears. It’s not worth restoring. A 9.8 unrestored brings around $2500 and professional restoration services start at $1000.

Got it.  Thank you very much for your review.  So glad I’m able to reach out to you guys for advice.

In my opinion, pressing and restoration would be a waste of money. I would recommend that you save this money, and put it toward a nicer CGC-graded copy.

Ok.  Thank you so much for taking a minute to look the pics over, and giving your opinion.  I appreciate it.

oh my bad I didnt see that huge cut lol Im gonna say its lower than a 7.0 but not too low maybe like a 6.0 6.5

Got it!  6.0.  I think I’ll look into getting the book restored, just for a visual presentation.  Or, maybe aim for conservation Work?🤔

  11. So, I found my ASM #300 at my parents house this evening.  I purchased it at a comic shop on release day.  It’s beat up.  However, I’m wondering what a pressing and cleaning will do.🤔  Or, is the damage bad enough that I should look at restoration.

In either case, if you guys could recommend a great presser or restoration expert, that would be great.

    Thanks for your time, guys.
