  1. The only thing that struck me about that announcement is that she's a lesbian Latino. Can't just tick one diversity box now, need at least two adjectives to sell a character.
  2. Glad you had such a good time! That is exactly the sort of knowledge that these boards can bring, glad you found it! And yes, 2016 Alamo City was a bit of a fiasco in terms of organization. Wasn't great from the vendor side either...
  3. At the airport waiting for my flight home. It was a fun show, and on the plus side I was able to get my Hamill autograph and my brother got his from Jeffrey Morgan (though the latter was more difficult than Hamill was for me). Other than the publicized issues with some guests I thought the guest list was great and people responded. On the minus side, sales at the booth declined from 2016, which had declined from 2015. I suspect the ever growing fees for autographs are influencing this sales decline. The celebrity autograph area needs to be expanded considerably. I was expecting the Fire Marshall while waiting for Hamill on Saturday at 2. More after I'm home.
  4. Good first day of sales, hopefully tomorrow is good. So much for Hamill signing all three days, today he apparently only signed for those that bought photo ops (relayed by two different orange shirted crew in the autograph area). I heard the line was still insane. Hoping I'll be able to get him Sunday.
  5. Great, comic heavy show held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Lawrence, Kansas. Hours are 10-5 on Saturday, with an 7-8 pm preview night on Friday. I'll be set up! Home Page
  6. Flying down this evening. Lots to do between now and then...
  7. I'm the same way. I've got a poster I've been working on for years, and I want to get his auto myself (hence my statement about spending a bunch of time in his line).
  8. Someone may be coordinating something private, so you might ask at the CGC booth. Could save you some time.
  9. I wish! I'll take your money, but you would probably be disappointed in the results... I'm sure someone will have that ability, just not me. I'm just going to be getting his autograph on my cast signed poster. I'm anticipating a pretty long line for him...
  10. It is supposed to rain a lot of the weekend, so keep this in mind when you're planning. The parking garage costs a bit, but does keep you dry when you're loading/unloading very expensive paper! There are plenty of places for pickup/dropoff that are protected, so just plan ahead when coordinating with Uber drivers so they know where to go.
  11. Monster's Lair will be at booth 416, right behind the convention exclusives booth and across from Duncanville Bookstore.
  12. We don't have booth numbers yet that I am aware of, and if they have published the vendor map please post a link here so we can all find it.
  13. I shouldn't be bidding, but it is difficult to pass up white paged VF Avengers in the teens for a hair under $100.
  14. Off the top of my head: Duncanville Bookstore Black Cat Comics (bcc here) Rick's Comic Crypt (bubbagump here) There are probably others as well, and hopefully they will chime in.
  15. I'll be at the Monster's Lair Comics booth all weekend (when I am not standing in line for Mark Hamill, that is) so do stop by and say hello if you're at the show. We will have a great selection of books starting at $1 all the way up to quality Silver Age, plenty of keys and a lot of books that have never been to a show before!
  16. with some information. Clearly I haven't had as much time to devote to this thread as I had hoped, and I will be gone this weekend at Dallas Fan Expo. I will leave the thread open until my return for any last minute shoppers, and then close it Monday-ish to settle up with any purchasers. So if you have purchased I will be in touch early next week, and if you haven't bought anything yet you have a few more days. Offers welcome!
  17. Older collectors tend to have a level of disposable income not seen with younger buyers, even if they're serious collectors. If dealers don't see those older collectors at the larger shows, which are more expensive to set up at, then they stop setting up. It's the classic chicken/egg conundrum. Without buyers you don't keep sellers coming to the show, and without sellers the buyers aren't attracted to the show.
  18. I'm hoping for both the sushi dinner and my first Gibsons dinner this year.
  19. I don't know, if the tickets were high enough to cover costs who knows? No vendors, just a big empty room for photos with a few concession stands. Since at least some cosplayers seem to think that cons are all about cosplay, maybe they think this is how cons started. The dealers showed up sometime later as cons evolved.
