  1. That's a tough call. The position you seek has long been filled; also, it's VERY gender specific. However, due to all of the interest I do keep applications on file. So, please indulge my asking a few relevant questions: 1. Have you recently competed in a contest involving water and tee shirts? 2. Have you recently performed on stage with a pole or finished with less on than when you started? 3. When asked about joining the Mile High club what is the first thing that pops into your mind? Looking forward to the resume! Dont tell him Dan!
  2. i must be getting senile--i thought it was me who sold it!!! You must be getting mellow in your old age without realising! The artwork on the story Doiby refers to is indeed fantastic. As I dimly recall, not having owned a copy in five years, an intergalactic sweetheart sacrifices herself to save the human race. Does anyone happen to know if it has been reprinted anywhere?
  3. I think you meant Fight 5... Thanks - I got it stuck in my head that it was #6 when I bought the (greatly inferior) Rockford copy! Dont know why, since I do have a #6 anyway! There are higher grade copies out there, but unlike #5, the colors seem to be uniformly strong on all the copies I've seen so far.
  4. Yes siree; could not agree more! Classic Schomburg with all the right "elements" (bound beauty, hypodermic needle containing who knows what, wicked looking blades and gunplay). Fabulous cover. (thumbs u 71 is exceptional. but my very most favoriteist of the post-war cover mm's is: Nice one Billy! That's a tough one in grade! Unfortunately I'm gonna have to find one now that I have the Namoras! Like that's gonna happen any time soon!
  5. Love this one Billy! Checked back a few pages and couldnt see this one:
  6. Love this one Richard! At this level I can only wheel out one "top" Fine cover - but even this one is outshone by some of those you've posted! Mind posting your Fight #6 again please? Pretty please?
  7. Thanks, spillred! I'd been looking for a copy of this book in decent grade for years and one just popped up on my ebay search list in the middle of the night! I snagged that puppy without a second thought. That makes twice in a month that a tough Timely found it's way into my collection for less than guide. Welcome to show and tell! Er, I mean the boards! Does "less than guide" include Xmas presies? Not eggs-actly. You see, a strange thing would occasionally happen when Mr. McShopper (me) got diverted from buying gifts for relatives. This... ...for instance: Ah, accidental shopper syndrome! I have that too!

  9. Thought you'd like it. Isn't Thompson the artist on that fantastic one-shot you have a copy of ... and which I am wondering is the answer to one of BZ's quiz question. You know, the very colorful cover with a frame border of a Native-American on a horse. Could you repost that please? I thought you'd never ask! I have 3 different scans of this book and each of them is flawed by not properly registering one or more colors. I love the cover and the story. I wonder if you are familiar with the british artist Denis McLoughlin? http://www.tonystrading.co.uk/galleries/annuals/buffalobill.htm

Thompson's handling of form reminds me of Curt Swan.
  11. You don't happen to like Detroit Trolleys, do you (I'm such a tease)? I could weep....
  12. No, I have a buddy who collects those and I prefer not to cross paths with him. If I send you a list of the stuff I collect can I be your buddy too?
  13. Maybe Alanna has one. Mine's coloring is crappy too - I used to have the Rockford copy but its colors were no better. I dont recollect ever seeing one with bright reds, but deep orange I have seen. That lovely Rockford #50 of Cheetah's used to be mine long ago - bought straight from Worlds Finest along with #52 and a couple of others in the same number range. Still have the Rangers #21 and Fight #41 I bought at the same time, but sold those Fights to FHMan or his father years ago. He just resold the #52 in his sales thread I believe. I may as well post 'em - two of my favourite FH covers. I have seen deep reds on one or two Rangers #21s. There is also a copy of Fight #41 with a red background out there - it may be a pedigree, cant recall: Ah, nostalgia! Anyone else buy Rockfords from that Worlds Finest catalogue? I think I may still have it somewhere. Must be 15 years ago. Before the internet they were the best mail order company in my eyes!
  14. well, having the dontwannas real bad at work today on this t'giving wednesday, mr. carey's inquiry got me to thinking/internet searching. pulled up mattie and steve's global g.a. ped list from their website. took each ped they listed that wasn't already on my cgc list, and then ran a heritage archive search for that name, thinking that if cgc recognized it, h'tage was bound to have sold at least one over the years. i knew peds like williamsport, new hampshire, cookeville... were advertised as peds when sold on h'tage, but wanted to confirm that cgc labels DID NOT note 'em. i indeed confirmed a lack of cgc designation on ALL BUT ONE obscure ped listed by the boys for their upcoming [yeah, right] book---the SHERWOOD pedigree. the h'tage search turned up a single book ever sold with such a label designation, a police comic, can't recall the number. suddenly, there i sat, not owning a g.a. ped recognized, now or formerly, by cgc. not sure what hives look like, but something weird started breaking out on my arms and face, and especially on my thumbs which are used for, yes, thumbing up g.a. books. didn't much like it, so got back on the 'net. and, in all my seaches, ONE BOOK was available. fortunately, said book has one of the greatest g.a. covers every drawn [cough, cough], and now i own it. thanks go to sacentaur for inspiring me to have the fun of discovering/buying what i think to be a very rare pedigree. Well done Sherlock! Now tell me Holmes, where on the net might I find some tasty Lou Fine Hit covers? There'll be no pipe for you tonight if you cant help! (And dont call me Watson!)
  15. Duh, so when I posted 90 Jumbo thumbnails in one post it only counted as one??!!
  16. Um, anyone out there know of a Bill Everett story featuring a female vampire? Neither Michael nor I can figure it out. Anyway, here is the next best thing! My kind of woman!
