  1. A bunch of stuff arrived in the mail and I picked up a couple things at an lcs. First, I got my copy of Thor 158 from Lloyd. This is probably my favorite Thor cover. [http://www.phootballrants.com/images/thor158.jpg[/img] I also picked up some more Barry Smith stuff: McFarlane love finally, a sweet Spidey variant
  2. Here is an interesting (ok, you be the judge), counterpart to the "my books were not graded as highly as I thought they'd be" post from earlier. I collect books that have an issue date of my birth month and year, July 1971. I also collect those for my wife and two kids. Well, the only book of note from kids lists that I have picked up so far is Fables #1. Since I am never going to read it and want to make sure it is in as good of condition as possible when I hand it down, I got it slabbed. The book was purchased a little over a month ago for a very reasonable $55. I was able to talk him down to that price because of a couple key flaws. Here is a pic of the spine ding: Here is a pic of the bottom right corner on the back, a more noticeable ding: I thought the grade would be at best a 9.2 and at worst, a 9.0. The rest of the book is flawless, but both of these dings break color. The book got a 9.6. Go figure.
  3. I got some great copper books this week. To fill out my Barry Smith collection, I got these: For my Alan Moore fixation, these crossed my path: And finally, to replace the copy I sold to Dollarbill,
  4. ASM 298 SS CGC 9.8 available here: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=3986275#Post3986275
  5. Ditko SA Blue Beetle available here: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=3986275#Post3986275
  6. Thanks! I think this book and that Hellblazer 27 by Gaiman and McKean are my two favorite single issues of all time.
  7. I picked up a few things this week that were not from this board, strangely enough. This was easier to find than I thought. Amazon had it used and it is very nice with the exception of the sticker. I can't wait to start reading it. I have heard so much about these stories but haven't been able to afford them in singles. Here are the Mad Dog Ward books. I love the story and espeically the covers. I haven't read this story in 15 years. This copy of 312 only has one minor ding in the spine. I'll probably CGC it to go with my other McFarlanes, but it will probably come back 9.2/9.4. This is my favorite of the ASM run covers by Todd. Finally, another July 1971 pickup. The eBay seller refunded me my entire purcahse and postage fee because I explained that this book was not VF as advertised, more like VG. Still, it presents well and will fill the spot until a better copy comes along. Love this cover.
  8. Looking through this thread makes me want to start collecting low grade spideys. Make a note . . must stay away from this thread.
  9. One of only 4 in 9.8. Congratulations!
  10. that one is Bill Robinsons sweet SS 9.8 I had just quoted it brother. though I wish twas mine According to the census, there are only 7 of them right now. The number will probably grow after this convention season, but . . . I'm glad to own one of the seven.
  11. I kind of like the fact that he signed it on Spider-Man - like he put his stamp on the character. For me, this is a grail book. I like it better than 300 b/c its Todd's first on Spidey. My LCS has a Wizard version of 300 which I may have to look seriously at now that I have this one.
  12. And Kudos to Trey Cannon for delivering those awsome books in record time with perfect packaging.
  13. Alas, I could ony afford one CGC SS. He threw in those raw J Scott Campbells AND the raw Ron Frenz signed 242 - a great deal all told.
  14. I just purchased one of these from fellow boardie Trey that is a 9.8 and has Todd's signature in Red ink on spider-man. As soon as I get it scanned, I'll post it.
  15. Thanks guys. I was only going in for the FF, but when Wayne the owner said, "Here's the other box I haven't priced and bagged yet", I knew I was going to be in trouble. I felt like it was an opportunity and he gave me a smokin' deal. I may have to slab and sell the Spotlight. The Luke Cage is my favorite of the bunch, but the FF is from my birth month and year, so it is staying put too.
  16. Dang, I hate to follow those beatutiful keys with my bronze dreck. But it won't stop me. Time Warp Comics in Boulder just purchased an incredible collection silver and bronze marvels. I picked up these: I'm looking for grading help on both over in the "...spare a grade" thread.
  17. I got a few things in this week. No rhyme or reason to them . . . Thanks to fellow boardie Peter! Hoping to find Sienkiewicz at a show sometime . . . Love this cover.
  18. Well, its not silver or gold, but I finally got my copy of Fables #1.
