I really appreciate all the work and hustle CGC is putting into this, however it can be extremely frustrating when Books are damaged in the process and especially so when that damage occurs during a signing event where I’m sure that others besides me were sending in some of our favorite comics that were meticulously selected to be the highest grade possible.

I understand that this is the risk we take, but I can’t help but think that some of this unnecessary roughness could be avoided by slowing down a little bit and making sure the graders aren’t overworked.

I sent in a raw book (Batman 423) that was easily a 9.2 or worst case a 9.0 with ZERO spine stress lines 3 x backboards in the window bag for extra support and got back an 8.5 with 4 of them. This is my first experience submitting comics for grading and even though I still allegedly have $150 credit on my account that wasn’t applied towards this event, I may not even use it. I’m extremely hesitant to send any more of my books in if THIS is the result. Here’s the before and after.

I understand your disappointment.  I’ve been through it myself.  Check the link to the thread detailing my crash and burn.  I’ve been there.  That said, don’t let that stop you from sending in books.  I’ve sent a ton of books to be signed and they’ve mostly retained or received a higher grade.  I might have 3 crash and burn examples.  However, I’ve had far more success stories.  Bottom line, it’s a gamble.  You’ve got to be willing to take the loss in an effort to reach the highest example of success.  That gamble is what makes Signature series books so coveted.

    Things to note.

    1. If you are in it for value... only send the highest quality book or ones that even low grade are good value.

    2. Be overly critical of your books.

Example from above. I had a cgc 9.8 spawn #1, an already signed 9.8 cgc ss spawn #1 and 2 loose copies. I went with the one i never opened that was loose because i felt it could get 9.8. Where as the still loose copy i have has three spine stress marks with 1 having a color break. According to cgc standards thats 9.4 likely. Possibly 9.6 if im lucky and possibly a 9.2 if im not being critical enough.

i went with the unopened/never handled copy i had. I opened it to make sure no tears, the pull out poster was still there and in good shape and that it was a first print. Took some pics and then i packed it up.

    3. Be willing to be good with what you get. If you want 9.8 or bust.... either know your book is top notch or be ready to buy it on ebay, either signed or unsigned to send in.

    4. The trade off. Cgc ss service gets you the garunteed collectible. The trade off is you arent there to be a part of it. If meeting X signer is more important than future value of certified comic and signature, opt for convention. You can always get the green label and know you met them and it was X's signature

i have a dynamic forces spawn/batman with frank millers signature numbered.... its also cgc ss with Todd's signature. So i know its Frank's signature because it was part of the DF signing event sale, but its in a yellow with green case and i have the COA in a bag with it

That book, signature and label look great!

Oh, I’m so excited!! This SS event is my first submission to CGC. Sent two books - Spawn 228 and Batman 423. I requested a Remarque on the Batman, just to fill in the missing color on the upper-left side of moon behind Batman (around 10 o’clock) . It started driving me crazy once I noticed it. It’s even outlined.  My fingers are crossed SO hard that he grants my request. 🤞🤞🤞 I wonder if that will be a unique Remarque? 🤔

Good luck on your first submission.  And as they say, “welcome to the addiction!”

Is 298 the page with the symbiote covering Eddie Brock's arm? I think it's him looking in the mirror or lifting weights becoming enraged then in a separate smaller panel it's the arm and symbiote. Where exactly did you request the signature if you did window bag it?

Correct!  The panel where you only see Eddie’s silhouette.  I window bagged part of the silhouette and the prior panel of the outside building.  It’s a small window.  Should look fantastic… we’ll see…

I sent him a page not a book. Last page of ASM 299. Nice empty parking space on the upper right section of the page👍

I did the same thing!  I sent in the last page of #299 and #298!  There are a ton of signed #298 and #299.  But the meat and potatoes are only the last pages!  And the art on these last pages are way cooler than the cover art.  Can’t wait to see how it comes back!

Also sent in just the cover for Batman #423, 2nd print.

  6. So, this VOB was a 9.8 which I cracked and sent out for the signing.  Somewhere along the line, the book took damage.  Likely from being mishandled.

I am trying to salvage the book.  My first choice is a re-sub to CGC for press and regrade.  Can it get to a 9.6?  I took pics of the only damage I can see.  What say you guys?

Not a cover, but a full-size wall poster by Todd of a Ninja Turtle. This was issued by Image in the early to mid 90's as part of a series of TMNT posters, though this is the only one with McFarlane art.

I had this poster in the 90’s when I lived with my parents!  Loved it!!!  Don’t know what the hell happened to it.😒
