  1. Gorgeous! From the cheetah pedigree. Seriously. Now Mr Bedrock, sir, your collection deserves this copy, but think of the expense! I've warned you about these reckless impulse buys before, which clearly have no investment potential and will make you a laughing stock among your fellow boardies! "He's finally lost it!" they'll say, reminiscing about your once highly regarded collecting acumen! "Must be the Alzheimers.." they will add. Why I can hear them tittering away in the background even now (especially that Gator fellow - and as for Billy Parker, well, I ask you!). As your therapist, and thinking only of your best interests of course, you should sell me something to cushion the blow on your already severely overstretched finances! Something to counteract these mad, reckless urges! A token sale, a minor item, anything will do! A Mystic Comics #2 perhaps, or a modest copy of Fight Comics #5.... Before you end up in an alley somewhere, drunkenly collecting modern age gold cover holograms and the like!
  2. behind my timely run, the fox-thru-july '40 run has been my favorite g.a. pursuit, no doubt. great, great books in there. get after 'em! [just stay away from the ones i'm looking at for upgrades] Pssst! That's it Mr Parker! Distract him with those shabby ol' Foxes so I can slip in and nab all the high grade Fiction House books from under his nose! Heh heh he'll never know... (thumbs u I don't think Cheetah can be distracted. He is just buying everything. Well, good luck to him I say!

  4. CentaurOldGuy Captain Centaur? No wait - I've got it! Alpha Centaur!
  5. Thanks Mike. It is a very cool cover. In fact one of the reasons hockey&comics pmed me about was because of a discussion in a thread a few months back about how cool it was Yes. I remember that thread and thought you had posted your copy. Maybe you just pointed out how cool the cover is and yet is flying under the radar of most collectors. Still, ever since, it's on my radar. Congrats on the pick-up It's because I had posted my copy and Richard commented he'd not seen a copy posted on the boards before!
  6. ...and that MM #3 is a beaut! Well done Richard - two keepers in the can! Undercopy by any chance on the MM?
  7. I was sorely tempted by this one. Lots of confusion on the bidding around this one. Glad it was sorted out and that you got it. Just a beautiful book. Many thanks! I did notice some sort of delay around that time in the auction but didnt realise it was this lot precisely. What was the confusion, do you know?
  8. Just wanted to give my fellow boardies a chance to review my golden age sales thread before it disappears forever! I added some nice books at the end of the thread which some of you may not have noticed.... http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=4254604#Post4254604
  9. a cool book for sure... One of my favorite covers. When I bought my Punch #1 and Dynamic #1, it started me on collecting Cheslers. Very nice, indeed! i love it too. as to the "big 4" chelser #1's, i go with the dynamic at 1, punch at 2, yankee at 3 and scoop bringing up the rear. That cover does bring it up the rear i hear you, but they can't all be hello pal 1.
  10. I daresay I will follow where others have led. Halfway to the #1s: I once owned lesser copies of the Punch and Dynamic first issues and seem to recall that one has much better content than the other, but I cant recall which one is which! And can anyone advise how do the Yankee and Scoop first issues' contents compare? My impression is that the Punch is scarcer than the Dynamic. Top of my Chesler list is now Scoop #2. Anyone able to help me out?
  11. Hard to follow that Planet #4 of Cheetah's but here is my single win from the Mound City auction.
  12. ;;;and by the way these are wonderful pickups! Who is the cover artist?
  13. Fuelman on fire with fuel Okay Gator - know any cross-eyed collectors - hmm, and them moustachios...could it be...
  14. Congratulations Jeff - that is a real beauty. (thumbs u I dropped out way before it got stratospheric - looks like the search continues for the rest of us!
  15. George Tuska Looks like Tuska to me as well - the profiles with the cheekbone lines next to the eyes are a giveaway. (thumbs u His inking of faces is similar to Milton Caniff. Only Pete Morisi and Tuska would draw those two pages and the art is really good at times (especially the ladies ) so it has to be Tuska. The second artist is a generic DC regular (as ZD editor Siegal recruited from there). Perhaps Sy Barry might have been involved? I spend my time looking at the good artists so I am far less useful identifying the average sort of artists. I think Alan is probably right here. Sy Barry was a very strong inker and tended to put his imprimature on the penciller's work - so that second one could just be Gill Kane pencils under Barry's inks.
  16. I didint track this one but it sounds to me a bit like two people going at it blindfold in a cellar. One puts a covering bid of X thousand dollars thinking no-one is going to really test them out. The other doesnt really want to pay over $2000 but thinks they will make sure of it by doing so. Both are probably as shocked by the outcome as we are. This used to happen a lot with Baker romance but no longer. VG issues would sell for $800 or more. The first time it happened, someone who couldnt be around at the end of the auctions (there were about 10 scarce Bakers listed) had put huge covering bids on them all. Other hungry collectors then began to bid....and bid...and bid. Everyone was getting so frustrated they had actually stopped caring what they were bidding. I then got an email from the first bidder telling me that there was no point bidding as his covering bids were so astronomical no-one would reach them! All of this happened about 5 years ago. More recently I've found that 50's horror is pretty much the only remaining area where prices remain consistently strong on ebay - especially for anything above fine.
  17. Ah! If only ... yes, I would love to get those nice painted Romantic Marriage covers but this copy is coverless This is my favourite -cant get much more romantic!
  18. oh, it is not my book...will be in an upcoming clink auction and there's a 25, wow and wow!! indeed Bah! Common junk ... Very nice BTW... Talk about holy grails!
