  1. As long as it's cool with you is what really matters. (thumbs u +1 My #1 is a 3.0 (granted, it is a blue label) and my #2 is currently a 2.5 with amateur restoration. I still love the book even with the minor color touch that I can't really find but apparently (sorry, bad pun) is there. If you like the book then the color of the label shouldn't bother you too much. As much as I would like to swim in the deep end of the pool and buy a 9.2 copy of #1 that just isn't going to happen barring a major miracle or two. So I am quite happy with lower grade books with super eye appeal for the low numbers. They take a bit of work to find sometimes, but that is a lot of the fun of collecting anyway. How about a picture or scan of your #1? You just can't have too many pictures in these threads!
  2. Sweet! I almost sent my copy in for the Masters II signing to get the same treatment, but sent my #50 instead. Nice book!
  3. I thought it did too! I do love your copy of #4, it is nicer than my slabbed 5.0. I feel like I am posting here a lot lately, but I picked up another nice round of books from the Clink exchange and then one more in the auction last night. The Strange Tales books have always been high on my list, particularly the #97 (love the PQ too) with the May and Ben prototypes. (I just grabbed the Clink scans, so sorry they are a bit wonky.) I got the TOS #30 in the auction last night for what I felt was a good price. My wife has been very patient with me this month, so many nice books got listed I think I spent my first 6 months worth of comic budget just in January!
  4. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I always heard that that deal was why Hulk had to get cancelled after #6 so that Marvel could launch Amazing Spider-man. They had only so many titles they could do, and they wanted to get a title for Spidey so bad they had to drop Incredible Hulk. Is that how that happened, or have I been clinging to bad information for 25 years (which wouldn't be the first time, of course...)?
  5. Here is my first (and probably only) win from the January Clink auction. I also went after the #4 but didn't bid as high as I probably should have because I really wanted the #5 and couldn't really afford them both. Did any boardies win the #4?
  6. The purple does bug me a little, but it is a nice copy. It's currently the only restored #24 on the census, so at least I have a rare book!
  7. Here are my latest pickups. The TOS was a Christmas present from my brother, and the two TTAs were self-submissions (with a press from Joeypost). I'm really happy with the #12, but was bummed with the PLOD on the #24 (that book actually got through the pre-screen as Universal, and only post-grading did it switch to purple). I may look at having the resto removed on the #24 since it is pro work.
  8. That's a shame. I love interior signatures in SS labels. You know the book is signed, you know it is legit, and you don't have to mar a cover with the signature if you don't want to. There are plenty of books I'd like signed but the cover art won't lend itself well to a signature. Interior signatures are the way to go.
  9. Great presenting copy for the grade +1 A very pretty book!
  10. Nice one JM! Here is my latest TOS aquisition, and I know I overpaid for it so if I bought if from a boardie please don't gloat too much. I just couldn't pass up the WHITE pages. In hand it looks like a 9.0 but it has a munched lower back corner that I could give a about because the front is so danged pretty.
  11. Nice one! I have always loved that cover, thanks for sharing and WTTB!
  12. There tends to be enough to choose from that if you are a PQ snob you can wait for an OW-W or White example to come along.
  13. Beautiful book! If I hadn't spent all my comic budget for the year (and then some) I would have given some of those a look.
  14. That #128 looks a whole lot better than a mere 9.4! Nice books!
  15. It's about time that this thread got a bump, and what a gorgeous book to do it with! Congrats!
  16. Sold a few books to Marc, and he paid quickly and was easy to work with. I'd gladly do business with him again!
  17. +1 I don't mind books signed on the front cover, but I am a much bigger fan of first page signatures, particularly on books like these.
  18. This is a great resource, thanks! When did CGC stop putting interior defects on blue labels, and did they stop putting ANY defects on the blue label or do some still get listed?
  19. Damn! Another SICK early spidey! I've always rather get 3,4, 5 later spideys instead of spending it all on 1 early issue but seeing these monsters you guys keep posting is making me change my thinking. Since those beauties are making me green with envy, I'm gonna have to switch up my strategy and get one! Hopefully!!! I always had the opposite strategy, in that I would rather buy 1 nice VF range early Spidey instead of a handful of later books. To each his own, and both strategies have merit. I ended up finishing up my run by chasing all the books between 50-85 or so, and those were books that I always had price resistance for because values jumped in the years I was out of collecting and got out of line with what I was used to paying. Now I've gotten re-used to prices and have snagged most of them, but I have several I still need to upgrade.
