  1. My buddy from college and I have a running joke whenever I talk about comics. He isn't a fan, but had a run of Sleepwalker 1-10 for some reason. He always asks if they are worth anything yet (because they have been sub-25 cent bin fodder for decades) and we always laugh. I sent him the news. It's time for me to liquidate my collection. The writing is on the wall, the end is nigh. Irrational exuberance is here! (I'm kidding but not really). Not really . . . Sleepwalker? I must have used it in the birdcage. Soooo.. 9.6? M****** f*****' 9.8, baby - you betcha So just what we all expected then.
  2. I don't know why they bother calling a 1.0 restored for a tiny bit of glue on the spine. Just add it to the (long) list of defects allowable in the grade, basically like a stain, and let it go. There is a point where such a minor issue just doesn't matter.
  3. There is definitely solid logic there, it just bugs me to have to wait the six months in between sending them off and getting them back. Of course I'm not unique in this respect.
  4. I'm not planning to sell them, which is why I was going to save my money and go glacial track. But my books were sent off before the holidays, and my impatience is starting to creep up on me...
  5. I just sent three books to Joey that I wanted to go Economy slow track, but I am considering FTing them. It still chafes me to spend the extra $30, but waiting until June to get my books back is also pretty irritating. I just need to decide which is the lesser evil.
  6. I went on a mini rant, when I did not have all of the facts. Nothing wrong with Marvel asking him for it, or even him shopping it to them. Either way, its a nice piece, and yes I think wearing a costume would have been much cooler. Agreed. Especially since that's 99% of this incarnation of the character's appeal. -J. What does that say for the long term appeal and success of the character?
  7. She has no feet in this cover; unless I'm missing something her legs fade out right below her knees...
  8. I think it's silly they wouldn't give a single copy of this book a 9.8 for because of this tear in over 14 years, even thought it's a well known production defect. Yet, I have seen plenty of books with worse production defects at 9.8 ASM 361 is the most obvious one. Chunks missing from the bottom cover.. NO PROBLEM. 9.8 all.day. Many moderns have the top corners of the spine clipped with a small tear, seen hundreds if not thousands of moderns in 9.8 like this. Sure Wolverine 35 was not a highly submitted book, and the defect is not a common one, but a little research would be nice. Otherwise, what are you paying for? Now that it's a very well known defect, will they plop them in 9.8 slabs en masse? If not, why? I don't see how its any different than any other printing defect that gets a pass. I think it is silly they would give a copy that had the tear(s) a 9.8. I've never been a big fan of giving production defects a pass, because there is nothing wrong with the best graded copy being a 9.6 if that is all the book should get. And, as they learned here, there may be a better copy out there that truly deserves the grade. ASM #361s with gripper marks shouldn't get 9.8s either, because there are 9.8s without them too. So would all the gripper marked books be 9.9 or 10 otherwise? Seems unlikely.
  9. How is it that this thread escaped being rebooted so a list could be kept on the first page?
  10. Guess I'll move my post from the defunct reboot over to the classic.
  11. I'm fine with original if everyone else is. I guess we will see which threads wins out because it gets contributed to by the community.
  12. May as well bump this one while we are at it.
  13. Great pickup for a buck apiece, but if you paid $300 it was probably a bad deal. It all depends on what they cost.
  14. Yes, the "platinum" version (which only has a DCU), as well as the regular DCU version. I don't know off the top of my head if the collectror's edition has one, but it might. Batman #515 also has DCU variants of both covers. It was so very nice of DC to make obscure subsets of books that no one paid attention to at the time, during the era of massive overproduction. It's nice to have something different to chase that isn't 70 years old, and therefore reasonably attainable. Not to mention that these could show up in any shop or set of con boxes, and will typically only cost a couple of bucks when you track them down.
  15. Detective 675 has two versions as well, the regular and premium editions of the black cover both have DCU boxes. My collection is a bit scattered at the moment (across two states) but I'm reasonably certain I have both and can confirm it this weekend. My premium edition has a circular Capital sticker on it for some reason (and I'm bitter about it) but can scan that one in if needed. EDIT: Confirmed it on eBay. Still not sure if the orange version of the cover has a DCU variant or not. Anyone know?
  16. Why would that even make sense? How is delivering to your house safer than having you pick it up in person with ID?
  17. Stumbled across two copies of the Batman #502 at NO today.
  18. In my area everything was open New Years Eve, that was a regular business day and I'd doubt that CGC was closed then either. I think you need to count another business day, IMO.
  19. Recommendation: I would use "DC Bullet" to describe the ones you're calling DC Logo, which could be confusing. Someone mentioned DC bullet to me, I had no idea what they were talking about. THanks for the enlightenment. I've been confused about what one of these looks like as well, a scan would be much appreciated.
  20. No rumors. http://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-COMICS-COLLECTORS-PACK-ANIMANIACS-15-PINKY-B-1-1995-Ser-1-Near-Mint-/301444735496?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item462f81a208 Speaking of...I've been following the Collector Packs for years...the one with BA #12 sold a year or so ago for $8 and change. so you're confirming a BA 12 exists? No. The collector packs of late 1992 and 1993 were just regular copies. You've built and shattered my dreams, but I was able to add Animaniacs 16 and Batman Adventures 21, so thank you. I'm quite unshattered. As someone who is trying to collect these I'm just fine not having to chase a BA #12 variant.
  21. Considering that Quesada seems to really like Squirrel Girl, and that even if there was some higher-up that liked Superpro, Marvel would probably need the NFL's permission to do anything with him, I think it's safe to say that nothing significant will happen with any of the books, *unless* Marvel and the NFL announce some plans for a project without giving any details. Then speculators will be out in force. The sad thing is that even this bit of posting about NFL Super-pro has probably led at least a few speculators to pick it up just in case.
  22. Sought after, maybe, but I'm not sure that these should be classed as keys.
  23. I love Beta Ray and Ti Asha Ra but Gunn has stated that Beta Ray is not in the collector's collection in Knowhere so I am not sure why he's trending higher. Does everything have to be about a movie? Can't a good book get some heat for being a good book? I think it can, but when talking about overprinted books from 25 years ago, its hard to think suddenly a new generation will suddenly think NFL All-pro is a great read and cause a flurry of new buyers. I agree on NFL All-pro and the like, but this is a classic that deserves the love. It's NFL Super-Pro. I knew that was wrong when I quoted it, but I couldn't remember either so I went with it...

I agree on NFL All-pro and the like, but this is a classic that deserves the love. I agree, but you would need a 'sudden' influx of interest all at the same time (to noticeably affect the price), when its relatively easy to think that most people who love that story line already own a copy. Without a specific impetus to drive demand at a single point in time, it would be tough (not impossible) to get 'heat'. Recently, that specific 'impetus' has generally been in TV or movies. We're having our own little agreement festival this morning. My guess would be trying to buy ahead of an announcement of a TV/movie appearance.
